This video spoke straight to my most inner self. I was getting back into the game around this time and this Hero deck is the one that made me sell my soul. I also remember the person who ran the Piper deck Gabriel Perez also had a youtube channel that focused mostly on rulings and competitive mindset at live events. My decade old memories remember it as actually really good and approachable content for the time. I never thought I would get to talk to anyone about these decks or event, let alone 2 youtubers make a video all about it (and 1 of them was even a yugituber I watched from that era too). That Skill Drain Hero deck is literally in my fucking DNA and I remember trading a Dante I pulled with my regional packs for most of the Piper deck too. Not really sure why I'm typing this, but you dug up old memories and I can no longer sit silent.

It’s been a while since I heard that term. The sunk cost fallacy. What cost are you referring to? Oh, so you’re a JD viewer. That video was good but I don’t see the sunken cost. Is it time? Huh, it’s weird talking about time in this case. The sunk cost fallacy only accounts for decision making, and time really doesn’t belong there. I think this fallacy is the wrong term to use. There are no economic decisions when playing a game. Also, I wouldn’t judge the success of anything such as YuGiOh on one factor.

Gouki is just another flavor of Dark warrior which, by itself is just another flavor of DAD and DAD, depending how you look at it, could be just plant synchro with less plants and more darks but if those dark monsters are dragons then you have dragon link which is to say, the game has always been defined by decks that can easily turbo out their big monsters without being stunned and when there is no deck that can do that you get stun formats

@@Rutrakpm I would disagree with your assertion that without these degenerate combo/chaos decks that we get "stun formats." The "Eternal Format" was largely defined by mid-range decks with a combo deck f"cking it up every now and again until the banlist put them in their place. And formats with less combo and more control are always more fun. Combo decks end the game by turn 3, control decks actually have longevity and let the format breathe.

@@Rutrakpm And I would say Chaos is the precursor to DAD which was the precursor to Dragon combo which was the precursor to Chaos Drag which was the precursor to Dragon Ruler which was the precursor to Pendulum Guardragon which was the precursor to Chaos Thunder Dragon combo which was the precursor to Dragon Link. Really every combo deck that ruins the format came from Chaos & DAD with the occasional exception ala handloop which was the precursor to Wind-Up which was the precursor to Mermail who was the precursor to that time Trishula Hand Loop was a deck.

The one thing that I liked about march 2012 format was running Windup decks that sided into Dino Rabbit or Inzektor that sided into Rabbit/WU. But that just shows how stupid those 3 decks were.

I think he didn't forget he just chose not to negate duality in case there was something else, that's why MBT waited a turn to be able to skill drain before using dark hole.

In the darkest moment in Yugioh history: Heroes never give up and always wins. JUDAI/JADEN WAS RIGHT! HEROES CAN DO ANYTHING! Some guy pull a fucking Destiny Draw and drew a Bubbleman with no cards in their hand or field and WON. Nova Master is awesome MBT! IT'S NOT BAD! You draw a card, it works against Pendulums in the future.

This is an old comment, so you probably don't still care, but Skill Drain negates the effects (and not costs) of face-up monsters on the field, but still allows effects to be activated. When you activate Stardust Dragon, you tribute it for cost. Then you negate, and if you do, then you destroy. So, since you can activate under skill drain, you're able to pay the cost of tributing. Then, since Stardust Dragon is no longer on the field (since it's in the GY) it's no longer affected by Skill Drain.
