Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. The spoken language is Norwegian: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmHJZKdpmdJ1mM0

Thank you for featuring Angelina again. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Her Wisdom isn't just singing or song writing, it's her Personal Behavior from age 8. Her Mamma was heard saying, "she has been doing Adult things from age 8". The Wisdom is a gift to her and she is willing to share it through her actions and song. Read her bio on Wikipedia, and be amazed by the accomplishments to age 17, God Bless!

Hard to believe someone who has done Angelina reactions hasn't seen this before! lol Usually the order goes Bohemian Rhapsody then I Put A Spell On You. Funny you say she is music. One of the judges from NGT told her YOU ARE MUSIC! Maybe you are refencing that. All of her performances, 200+, are pretty amazing, no misses, maybe just not as shocking since this and seeing what she is capable of, but you'll never get used to how good she is...at any age;)

Angelina is seen writing her wishes, for how she wanted to sing the song, at the beginning of the video. She pays respect to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the original artist, with his picture on the candle. Angelina conveys the sassy emotions of the song incredibly well. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial

It ought to be against the law for a 9 year old to be able to sound like she does, and do what she does. I for one, am so glad it isn't violating any laws, and her ability has gotten better the older she got.

Please check out her Back to Black cover at 10 yrs old. She even rewrote some of the lyrics on the way to the studio so her mom would let her sing it. She said the lyrics were not appropriate for a child. This song is so very hard to sing and at 10 she slays it. Thankyou for your reaction to Angelina

Thanks for this reaction. Our AJ is a beautiful human being. An unbelievable performance by Angelina. Now you understand why we love our barefoot princess so much. I'm not sure if there are words good enough to describe her artistry. I suggest you should go back to the beginning of her public life at Norways Got Talent. BTW, Quincy Jones asked her to open the show for his 85th birthday celebration. He is quoted as saying Angelina is the best singer since Michael Jackson.

Immensely talented, and an incredible, loving human being. If you'll notice she is barefoot. She always, to this day at 17, performs barefoot. I'll give you the brief story. While in the Middle East at the age of six, ( her grandma is from Iran) she meet a girl around her age weighing people in the street for a living, taking care of her orphaned siblings... Angelina saw her feet were bare and scared, plus it was cold. Angelina gave her, her boots. They discussed their dreams, the girl wanted to be a doctor, Angie wanted to sing for the world. The little girl said she would always pray for Angelina, Angelina would always perform with out shoes, to this day. There is an interview of Angelina at 9 discussing the book she wrote about the girl, with ANNE LINDMO.

Her fans look like they exaggerate. Its hard listening to one or two songs because you only get a tiny scrap of the whole picture. Her 200+ songs are her learning complete control. So in different songs shes trying different dynamics and textures to her voice. She might keep it light and lyrical ( and reacters will say she cannot belt she has no power) or , or gritty like her 13 year old cover of Etta James sat on the blue sofa ID RATHER GO BLIND, they will compare her to Etta James or if they do not know Etta to Amy Winehouse. She might sing with a sleepy sensuality of Lana Del Reys BORN TO DIE, or country pop like Mileys NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART. Her version of Rihannas STAY I actually prefer. She reimagined ELVIS like SUSPICIOUS MINDS and suddenly we heard and understood the lyrics. Be it Whitney or Michael Jackson where she turned Billy Jean into a jazz song. ....... she never shows off ...its always about the song, emotion and lyrics. Rather than show spectacular runs in every song, show all the vocal tricks she can do... she will often strip a song back. When she does honour the origional version by keeping it close her phrasing will often improve the emotional impact. For instance 15 years old singing Adels ALL I ASK . Adele sings 'what if I never love..... again' Angelina sang 'what if I Never .....love again. Her version had a fragile vulnerability Adeles lacked. After the first100 songs you begin to realise there is no limit.
