Hope you all enjoyed the video! ☺️ Correction to my statement: I should have explained better, 30 fps burst mode does not shoot with an actual mechanical shutter, rather a new hybrid electronic shutter that reads out as fast as a mechanical shutter, so in almost all situations you get the same effect without rolling shutter, etc.

BTW 5:10 the A1 is 10fps in "mechanical" shutter.... not 30 Also, 30 fps shooting is possible in JPEG or HEIF modes NO RAW. You need to buy the A1 with all the support for the 3rd party lens Jeremy. It's a beast of a camera. I sold my A1 after it kept locking up and the nipple lock button got some grit in it and gets stuck... ........bought the Canon R3 with the amazing auto focus and far better than the Sony in my use. .... i think Sony fixed the lock up issue with a patch but no updates since....crickets.

The a1 shoots 30 fps compressed raw and 20 uncompressed raw in electronic shutter

I have an A1 and I think you may not have had the AF settings set up, I also have that same lens. Its the perfect match :)

I set up the AF settings to my liking, and in multiple different ways, so that wasn't the problem. It wasn't bad, just overrated in my opinion, but I also have a high standard!

It looks like you need some more time with the A1. For me, it rarely misses or disappoints, not even in low contrast, noisy back or foreground situations. But you need to know when and how to focus in which mode and also where to focus on on your subject. Sometimes it's also better when DMF is activated or Eye-AF is off. It's nothing very complicated or complex, but it takes some sessions before you really know and understand how the AF is working or let's say where it's not working good enough.

Agree 100% - once you have the camera set up correctly - it does not miss shots. 35% hit rate is crazy for this camera.

Situations like this is where Sony's "AF Assist" feature would come in handy. Unfortunately, it's not available on the A1. Autofocus assist is available on the A7IV, A7RV, FX30 and FX3 and allows you to manually adjust the lens focus ring while shooting in autofocus. Once the new focus target is acquired, and you stop adjusting the ring, the autofocus kicks back in and latches on to the new target. Have you ever used it on any of the other Sony models?

Most definitely I totally agree! That would be a game changer for this camera. I don't understand why Sony hasn't just done a simple firmware update to give that functionality where as clearly they have done it with newer models. I haven't used AF Assist on other Sony models, but I have on other cameras and it's very helpful!

Mountain blue birds look gorgeous ! Love the photos ! I wish sony would allow animal/bird eye detection for video recording on the Sony A7S3 sounds like a problem with other models !

I have seen both your videos of the A1, and it's one of the best cameras out there! I would love if you could get the chance to try canon r5 and compare those two! If I could choose I would put an A1 in a canon body (or Nikon). But I can't describe the body of Sony, I have held so many in my hands but none of them is comfortable. I dont know why, if they are to small or to plastic and slippery. But thats just my opinion on the body, the tech is world class! (But I will choose Canon over Sony for the feeling of the camera in my hand)

It's pretty amazing! I would love to compare it with the R5 sometime, I wish I could get my hands on that but haven't been able to at the moment. I agree with your uncomfortability with the body, it's difficult for me to describe too but it feels just too cramped and not "grippy" enough. The functionality is no doubt phenomenal though!
