I would be interested in knowing what some of the properties look like one year after you have done the lawn work. I hope the people who benefited from your generous gifts kept their properties in a better state of up-keep!
@bobbij303011 ай бұрын
Fill... that plant is a Mullein Verbascum and most people consider it a weed. It grows very tall and usually has a single floral spike, which is usually yellow. I say 'usually consider it a weed' because in 'naturalized gardens' those are planted for pollinators, it's most beneficial and draws bees, butterflies and even bats.
@klikklakis9 ай бұрын
The difference between flowers and weeds is very subjective. To me anything that doesn't get mowed is a weed unless it is labeled before hand. Another great job.
@trinamcgarvey-vw7ke11 ай бұрын
Mullein. Many consider it an herbal plant, good for healing. Others consider it a weed. Good call to leave it. Wonderful job on the property!

14:16 ok, the first one is a wild sweet William or soapwort. The second is mullein, I bought mine but it also grows wild. It has a lot of medicinal properties, in Michigan it’s a native plant, others see it as a weed. Eye in the beholder of both plants.

The fuzzy, green plant at 13:40 looks like a mullein plant. Some people consider it a weed, others say it's an herb. It has been used for years for its medicinal benefits.
@darinvierth167911 ай бұрын
Mullein. I've always considered it to be a weed(25 years as a lawn care tech). However, you can purchase the seeds for it online and plant it like a perennial. Side note: the definition of a "weed" is "any plant growing in an undesired location." So a tree could be considered a weed.
@sarahktm11 ай бұрын
Exactly! Depends on if you want it growing there. Maybe she's an herbalist and knows mullein is high in value for anything lung related and to make earache oil. Wonderful plant friend. Likely seeded itself there though. Biennial not perennial. ❤
@christinashawgo651011 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ll grow Mullein on purpose. The flowers are used in olive oil with some garlic as an anti-septic for ear infection. The leaves are used in teas, To help control mucus in the lungs. It can also be inhaled as a smoke. Herbalist will grow these in their gardens.
@flyingeaglewoman868211 ай бұрын
Mullein is very invasive, once it starts it send runners everywhere. I’ve dealt with it on a property, best to pull out of the ground and get the root plus its runners.

I,m glad to see you get (down and dirty) in this one .A lot of yard men won't clean out flower beds,they just weed whack everything green in sight . They could used some weed and feed on this lawn too,maybe after they get settled in a bit. Really good work in the nick of time.

"Common mullein is a biennial weed. In the first year, the plant grows a basal rosette of furry leaves. And in the second year, the weed develops a tall stem. Common mullein flowers from June to September. With small yellow flowers clustering in a large spike at the top of the stem."
@voodooqueen32211 ай бұрын
Mullein, medicinal herb, good for lung health, stalk grows tall with yellow flowers that is used as an eye wash with antibacterial properties. Leaves were used as TP back in the 1800s 😅.
