Arbok is one of those Pokemon I never used but always wanted to. It just never has a place on my team because I'm a type-advantage player and it's Solo Poison typing never fits. Not too long ago I did a Poison Mono Run on Red and somehow Arbok was the star of the team. Then even more recently I caught a Shiny Ekans in Violet and that thing was a BEAST, used it for a while until I found a shiny Varoom and it became a star member of my team named Fairy Fueled (Steel/Poison = Ultimate Fairy K*ller). I've always wondered why Morty didn't have a Misdreavus. Also Chuck IS named after Chuck Norris, Like Hitmonlee = Bruce Lee, Hitmonchan = Jackie Chan.

Hearing that the Togepi will hatch shortly is kinda funny because when I still played Crystal I often still had that egg when I already arrived at Ecruteak City. Looking it up it apparently doesn't even need that many steps to hatch, and additionally I did a lot of walking back and forth between towns and also a lot of training, so I have no idea what was going on or what I did wrong that it didn't hatch any earlier.

Starting with Totodile might have helped against Claire, since it should learn Ice Fang before the gym; more helpful than Typhlosion, unfortunately. Totodile has a fairly neutral early game, Bite for Morty, and water is either neutral or super to Pryce and Jasmine's strongest pokemon. Totodile definitely has it the best in this gen, no competition. Wish Typhlosion had more coverage options.

I believe for the gift tentacool issues you were having, if you still have the means to potentially catch another water or flying type (left route encounters and fishing rod) and still have pokeballs in your inventory, you aren’t soft locked yet so it won’t trigger the free tentacool.

Managed to get a second copy of HG recently so i started it up as just a regular run that i do but i am turning it into one of using pokemon i don't tend to use such as bellsprout and spinarak. Only one badge in, choosing cyndaquil my fav gen 2 starter, but trying to figure things out as i manage my team. Might try to get a new battery for one of my pokewalkers to work on leveling my team while also finding more pokemon i don't often use.

The Tentecool doesn't even require you to not be able to Surf or Fly. The only requirement is, one mon in your party, nothing in the PC. You could put two mons in the Daycare, release everything else but your Fly user, and straight-up Fly to Cianwood to claim your Tentacool. I speak from experience.

I'm actually intending to do a no-catch run of SoulSilver at some point (not a Nuzlocke), and I'm intending to make it so I only have three mons by the time I beat Morty, so I can just kinda dodge everything until I get to Cianwood and get Tentacool, then backtrack and beat everyone I skipped on the way, grab intended team members I passed up along the way. It'll take some planning to make it happen, but I'm up for it.

I got really lucky when I did this Nuzlocke because I got a Female Eevee from Bill so I was able to get 4 more Eevee Eggs from it and my Starter Croconaw (at the time) and get all of the available Eeveelutions. This helped a lot lol

the only way i could see you getting the Tentacool without losing all your Pokemon is trading them all, and then getting more from Primo or the Game Corner to trade them back in. But is the effort even worth it, for a mediocre to decent Pokemon? Probably not

You might have been able to trade all but one of your pokemon to another game to get the tenticool. It probably didn't work because the game still registered that you had surf/fly Pokemon in the daycare.

I have been playing since 1999, no catch runs were already a thing way before the internet could support videos 😂 By the time gen2 came around, you could have enough pokemin at the end of a run to stash in pokemon stadium and never catch again in the next runs as you reused them. Eventually "starter only" runs become an idea and then using the free getters because HM mules would eventually win battles by accident.
