Fun Fact: Death is the oldest of the four horsemen and was one of the first Nephilium to came into being. He is the one who cut off Wars arm (his big metal gauntlet) and was the strongest of the neiphilium. Reason why he uses random weapons and armor is because it is an unction mission, so that is why he isn't lock with a certain build.

And with that camera angle, I probably would get annoyed really quickly haha. Really like those transition screens where you answer your own questions, and use the 'dun dun'. And for sure sooooo much better to show a meme of someone destroying a laptop, instead of you breaking a controller🤣 That was quite a rant during Darksiders 3, super cool you left it in. Even with your opinion changing a bit. But totally agree, why they strayed so much from the first two games...we'll never know. Super funny at the end there, DS2 is the GOAT🤣 Really great vid Studdy! Yeah, Darksiders 3, just like Fury in the context of the horsemen, is a bit of the red headed stepchild of the franchise. I think there's fundamentally a few reasons why the game just didn't click with many players: 1: It's the only Darksiders game that doesn't really offer a power fantasy. The balancing and difficulty are such that the game offers a consistently high degree of challenge, but it also makes Fury as a protagonist feel very weak when compared to the other horsemen. With Fury, every encounter is a struggle, which just doesn't feel appropriate, considering the horsemen are supposed to be the most feared and powerful enforcers of the Council. The lack of finisher attacks isn't helpful either, but what really hurts is that there's no fights where you just get to shred through a bunch of low tier enemies with relative ease because you're a horseman and they're just a few random-ass revenants or demons, simply because even low tier enemies can shred you quickly if you slip up. 2: In a simular vein, them moving from hack&slash over to soulslike is a very jarring transition. So jarring in fact, that they retroactively added an option to have "classic" combat instead of the default, which is supposed to emulate the combat of previous titles a bit more by letting you dodge cancel out of animations. 3: While Fury's character growth is actually quite satisfying retroactively, it makes the first half of the game where she yet has to grow rather painful because she's being so aggressively rude and abrasive and you end up cringing whenever she pointlessly threatens someone or asserts her superiority. It's not necessarily something we would expect out of a Darksiders game since both Death and War don't really show that much growth - they are never truly in the wrong and it's much more about the world itself than about the characters. So you go in thinking you might be stuck with a horrible asshole of a character for the entire game. I don't think Fury has any genuinely redeeming character qualities until you get to the Lust fight and she's confronted with a vision of her own unreasonable desires that she actually learns a bit of basic self-awareness and starts working on herself. It's unsurprising that a lot of players just decided the game wasn't for them before it actually starts getting good.

Tbf with 3 what happened was that it was 1 first released during the hight of everyone trying a Souls-like and not really getting quite there. I agree that Fury should’ve been a bit quicker and be more of an AOE fighter with her whip but we also gotta remember that between 2 and 3 THQ had shut down and then came back so 3 was like a game they made trying to go for mass appeal so they could stay afloat and not sink again, thankfully it seems they learnt through that for Genesis and since they sent out a Teaser maybe 4 with Strife is gonna be a bit more like 2 considering he’s not as burly as War XD

Honestly this is a series that I will always love and that I hope will continue to have at least one more game (because I want a full game with just strife 😘). A "final" game where you can swap between all four against the council would be great, but I'll settle with just one more with Strife. One thing I do like though, is how these games actually kind of designed around the fighting styles of each horseman. DS1 being a hack and slash fits War very well. DS2 being more of a RPG with stylized combat really does fit Death's style. And DS3 being more souls like really does fit Fury in a way (she mainly focuses on bosses, but she's not too hot-headed as to avoid upgrades and changing styles). I thought that that was something that was pretty cool. ^^ Here's hoping for another game in the future. 🤞. Can't wait to do a first-person shooter with Strife. XD

@Lordrockerkiller6 ай бұрын
If you are still wondering about why you have such a difficult time with Darksiders 1 and 2 with crashes is because those two were made on a custom game engine with havok lighting, and yeah they still work on modern systems bc ps3 is still the bones of modern psn, but that lighting system really doesn't agree nowadays with modern OS's or PSN, so that is why Genesis and 3 are not glitch heavy as 1 and 2 and why the pausing worked on Darksiders 1, because you are techninally refreshing the lighting in the cutscene since it is done in engine and isn't pre-rendered
@Lordrockerkiller6 ай бұрын
And if you are still wondering why they leaned so hard into making it like a souls game, a little unkown indie company called Fromsoft released a fairly underrated and unkown game at the time called Dark Souls 3 just 2 years before Darksiders 3.
@icequeen522 ай бұрын
Gotta say, I'm genuinely so sick of people dumping on Darksiders 3. It's my favourite game in the series by far, and the only complaints I really hear people talking about essentially boil down to "it's different from the others", and stuff that's a serious skill issue. I feel like there's a large trend of reviewers of games especially, where they'll set expectations of the type of game they expect something to be, and when it doesn't fit that mould exactly, they dismiss it as terrible. That's exactly what happened with the RPG trilogy in Assassin's Creed. They weren't fully stealth focused games, so people hated them despite how much they actually did well. It's okay if you don't like a certain style of game, but to criticise a game for not being exactly the style you expected isn't a problem with the game itself, it's a problem with your expectations. I think people need to be more willing to enjoy something for what it is, rather than what they expect it to be

i say you're pretty accurate with the evaluations. Genesis: the gameplay is amazing and the story is decent. the development system is pretty damn solid and the character swapping and interactions (gameplay and story wise) is top notch. the fcking CAMERA THO. that thing wrecks you more often than anything else, ESPECIALLY with all the platforming you have to do. DS1: it was very much a GoW/DMC inspired game. of which there was quite a few at the time (another major one was Prototype, which if you havent done, 1 and 2 are amazing games) gameplay is rock solid for a first of series game, and you FELT strong. like even at his weakest, War felt like a brick wall combined with a piledriver. sure you could get your shit wrecked but typically it felt super empowering. and the upgrade system, while bare bones for the most part, was pretty damn solid. even if you pretty much default to having the 4 horsemen enchantments on (war on chaos eater, death on scythe and fury on fist) DS2: is SUCH A GOOD GOD DAMN GAME!!!! yes it's kinda mired in DLC locked content (the OG release had the crucible locked behind DLC paywall and such) but you go back and look at the promo material, THEY WENT FCKING HARD ON THAT SHIT. and the gear system, holy fcking hell. yeah some level based shenanigans happen, but by the end you can have life steal, wrath steal and insane damage on your scythes and just.... end everything. by the end you feel like a force of fcking nature as Death should be. DS3: ..... yeah... this was the dissapointing one of the set. it REALLY leaned in on darksouls/metroidvania stuff as that was "popular" at the time i guess. my main issue with it is, Fury never feels as strong as she should. yes she feels powerful against lesser enemies and her super form looks and feels immense but.... generally.... she feels much weaker than her brothers. she is meant to be the arcane mage of the group, using her whip to physically destroy and her arcane magics to decimate entire areas. sure her multiple elements kinda goes with this, but it would have been cool if her wrath powers could be used far more often and with greater effects. the story is great though, i like how it was handled and ehr character developement is pretty damn solid. but it's greatest sin..... WHY THE FCK WOULD YOU KILL THE DAMN HORSE IMMEDIATELY!???!? like, all the promo stuff was her with her horse waiting to be called on. and you dont even get to ride even once. NOT ONCE!!! very dissapointing. but overall, solid game, just not as good as it;s brothers..... maybe it was on theme i suppose.

Its based on the time of the ending so since darksiders 3 ends with the destroyer in plain sight and lucifer mentioning the corruption will overtake them all it means that Darksiders 2 is next since the corruption doesnt exist in darksiders 1 and darksiders 2 ends with the narrator saying war broke the 7th seal and in darksiders 1 u do get to see all 3 of the summoned horsemen flying towards war after being summoned so darksiders 1 is ultimately the one thats furthest into the future than the other 3

Watched through the entire video now. Welcome to the club and thank you for the video, which i say in accompaniment with great congratulations to finishing such a *very* big undertaking. I'm really glad that the series ended up being such a strong one for you and am hoping here along you and many others that it can properly continue finish the saga of the Horsemen with a good and satisfying ending. Heck, just with good, memorable experiences throughout, warts and all. Darksiders is a really odd beast that people can be quite divided over on what they like from it, what they want from it and what they think it should have. Generally 3 is indeed considered teh weakest and i'm inclined to agree, at least where it concerns story and writing. Similar to what you said at your feeling of 3, it feels like there's something odd about it. Not quite right on the writing front in comparison to 1 and 2, which some have found to last a bit into Genesis. I don't know how to put it into words exactly, but i shall try my hand at it: Darksiders 3 dialogue feels less snappy. Or flowing. The performances are good, but the writing's not quite like a theater or epic in the same vein that 1 and 2 are. Like you stated, Fury talks a lot more. There's a lot more talking in the game in general. War was quite strategic in what he said and when he said it, which made his wit shine all the more when he does show it. Be it in words, or in actions. Like kicking the Abyssal Gladiator's sword back at him, or chopping off his legs after the Gladiator mocked him for only having two legs to stand on. Death had more opportunities to converse and the characters had good writing to accompany their performances, and likewise. On the poetic end for characters like Eideard (old Maker), Muria (maker Shaman), Ostegoth (goatman merchant), more snide for Draven (Blademaster in Kingdom of the Dead) and the Chancellor, the Lord of Bones mixes those elements a bit... There is a likelihood that I could win in a structured and researched debate, with as purpose to analyze 3's writing in comparison to its siblings. But that likelihood would be put in the size class of ants, yet lack their skills of organization. Something is off in the writing. By now, other people in the comments have filled you in on the reasons why Darksiders 3 is a different beast-- shutdown of THQ, Vigil and the six-year limbo of the franchise. However, i find that there's still interesting things to Fury's story. As I understand it by now, she didn't initially join the Horsemen out of a sense of justice, or at least not fully. But because she wanted safety from the Nephilim's destruction. That puts her in a position where she fights for a cause she does not care for. Her only real care is for the Four as a whole. A small area of care to be sure. For someone with little direction in their life, there is little ambition other than to try and become the leader. Wrath states that he and his fellow Sins always considered Fury the dumb one-- she seems quite disrespected, the runt of the litter as it were. A tryhard dominatrix that needs to get the last word in. Hard to like such a character for sure. But it does mean that the development will be the most noticable. I'd say that Darksiders 3 has the lowest lows, but also a *very* big high where it concerns Lust. A creative take that shows Lust not as something explicitly sexual or erotic, as is very common. But as something more subtly alluring. Something that we *think* will make us happy, that will give our life fulfillment and makes life worth living. Something wherein we give up our self-control, our standards, our restraint and inhibition to pursue fleeting sensations that has us waste our potential and force the world around us to bend to our own desires, just for even a flicker of fulfillment. And it shall leave us with less than we started with. The fact that Fury reacted the way she did to her brothers being shown kneeling for her, shows strength of character. Fury is elevated by the bond with her siblings, a fact which Strife can attest to. How he got on Earth, we do not know... yet. But his love for Fury shines through strongly, else he would not go to the effort of taking up the mantle of Jones, to help her take first steps to a more fulfilling and meaningful path in life. Fury is still a tryhard dominatrix and I wouldn't mind a rewrite of Darksiders 3 with the writers of 1, 2 and Genesis or a writer like Jonas Kyratzes (Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, The Talos Principle), but all scenes surrounding Lust, plus Lust's performances itself has struck in the mind the best and most positively out of everything in Darksiders 3. Big comment of mine, if you took the time to read through it: Thank you for doing so, I hope you found it interesting. I'll be leaving another comment talking a bit more about Darksiders 3 and another game. I could put it in this comment but hey, more comments helps the algorithm or something. And i want to send this out before my computer may possible freeze or crash or just bug out like your console did :P Here's to hoping the best for the future of the Horsemen! May the story continue well and end well!

I read the whole thing. There's not much I can say, I found it an interesting read, and at times felt myself going back to scenes in Darksiders 3 in my head, like the scenes with Lust.. or Strifes return, now knowing he was there from the start being the only "human" not afraid of Fury. I think I can agree, that Fury while the most unlikable of the 4 horsemen.. she also has the most obvious characters growth, War & Death both more less stay on there own path.. Strife we dont know what he's gone through to be where he is, but Fury has a very clear character change which is actually nice to experience. Thanks for the great comment!

Darksiders 3 has fantastic writing, doesnt beat 1 but 2 is bloated and artificially extended with tons of dialog on top of dialog options. Story wise 2 is still very good but both 2 and 3 focus mostly on the characters journey while tying into the overall story at the end. Death reviving humanity and Fury protecting humanity. Fury is very well written as is death but Fury has a more focused and to the point story which is alot easier to digest and more enjoyable in my opinion.

At first I really struggled with the combat in Darksiders 3 because I thought it was ass. Then it turned out to be a skill issue and I discovered that the combat was far worse than I originally thought. Also, no horse, no finishers, no grabs, pointless aerial exchanges... ugh, the game is shallow when compared to the other 2. I booted up DS1 again last night on a Steam Linux build running a 1050TI and marveled at how beautiful the game looks. I also finished the Nightmare mode on DS2 yesterday and started the NG+ Nightmare mode on PS5. Darksiders 4 just needs to be between DS1 and 2 game wise, starring Strife.

KZbin apparently decided to recommend this 'entire series' run immediately after I'd watched the new Darksiders teaser trailer from 2 days ago... 😂 You might need to do a supplementary video in a few months time..!

got the 1 2 and 3 dirt cheap on the winter sale. looked at the plats and went, nah dog, I can't be bothered. and just enjoyed them for the main story and combat. old games, still hold up pretty well. except some parts with the platform grabbing a bit. and not a huge fan of back tracking, but the first one had some fun portal shenanigans. also, weird, mine didn't crash a single time.

Dude, I don't know if you got it, but from what I watched in the video, you didn't get the last piece of abyssal armor in Darksiers 2. You got the gloves, the boots and shoulder pads but you didn't get the "pants". You can do it This is the last piece of armor collecting all 40 pages and breaking all the boxes in the last door of the book of death in the side mission.

Played the hell out of 1 and 2. Played 3 till the last boss but never beat it just out of boredom. Skipped on genesis for the first year cause the Diablo style amd character switch ability wasnt my taste. then decided to bite the bullet amd played it maybe half way through.

I preordered 1, 2, and 3 and got the platinums when they came out. If memory serves, the company that made the games went out of business after 2, so I had lost hope that they were going to finish the series. Then 3 came out 6ish years later. It wasn't fun. And I had no idea how they were going to make a game about Strife when his weapon was a pistol. Then genesis was announced as a top down and I lost all interest. Did you not fight Wicked K in Darksiders 1? I may have missed it in the footage. He gives you a lot of resources when you beat him. He's hidden in 4 different locations iirc.
