Hey congrats to your Bro! I just recently passed my CCNA composite exam last May. My college offers CCNA subjects as part of our Electronics Engineering curriculum so I reviewed my notes, handouts, solved all labs and packet tracer - skills integration challenge on my Netacad, went to a 5-day CCNA bootcamp and watched online tutorial vids (NetworKing and CBTnuggets). I even saved my allowances and paid for the CCNA exam myself in order to scare myself into studying really hard and it was super effective.

To those asking, I used Neil Anderson's CCNA course/labs, and AlphaPrep practice exams. Also made tons of flashcards with a program called 'Anki' for review. Basically Anki to remember factual/theoretical stuff, and then plenty of labbing to develop practical skills.

Passed my ICND1 exam back in April, shortly after I found out I had a tumor in my knee. A biopsy later they told me it was cancer. Currently waiting for a surgery where they are going to cut out a good chuck of my tibia. Wont be able to walk for 6 months or maybe longer. Still scheduled my ICND2 exam for Oct. I'll be so happy when I pass I've wanted it since late 2016.

I took my CCENT exam after a surgery on my back. after the surgery is the best time to sit and learn, cause nobody even wants you to do something. I wish you to be healthy again soon. Use your time and achieve your goals.

So I moved my date up to yesterday 9/17/18 Big change vs oct 19. Passed with 856 out of 1000. DAMN that thing was hard, just like overyone else I wasn't sure if I passed until I submitted. Surgery is the 28th. I already scheduled my MCSA server 2016 first exam. Just trying to ensure I'll have no issues getting a job when moving to a larger area

@@connykomen4237 just started walking. Went on medical leave for like 5 months, got my MCSA 2016, talked to the MSP I was working for about more money to come back. They wouldn't do it so I quit. I then got my MCSE. I got crazy call backs for interviews, landed a job at 20k more than the msp hired me at. I'm way happier and the leg should be good. I took my ICND2 this morning...and passed. I gotta say that I watched this video about two weeks ago and it gave me LOT of motivation at the time and pushed me for like a week. I watched it again a week later and it gave me another push. My favorite study resources: For the ICND1 I used Todd Lammle's Complete Study guide. I read every page and make sure I knew why the answers were what they were in his end of section quizzes. I went all the way through Chris Bryant's materials as a review afterwards. For the ICND2 as far as videos went I bought Neil Anderson's full course and went through all the ICND2 topics I retook all end of section quizzes in Todd's book. I bought Chris Bryant's ICND2 exam pack with 4 practice tests. That was a shocker when I got about a 55% on the first go round. I then bought the Boson ExSim-max Exams for ICND2...whoas those were freaking hard. I also got about a 55% on those. I went back and figured out why I got questions wrong or why I got questions right on iffy questions. I think that was absolutely my biggest tools. The last nights I went back to Neil Anderson's courses and reviewed QoS, SNMP, SPAN, PPP, Multipoint PPP, HSRP, Wide area networks, and SDNs. I event touched on EIGRP a bit. Before bed last night, In honor of you, Network Chuck I started the hobbit. I only last four minutes before I couldn't keep my eyes open and passed out.. thanks for the inspiration and the entertaining videos. You rock like Van Halen!!!!

The key to passing the CCNA R/S is to do the labs. Study the books and videos, but Packet Tracer, GNS3 and the other lab envrionments will be critical and crucial to your success. You have to be able to picture everything in your head and connect the picture to your hands to movement of your hands performing the steps to truly understand what is going on. Lab when you can, as much as you can, as often as you can, wherever you can.

I failed my 220-901 by 20 pts today and felt like throwing up afterwards since I was so upset with myself for scheduling too early, haha. No worries though, next week I will pass it. Ahhhhhhhh re-watching this video on my 1st full day as a CCNA certified pro. Those of you still taking it I'd say. Focus on your routing protocols. Be ready to use show commands to diagnose EIGRP issues. I lost a lot of time trying to do guesswork and scanning thru good ol show run lol. Passed my ICND2 Jan 22 2020. I'm 63 years old. Started on CCNA about a year ago and messed around till Sept 2019 passed CCENT. Kept sort of working on the ICND2 until Dec 2019 then I focused. Jan 22 I went into 22 days of 6+ hours a day. My test I didn't have any configuring. Had to troubleshoot OSPF and EIGRP Sim. I used Bosen for my Sims they were spot on for practice. The questions were pretty different from Bosen. The biggest thing with the test is you have to move through it fast. I had 30 minutes left and 26 questions to go. You have to push through and answer the questions. The sims, I focused on what the question was asking and eliminated answers with sh ip int br, sh run, sh ip ospf int etc. Good luck.

Great info Chuck. I have enjoyed your videos. Prior to getting into the IT world, I was in the Intel world while I was on the service. I served in the Army, 11yrs 9 months of Active Duty (JAN00-NOV11) honorable service. I transitioned to the Army Reserves with the same Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 35S Signals Intelligence. We have a Cyber Intel MOS, and I always enjoyed seeing what those Soldiers were doing in the IT field (basically cybersecurity), it looked fun and I have always been good with computers, So I decided to jump into the IT world when I finished my Active Duty time. My civilian job is and has been as an IT Support Specialist (basically multi-purpose desktop support) since 2014. I've been following you're and several other KZbinrs (e.g., Du’An Lightfoot, David Bombal, Keith Bogart at INE, and Jeremy Cioara with CBT Nuggets). They have helped me as I prepare to take my ICND1 exam next month and CompTIA's Sec+ in November. I have read and re-read the Cisco Official Cert guide CCENT/CCNA ICND1 for the 100-105 exam. It was interesting to hear your brothers take on his experience with both the ICND1 & ICND 2 exams. I have been prepping for 4 months for the ICND1. A co-worker and I are working toward getting the CCNA R&S so that we can expand from our current roles. As far as labs go, with a wife and three kids funds are tight, So I have had to rely on Packet Tracer, the Cisco Learning Network & My NetAcad, which are all good training material. I am still learning GNS3. I have been able to secure some old equipment from my employer, two HP ProCurve 1810G 24-port switches, a Cisco RV042G router and a Windows 7 Pro HP Compaq 6200 SFF that wiped then did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro (v1803). All towards putting together a very basic home lab. Anything I can get my hands on just to have something physical to mess with even if it is not straight Cisco hardware. I enjoy your videos because you are passionate about what you do, they show me that it’s possible to progress in this field as long as you are willing to put in the work. Keep pounding out the videos and congrats on the new position with CBT Nuggets. Please do not stop with your Network Chuck Channel though!

Just took the ICND2 yesterday and passed. I can definitely say focus on WAN, WAN, WAN technologies. Also one thing to remember is to look for what DOESN'T work. There are a lot of questions that want you to match certain things. If you focus on what you know ISN'T correct it leaves you with fewer variables for ones you aren't sure of. You can do it, just stay calm and carry on!

4:08 I would disagree slightly and I would use David Bombals Udemy Lab Course as an example. This course was amazing because David only explains concepts after inviting you to have a go at the lab first without any explanation. You then watch the following videos if you struggle with the Lab. This can save you a lot of time in Lab building because you can jump straight into an OSPF or EIGRP lab and have the bare bones already set up.

I originally passed my CCNA in 2010, let it lapse, recertified in 2014, and since then I’ve gotten a CCNP Security, VMWare VCP6.5-NV, MCSA Sever 2016, CISSP, PMP, and passed the written CCIE Security exam, will probably never get around to the lab exam, especially since I only have 3 months left. As much as I (think) I know, it’s not enough. I’ve never programmed anything in my life aside from a Cisco device (if that counts), but I’ve recently started learning Python, and Ansible. The transition of infrastructure engineers to “DevOps” engineers is real and at this point, unavoidable. My goal is to become a network/security automation engineer for an ISP or MSP. I’ve been doing the Project Manager life for 4 years now and have to say, I don’t like it.

There are 2 things I tell people. Learn what the requirements are for that "next" job you want. Study them. Build your knowledge up so that you can intelligently speak on them when say asked about them in an interview. Next comes the harder and more controversial part. Figure out how to lie about it. Review those new job postings and see where you can take some of those requirements, that you now know and understand, and sprinkle that into your current work experience. This is very tricky. You absolutely must know these things because you are going to be quizzed on it during an interview. There is a very fine line between working in information you know vs what you do on a daily basis at work. The reason this is important and I recommend this is because recruiters, and often hiring managers even, often do nothing but key word searches on resumes they choose to look at. So your only goal now is to get them to even take a look at your name and call you. It is up to you to both secure and interview and land the job by speaking knowledgeably about what you have claimed to do on your resume. You dont need to prove you know everything. Often just that you understand and can figure it out and or work your way through a problem. This method has not failed me in 20 years now. It is something I wish I figured out sooner.

Congrats to Cameron for passing the ICND2. Fear not on applying for jobs your under-qualified for. Keep studying and as long as the employer knows that you understand networking, then you have a shot. Remember, most job applicants have experience, but no certs. So, use your cert as experience. I'm not just saying this, but I've been way under-qualified for my last three jobs on paper. In order for my climb the ladder, I've had to change jobs.

Companies want EXPERIENCE. But how can we get one if we can't get a job in the first place - THAT WAS SPOT ON. Uhg, can't tell you how many times I have experienced being turned down for that same reason. Maybe it's just about a matter of finding the right company. Maybe start with relatively small company? Don't be too ambitious trying to get a high-paying position right away? I don't know...

As for getting experience... if you are in the it field (as he mentioned he is a tech) he already has his foot in the door... so in a situation like this I would recommend really getting n the good side of the network dept and see if you can shadow them.. you can sacrifice a little and either stay late for when they do work after hours see what is really done in the real world.. this does count as experience on a resume since you can now say you've done this or that from a "real world perspective" - and you never know.. they might offer you a position if it comes available ... just my opinion

Congratulations Cameron, actually i got my CCENT right after Cameron and I was planing to take the exam in september but I think I need to review INE course but at high speed. Keith Bogart is a wonderful trainer but you need to double the video speed. I started learning ICND2 with David Bombal then Pearson Trainings Course and now I am gonna go for INE. Besides I read the book before but I forgot lots of details inside it. What makes me sad is, after learning too much and getting the CCNA Certificate, if you wanna apply for a job, they want you to have 5 years of experience which is not fare. Cameron wants to continue with CCNA collaboration, could you please explain why? I was thinking of CCNA Security as next.

Yo, I got my CCNA 2months ago but after going to 4-5 interviews I fee like everybody tries to underestimate the fact that I got the cert and I'm pushing to study Linux and Python.. what not.. and focuses on the lack of experience. I'm not in USA and damn.. it ain't easy to find a job here as well. I'd very much appreciate if you make a video on "after CCNA experience and getting a job" with like interview tips or something, just to get you on the right track and the right mood to get it going. Sometimes It's hard to not get discouraged although I know that the right job will come. I work in a call center right now, but after getting the CCNA they trying to offer me salary the same if not a bit lower than the one I'm getting now.. do y'all think that's normal .. even if applyin for a junior position?

I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding and ego tripping around Cisco exams, because the name is so esteemed. I had a colleague who wanted to become a sysadmin so he was planning for the CCNA, but couldn’t do basic tasks like install a printer. Let me reiterate for all newcomers. Sysadmins don’t deal with network infrastructure! Unless you’re in a very small jack of all trades MSP, network gear is usually handled by a different company. You need to know some basic networking, but that’s it. Don’t think that taking ONE subject makes you some kind of IT god who knows everything. All CCNA teaches is pure networking. That’s it. I’ve seen lot of snobs who don’t know group policy boast about their CCNA. Congratulations, you know how rapid spanning tree works. You don’t see orthodontists running their mouth tryin to be kidney specialists, do you?

Are there simulations questions related to configuring the network devices/routing protocols in CCNA 200-125? I read somewhere there are only troubleshooting questions in which you have to run the correct show commands to answer the question. Is it true?

Congrats. Got my CCNA July 2018 (1st try, both ICND1 & 2) - the simulation troubleshooting is a must pass, these carry the most weight in the exam - I got 2 sims ea (combination ACL, OSPF, EIGRP) for the CCENT and CCNA . 5 months of stressful study/practice. While taking breaks, I would watch WW1 and 2 movies excerpt just to keep the adrenaline pumping. Next goal is CCNP-security (fingers crossed). Chuck/Cameron, Which state are you getting 60k pre-CCNA?

You can make 60k/yr salary doing "helpdesk" (well helpdesk, plus light SysAdmin work) here in Denver *if* you are with the right company (like a software company)!
