I'd happily play the entire campaign of Mario Party Advance over a single game of Top 100. Advance isn't Mario Party but that doesn't mean it's not fun

It was an attempt to make a mario party inspired single player game. As soon as you get a hang of the minigames it's quite the fun game. I'd say if it had a different name so that it wasn't judged on the standards of being a mario party game, the game itself would be fine. It's a decent game, it's just not what people expect when they read mario party.

I appreciated that you left out Super Mario Party since it's a lot better than its haters make it out to be. There are a couple of broken gimmicks but it's still fun. Mario Party Advance looks pretty good too since it has a unique personality and style, and I might pick up Island Tour for that stupid voice replicating mode.

I am convinced that the Nintendo Cube taking over development from Hudsonsoft on Mario Party changed what the series strived for. 9 and 10 failed to reinvent the series. The 3DS games tried to make a bunch of side modes the main focus of the game. Super Mario Party tried to combine what the 3DS games did well with a slightly-more traditional style Mario Party. Superstars took a step back and gaged interest in traditional Mario Party gameplay, now with online play. Super Mario Party gaining online play 2 years after release was to compare how traffic between it and Superstars compared. And now Jamboree knit together the goods parts of Super Mario Party with traditional Mario Party.
