Yet another banger! Your build ideas are not only hilarious and involve skill and creativity to put together, but damn dude, your presentation is really great. You know exactly how you want to convey the narrative of what you built, and it shows. Every time I completely come along for the story, full stop. Love your work!

what other things could you control with a thinkpad nubbin, gamepads, cars, the NES? the world is your oyster.. or thinkpad nubbin rather

Love your projects so much! But now I'm thinking you have a whole horizontal access to play with. You could adjust the hue or colour temperature with side to side motion. And now I'm thinking "Hey, you could use a trackpad!". Why does nobody make a trackpad light switch??
@GuyDupont
@GuyDupont 11 ай бұрын
Yeah the color idea came up along the way - I think it could totally work with a trackpad (which is a good idea), but the trackpoint is so hard to use accurately that I wouldn't wanna use more than one dimension. I don't think you'd ever be able to land on the actual color you want!

I made a lightswitch out of an apple magic mouse once :3 It was a lot simpler though, all it did was click a button on an app I made so I could control my smart lights with something physical

You could also somehow use Home Assistant or Hue (if thats possible) and avoid having to mess with mains power

Yup totally. I was thinking about putting it in a box on my desk when I disassembled. Wouldn't be as responsive but I'm sure it could work

For the last couple days, I've been thinking about how to redesign the trackball I have. I think trackballs are too bulky, and the thumb ones are a little annoying. I see the solution now - have the left click on the thumb, and nubbin on the index finger to control the cursor with. It might be strange to see the nubbin next to the slider, but trackballs are already funny looking. Anyway, I shall call this design the flicker.

ok cool but now you have to make left and right control color temperature

My immediate thought seeing this is making X axis manipulation on RGB LED lights change the color.

Hi. Nice project! One question - is the RPi Pico really needed? Can't this be done just with an ESP32-S3?
@GuyDupont
@GuyDupont 11 ай бұрын
Could definitely be done without the 2040 - ideally I would have gotten the PS/2 figured out and used that directly with the ESP - I just didn't wanna spend any more time/money on this 😂. The S3 also has USB host capabilities, but no TinyUSB support for that yet so I would have had to port all my USB code
@adamkoxxl
@adamkoxxl 11 ай бұрын
@@GuyDupontyeah, as far I know it uses TinyUSB for USB device and has its own USB host library (at least in ESP-IDF, not sure about Arduino). I've seen USB webcams and joysticks connected to ESP32-S3 this way.
@GuyDupont
@GuyDupont 11 ай бұрын
@@adamkoxxl yup I was looking at doing it via esp-idf but then didn't wanna also have to do the http stuff in there too. Nice thing about the way I did it is it let me use CircuitPython on the ESP so I got a full webserver with websockets in like 40 lines of .py

Super interesting project but I really would like to see the process, not the story afterward. Hearing the story while standing in the snow is cool and all, but I'm not learning anything from that. We want to see your strategies, your successes, your failures.
@GuyDupont

I know the filming/walking around outside is weird (I currently have no space to set up inside) but I would argue that the story covers exactly what you're asking for? I outlined my entire process until I put it in the wall. This is never gonna be a proper tutorial channel, there are enough of those and I don't think I 'd be good at that
