Just bought a Cane Creek Coil shock for my Yeti SB130. I rode the Fox air shock for last two years. It’s pretty much blown. Can’t wait to try coil. I got a 450-550 progressive spring. I’m 160lbs.

I'm just back on full sus after being a hardtail evangelist for the last 3 or 4 years. I decided to give a trail bike a try after snapping my last hardtail, and got a great deal on a Vitus Mythique. I was always coil-curious before, now even more so. Oh, do you have a helmet light for your night riding? Didn't look like it from the footage. You should try it, if you haven't. Having a light on your helmet that lights up what you are looking at, not just whats in front of you wheel, is game changer

Nice! I do use a helmet light, but the light on my bars is so bright that it kind of drowns it out.

What are your opinions now after having coil a while?

I won't ever go back to air. I just picked up a higher end coil for my ebike, and it's absolutely incredible.

@@MTBTrailReview what shock are you using now?
@MTBTrailReview
@MTBTrailReview 9 ай бұрын
@@orla222 I have the RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate on my ebike, and the Marzocchi on my trail bike. I will probably get the RockShox for trail bike, too. It feels significantly better.

I had just had it fully serviced about two months before this, and it was feeling good.

I thought the biggest advantage of a coil is that they look totally badass. I always hated how air rear shocks looks like a dinky pump. The downside is the coil setup is insanely complicated and calculating the right spring rate and finding the right coil can induce brain cancer.

That's exactly why I enlisted my local bike shop to help me out. I'm lucky to have a shop full of riders that know their stuff. I know that's not the case everywhere.

Damn it Chris, I've been on the fence about converting to coil for a few months. And now you're going to make me spend the money :). Do you mind if I ask how many lbs spring you used?
@MTBTrailReview

You'll be pretty excited about it when you switch. I'm using an Ohlins 674 lb linear spring.

What coil did you put on? Have you done any fine tuning on it ?

I put the Marzocchi Bomber on with an Ohlins spring linear spring. I got a lot of help from the bike shop to make sure it was all set up properly and that it was balanced with my fork.

A lot of people don’t realize the bike industry is backwards from any other with suspension. They preach progression when most bike are actually digressive. All then I Kate’s are just bs that NOT needed. The fastest offroad who led don’t use variable digressive ratios. They run 1:1 at worst and 2:1 is normal My giant glory has a 3” travel shock I’m 200 lbs and run a 600lb coil. 3”travel X 600 equals 1800lbs of force. There zero chance 200lbs creates 1800lbs of force on a 3’ drop. But I still manage to bottom out. A lot of people complain about midrange and bottom out on their air shock after the perfect sag. The problem is air doesn’t have a spring rate and it can be compressed also air change with heat that’s why ya gotta ride with a pump. If anyone has watched FOX’s dialed on yt then you see jordy has spoken about geometry and shocks not working together. Greg minnar will ride saysbit perfect then come back and says it not right and one click of adjustment is too much. This is solely because of digression. Bikes of the 90’s had better geometry than most bikes made today. Some are progressive Some are recently changing their design to a progressive one but it’s 20 years late to be trying to figure it out. People pay a lot for bike with poor geometry just cause it’s the cool brand If you look in offroad when the suspension is bottomed out the shock is collapse and 90 degrees off the arms When you go past that 90 degrees at full bump your not using as much valving and ou need more coil rate to compensate. It’s called chasing rate I been commenting on all the pages for last year or so. People who have zero clue about suspension

If I'm being honest, I have zero clue about suspension. I do my best to take advice from the people that know what they're talking about, and then I can comment on how it feels. This feels good, and feels significantly better than my air shock. I don't care much about weight, and the bike climbs fine. I think I'll be riding a coil from now on.
