Funny story- my late grandfather had a beautiful yard. He had Fescue grass and used a reel style mower to cut it twice a week. Said the rotary mowers chewed the grass tips instead of cutting them neatly and burned the grass! He used a combination of Iron Nitrate And Ammonium Sulfate he hand mixed for fertilizer that turned the grass dark green when sprayed on! Everybody swore he painted the lawn! People would come around all the time to inspect his grass to see if it was REAL!

We had a neighbor when I was a kid who had same type of lawn as your grandfather. Cut it the same way. Everyone in the neighborhood that it was fake! LOL

I like the term you use for the brown grass "dormant". First time I'm hearing it. When I first witnessed my lawn turn all brown in the dry season I thought my fairly new lawn grass had died lol. Now I realise that the grass springs back and turns back green once the rains begin to fall. Unfortunately I live in a really drought prone area so most of the year my grass is dry. I also think I might need to seed my lawn somewhat, another thing I just learnt of thanks to listening to you. Thanks for all the advice and tips you give.

Rye grass. We use it here in Texas. In the Winter it grows and it's a beautiful deep green and in the summer it goes dormant and then you have Johnson grass or whatever youa6 have that "wakes up" in Springn :) I love rye grass. You just spread the grass seeds and wait for next winter.
