It only gets like this if you never do any simple maintenance to it. Gotta clean the filter out every couple weeks or so and use some cleaning stuff during a cycle without any dishes. It’s all very simple. I’ve stopped my dishwasher after it already started and doesn’t look anything like this. But I also don’t leave food on my dishes like he does. A quick little rinse would get rid of all that what looks like grape jelly.

I try to at least rinse my dishes if they are dirty before I load the machine. You have standing water already at the bottom. Check out the trap at the bottom and run an empty wash with dishwasher cleaner a few times and then some good ol elbow grease scrubbing. Try dishwasher pods next time. Good luck!

Don't know how old your DW is, but today's machines don't need pre-rinsing. Just scrape off & load. Occasionally clean the filter/drain. For these machines, it's wasting water to pre-rinse.

@@mauseratimeowzebub8818actually even with newer dishwashers, pre-rinsing can prolong the life of your dishwasher for a few reasons. 1.)if food is dried on, pre-rinsing can make the food looser and easier to come off, 2.) larger pieces of food can eventually make their way towards the motor area and particle buildup can cause it to seize. 3.) the food particles can build up under the door area and eventually cause leaks And 4.) smaller food particles can make their way into those little helicopter looking things and clog the holes that the water comes out of causing your dishwasher to not wash or rinse dishes correctly. I have a newer dishwasher, and my husband thought the same way you did and here we are, 3 years into using it and these are ALL issues that we have already had to fix. The motor seizure is the worst of those because it is the most expensive fix of all these things. Regularly cleaning it with dishwasher cleaner is also recommended.

How a dishwasher works; It first fills the bottom catch pan with hot water and holds it, and repumps it through the nozzles, and is used to loosen the food particles left on the dishes. At the end of that cycle it drains the dirty water. The next cycle refills the bottom pan again with hot water then opens up the soap box and cleans the dishes, repumping the soapy water through the nozzles again. Then drains it again. The next cycle fills the bottom pan and holds the water again to rinse. Some dishwashers doesn't have the pre rinse in the beginning, and just opens the soap box and it mixes the soapy water with the food particles to wash the dishes. Dishwashers kinda works like a clothes washer. Some fancy dishwashers have extra cycles and a heating element like in an oven to dry the dishes. So, if you don't rinse off the food particles on the dish before loading in the dishwasher, it most likely will cycle through with the water in the washing cycle, before it drains for the rinse cycle. Also there is brown water in the bottom of the dishwasher before he starts the load. its possible he didnt finish a drain cycle from the last load and the water pooled. Be sure to clear food debris from your drain filter or else you will be washing with dirty water.

I ran the dishwasher once before we left to go shopping and we had a flood in the kitchen when we got back. Got under our laminate floor, into the walls, into the cabinets. What a nightmare! That happens a lot he just needs to do a clean cycle on his dishwasher. 1 cup of vinegar on the top shelf ( most people use a glass measuring cup) and run it on empty with the hottest water possible. If that doesn't work also check the filter, it could be super dirty ( little round piece at the very bottom . If you have you manual there is a bunch of cleaning tips in there specifically for your model and if you don't have it, find your model# and you can find a PDF version online 😂😊 hope this helps.

People expect it to never get dirty I guess, like if you don't ever wash your sink it's gonna be dirty. Just because there is soap & water on a area doesn't mean there's not going to get any bacteria in there, food particles are flying all around in there, so of course it's going to need attending to. Vinegar will destroy all the seals on your dishwasher. The reason for the water colouration is a mix of detergent in the water and the fact that your dishwasher reuses water multiple times in each stage of a cycle. It's only as dirty as the dishes you put in, but far more efficient than filling the sink.

If cleanliness is a priority then you should use a dishwasher. They tested the difference between hand washing and dishwasher and the dishwasher made the dishes much cleaner and the hand washed dishes were dirtier and made people sicker. The dish washer gets to a heat level that is impossible for your sink to reach and it kills the bacteria. Dishwasher will always be cleaner as long as you put it on hot water.
