Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance also had zombies who could lose their heads and wandered around thereafter. You could even cut off both arms and they'd be harmless. Though that was more of a scripted/random occurrence (like some zombies would always lose their arms at certain health levels, or whatnot); you couldn't do it intentionally. It's from late 2001.

What? You always play Severance as the dwarf. The amazon was just Lara Croft with spears, the barbarian had no personality, the knight had the most combos (but the slowest recovery times) and the dwarf, while owning the shortest combat reach, had the most health and could essentially walk dodge most enemy attacks without having to even press the dodge button plus he was practically immune to most of the traps where rotating saw blades would just sail over his head due to having been designed by dwarven trap makers to slay taller victims.

@@FromBeyondTheGrave1 I'm not sure why you're replying to my comment, but I do agree with you, I don't think Blade of Darkness is by any means a direct predecessor to the souls games. Pascal's Wager combines Bloodborne's setting, Geralt from the Witcher, JonTron's parrot Jacques but as an owl, and tribal E.T. That last one combines Kenshi with the Legend of Zelda and fails in both.

Honestly the devs behind Pascal's Wager should just port it to PC,I can tell it's not a cash grab because of all the effort they seem to have put into it(Cut scenes,lore,unique character designs,and I'm assuming an original soundtrack...),add to that the fact that we don't see any micro-transactions... Hell,I don't even think they were ripping off Bloodborne,I just think they picked the same era of history as BB as an inspiration,you can see it's doing it's own thing! These guys are clearly competent developers who picked the wrong platform for their game!

Blade of darkness was amazing for its time! On higher levels you could also do special attacks with button combinations like a fighting game, and oh boy was it weird to dodge and do all the souls-like fighting with those attacks in between, so most ppl just ignored those. These videos actually make me really sad. I do an English degree and my dissertation was essentially Gothic fiction dumpster diving - finding crap ignored stories from the early horror genre and trying to piece together a history of the genre's conception. But given the way video games probably won't make it into any kind of archives or academic records, we are watching the creation of a genre in our living memory that is inspiring millions of people in terms of environmental storytelling, and despite the fact that souls games (or video games as a whole) definitely have a similar impact on people as historical topics we are actually funded to research, thousands of hours of human design, creativity and passion are probably going to be forgotten. Tldr the idea of steam dumpster diving is pretty much what a lot of literature researchers have to do anyway and someone actually trying to track the cultural impact of a genre (and be hilarious at the same time) is quite inspiring and meaningful to me. Pls keep dumpster diving iron pineapple

Play Duke Nukem 3D from 1996. Makes modern world interaction look pathetic
@andressagredo15094 жыл бұрын
Yes they did that in exchange of the game being smaller and having limitations in graphics. It's the issue that was mentioned where most of the map looks exactly the same, so if the player can interact around it will not feel like every room is the same. Now that we get variety in visuals, map lay outs, and generally more freedom in movement, there is no reason to interact with the world as much in the eyes of developers. There always seems to be trade offs with videogames, BOTW for example feels empty after a few hours despite having a huge area with an impressive amount of interactions.

I know you’re going for slapstick comedy and cheap jokes, but Blade of Darkness really is a masterpiece. It was abandonware for so long, nobody, not even Codemasters, knew who owned the rights, and then, one magical day it, it was actually released on Steam with native widescreen support and overall updated to run on current hardware. It’s insane, the game is so good and “reviewing” it after playing just Tabriz is a joke. The game is all about the organic increase in difficulty and knowing how to use your weapons. It really is a lost gem. I fuckin love being able to play it in 2022 with no crash related anguish or bugs. It’s great!
