Great work on the 1cc! Consistent play really is so important and it tends to get overlooked -- you sometimes see people saying stuff like "I've never beaten a touhou game and I've been playing for 15 YEARS" but they play like once every 4 months and retain no information, which makes it a really misleading time estimate lol (in-game hours in the Player Data menu are one of the better ways of gauging playtime)
@helloimbo8 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yeah it’s like trying to learn a language by cramming every month, sure you might retain some skill but most of it will be gone by the next time. I mean I 1cced TH10 like a year ago and while I was better here than I was then it still took a lot to get decent again. I kind of like losing some skill and Re challenging myself for like a week or two when I start the next game though. If I find the next game I choose to be easier because I move to it quicker I might give hard a shot

22:54 we screamed at the same time when i saw that. Great Video! Touhou 15 Pointdevice mode next? That helps getting better. One or two things i would add: Bomb more, nearly every time i saw you die you had bombs left. I had the feeling you didnt really practice stages during the video. There were a few times where your position was just... wrong. Watch replays of other people, you might learn 1 or 2 things from them.
@helloimbo13 күн бұрын
Thanks! I’ve actually done TH15 on Pointdevice as Marisa and 1CCed TH10 over a year ago now, but that’s all I’ve done. It was a while ago though, so I sort of lost all my skill (my 1cc footage was used in the background footage, and you can see how close even that was). And yeah, I don’t really practice stages because I just try to brute force them lmao. It’s probably one of my many touhou downfalls along with the inability to bomb properly that starting with TH10 brings me
@lpfan449113 күн бұрын
Beating Chirno in TH6 and doing it semi-consistently is still unironically one of my most proud gaming achievements(I was then kicked off Remilia's property by a certain chinese sleeper). Straight up, I have vague plans to return to the series(It has been a few years since trying TH6), but I can already tell that I won't ever 1CC anything besides games that gift the player the 1CC for free(Like Lolk, which is ironically one of the most tryhard games in the series), I will just be happy if I can simply beat any of them.
@helloimbo13 күн бұрын
If you want a game to beat TH10 at least let’s you restart at the stage infinitely. You will have to learn more attacks because you only get the lives provided and can’t just continue right where you died but atleast you don’t have to replay the whole game. If you do LoLK on Pointdevice just don’t play Reisen because her bomb sucks for really hard spellcards since you still have to survive them. I’ve also heard Reisen is the best on Legacy mode if you do that instead though. Whatever you pick, just stick to it and you’ll get it eventually. Ngl I recorded myself in the first place so I could have the motivation to boot it up everyday and do it
@helloimbo13 күн бұрын
Btw I’m biased because those are the other two I’ve played so other people might say something like TH7, 8 or maybe 13 (I think) would be best because TH10 is not the easiest and we all know how TH15 is

Nice 1cc!!!!! And I felt those final spell failures, I did that on Kanako once and it fucking SUCKED. I also had no idea the point collection system depended on value and not the amount of points, guess I gotta study this game’s mechanics more lol. And yes, so true… this is why when I was getting in to Touhou (minus Touhou 6 because I resolved that I don’t like it and I STILL don’t like it to this day,) I kept trying to beat Touhou 7 over and over and over on normal until I finally beat it with a 1cc. Then I did the exact same thing with the extra stage and it worked like a charm, even if it took me two days. Consistency is indeed what you need. I can tell that I get worse when I don’t play enough, I took a couple months break and just couldn’t beat hard 1cc’s consistently on DDC. And there’s also sometimes when you just… play bad for no reason, like, sometimes my eyes just can’t dilate to the projectiles that day or time so I just switch to something else and try again later. I also tend to look at runs of other people and study their movement for spellcards I REALLY suck at because sometimes I just can’t be bothered or the run is just that close. I fucking hate Kagerou’s fight and the Tsukumo’s fight, the amount of seemingly random projectiles just stink and then you have Seija with the direction changing which I doubt I will be able to wrap my head around for a while. Though, it is still a cool gimmick. Also, FUCK Shinmy’s timeout spell!!!!!

Thanks! I’m not entirely sure what determines the value in a POC, but I guess I came into it just expecting the power drops to have more value towards the bonus than the normal ones. After looking it up all I can find is that you need >20 items to get a bonus so I’m probably wrong in that assumption I’ve always felt that the idea of playing consistently (and improving in general) is not really that your highs increase more, but that your lows get better and better, meaning that your worst day now might be your average day weeks ago. Once you improve your low end, the high end raises on its own. It’s not about being better everyday but averaging better every week or month. It’s like how a pro’s bad might be an amateur’s perfect. Also I’m sure the fact I was in a call with friends the day I played really bad didn’t help towards my performance lmao Kanako’s final spellcard always has my heart racing with how long that one lasts. My TH10 1cc was by the skin of my teeth because of it. It wasn’t as earned as this one but it sure had me thrilled to eek out a win The direction changing never felt super difficult as long as I hugged the bottom but the left and right one is definitely worse because it’s harder to visualize the stage as “flipped” whereas the up/down one literally puts you facing down from the top I agree about the Shinmy spell-the hardest Touhou challenge might be to capture that I swear
@aqua__owo14 күн бұрын
Congrats on your 1cc of Touhou 14! It's one of the harder ones (though I'm sure you're aware of that). Personally, 14 was the 2nd last game I 1cced before finally 1ccing all the games on normal. I had to use Reimu B, for the simpler shot type and (imo) easier stage 4. The POC gimmick of this game requires so much restraint (or perhaps memorization) as its far to easy to run up and immediately die. But if I were to have a tip I'd say collecting the items in the middle of the screen, then running back down to catch the bomb/life fragment is much safer, than staying in the top corners for too long. Anyways good luck on your Touhou journey! Maybe play some Touhou 9 (or 3) if you want to improve your rng dodging capabilities. I noticed that I got significantly better after playing 9 for some time.
@helloimbo14 күн бұрын
Yeah I saw that’s some people really like the gimmick and I always found it rather difficult to deal with so my strategy was probably just bad. Once you learn to just bomb more it get’s a lot easier though. Touhou 10 teaching me to limit bomb usage was no benefit for me on that front. I think if I keep playing more I might go in order from 6 (I’ve played 10,14, and 15 just because I could buy them on steam), but it might be worth it to play 9 and then go in order just for the practice

Woah that made me nostalgic. Touhou 14 was the first one I played and I really enjoyed it, but in hindsight IIRC on normal difficulty you can brute-force a large part of the game with bombs. I haven't play the newest one, but if you are planning to play other mainline games, I highly suggest 16; and if you want to look for fan-games, I think Hollow Song of Birds has a really neat vibe and great music.

Absolutely agree with HSoB, Infinite Blade Pavillion is also great. Only semi agree on 16 though, the backgrounds make everything weird. I'd say 6, 7, 8 and 10 are beginner friendly, 13 is good for resource management, 12 and 14 teach you to move outside of your comfort zone movement wise (12 also punches you in the face while doing so but I digress), and 15 can be used to perfect capture skills with pointdevice mode.11 doesn't fit much of a niche for me, but it's pretty hard and fun. Haven't played enough of 17 and 18 or the VS shooters to have an opinion.

I will say that TH15 on point device makes you feel like you’re trapped in an eternal loop of pain and suffering at some points (also the stage 6 theme is ethereal) I also like TH10’s continue system for practice reasons, it makes it easier to brute force a standard win imo

Consistency probably helped your mechanical skills, but as you play, consistently or not, it's your observation and prediction skills that improve also.
