@jaymills11112 жыл бұрын
Your GPU is a little worse than the GTX 760 in this build but your FX 6300 is far better than the Phenom in it and the bottleneck was the CPU so if you dropped the resolution to 720p you could probably squeeze out 30fps most of the time! I'd say go for it, steam lets you refund games within the first 3 hours (I believe it's 3 hours) so you could always refund it if it doesn't run well enough.

@aleksazunjic96722 жыл бұрын
Depends what you want to do with it. Adding RAM does wonders, as well as SSD for boot. Lot of people do mundane tasks with their PCs, with only some light gaming. For example, in this case, Elden Ring is not playable but older titles like Darks Souls (very similar settings) could be.
@manaphylv1002 жыл бұрын
@@aleksazunjic9672 Sure, but don't forget that old components are much more prone to failure, and finding replacement parts will be harder and more expensive as they are out of production. If you spend a little more for a new system, you will not only get a much better usage experience no matter what you do on it, but also a lot more life out of it. Plus, your old system has more resale/residual value in working condition.
@aleksazunjic96722 жыл бұрын
@@manaphylv100 I'm not advocating spending tons of money on old systems. But if you can get something cheap or even free, upgrading RAM and storage is no brainer. Overall cost should certainly not exceed 50% of a new system.
@manaphylv1002 жыл бұрын
@@aleksazunjic9672 If you can get RAM or storage for next to nothing, then of course, take it. But you'll be surprised how many people would spend a fortune on silly things like the fastest CPU for an old socket.

On a shorted VRM you can usually just clip the legs of the dead mosfet and undervolt the CPU and you should be fine.
@OzTalksHW2 жыл бұрын
Woah, I might try this another time. Thanks
@filenotfound__38712 жыл бұрын
@@OzTalksHW the same technique works with shorted graphics cards, since most of them have at least 3-phase VRM, by disconnecting a shorted phase you can bring a gpu back to life, it will have a bit less power avalible and might be unstable on the stock frequency, but you can simply undervolt or underclock the core a bit. If the graphics card or the motherboard supports overclocking, you might not need to underclock it, I just wouldn't recomend overclocking it again. Only problem is that on a motherboard with separate high and low side transistors, you might need to cut off all the transistors connected to the shorted phase. Also, just check the fuses before testing them.

Great video, I work for a small non profit that gets gov. funding dealing with seniors, and our budget for tech is next to nothing, and I work at a remote site from my main office, and when I asked my boss for a PC they we don't have the budget, so I grabbed my old gaming build that was in storage with an AMD Athlon II X4 @2.95 Ghz 8GB DDRII RAM on an MSI micro ATX board with AMD R7 240 2GB GPU, and a 450 watt PSU. slapped in a 120GB SSD along with the 500GB HDD put Solus Linux on it, and upto middle of last year it was my main work computer, and during downtime in 2020 with no clients, I was able kill time a work with STEAM games on Solus Linux no problem, but I had to keep my expectations in check for sure, and know the systems limits. So yeah I would love for you to revisit this again with an older machine, with DDR2 RAM but on Linux, and an AMD GPU to see the difference in performance.
