It sucks how people who love playing chess and are also economically disadvantaged are giving this often dirty term of “hustlers”. Almost all of them charge $5 a game if you loose to them and will give $5 if you beat them which is how they make a living. Just because they play chess on the streets for a living instead of in professional matches doesn’t make them any less of a person or any less in the chess community.
@matthew-vw3pw
@matthew-vw3pw Жыл бұрын
@@isabellam1936 they are hustlers because they are planning on winning a game and taking money from someone that had no chance of winning in the first place. Has nothing to do with where they play or how much money they have. I used to hustle pool, i dont look down on it. I dont know why you feel the need to assume that lifestyle is lower than yours, i certainly never did.
@TraeSMR

@@isabellam1936Except there's multiple videos of Internet rated GMs going to play against hustlers in famous parks and they catch them trying to swap pieces during a board shake or adjust. It works against regular people, but Chess GMs can recite every move in a game they just played, so they know all of the piece positions. Of course this isn't an indictment against all park chess players, but it's bad that there is repeated instances of this happening.

Love watching you sisters play chess. You make it very accessible to anyone who's been scared into thinking it's this PhD level brain surgery requiring rocket scientist type game. But it's not. Its a game like any else that you can enjoy if you learn the rules & it's often the players that make it high level with their strategic thinking & game strategies. Level just depends on how you choose to play the game.

Wow, this video, 'I Played Chess Hustlers in Union Square Park', is absolutely fantastic! As a 6-year-old chess enthusiast, I find it super inspiring to watch the friendly yet competitive spirit of the game unfold right in the heart of the city. It's amazing to see how chess can bring people together, even when they're just meeting for the first time. The way you navigated through each game, considering every move with such thought and care, really shows your passion and understanding of chess. I love chess too, and I think you're awesome for sharing this experience with us!

The first 15 moves or so are very rehearsed. They do this all day, every day. A lot of times, they've won long before they get to the point where they have to think about their moves. If you can speed up your moves, it will intimidate your opponent, so there's a psychological aspect to it as well. Just practice 5-6 different openings over and over and over again, until you know them by heart, and you won't need to think about it unless your opponent actually counter your strategy.
@greg4033
@greg4033 3 жыл бұрын
Its because they have the opening moves completely memorized. Between playing tons of games and studying the different openings, they automatically know the 'correct' order of moves to play at the start to respond to the opponents moves. Eventually they hit a point where the memorization stops and they are unfamiliar with what to do next, so they have to stop and think about their strategy
