I watched the Goldwing Docs video about putting sea foam in your engine oil to break up any clumps of oil goop from the crank case. At nearly 100,000 miles, I figured it would be worth checking out. Does it live up to what they said it would do?

SeaFoam recommends running 100 to 300 miles with the SeaFoam in the oil. Plus if there was no gunk in the engine, you can't get gunk out. I'm guessing the previous owner changed the oil when he was supposed to do it. I use it on my vehicles, 4 wheelers and Side by Side. All of my current vehicles and toys were purchased used. In all cases, I immediately changed the oil, then added SeaFoam and the changed the oil. It came out "gunky".

Or more correctly the starter sprag clutch. A short ride, maybe not but a good 100 mile ride over multiple days remembering to not rev it over 4.5k and make sure the engine temp reaches full operating temps each ride (at least 20 mins). It does work so does ATF but ATF takes a bit longer to work. use cheap oil after change for maybe 500 miles and then go back to your favorite Quality oil.

See this is what I was hoping for! But like you said it must be running clean or the previous guy cleared it already. Cheers 🍻

My bike was setting for like 3 years before I bought it. Even with fresh gas it ran a little rough. 4 oz. in the oil and the rest in the tank. 150 miles later it was running like new and the oil was pretty dark. Did a quick change with the cheap walmart stuff then a full change in 100 miles with Rotella T 15-40. Smooth as silk ever since.

What "cheap Walmart stuff" are you talking about? I didn't know Walmart had any MA oil branded with their name.

@@clay1883 Supetech full synthetic 10/40. Just as good as the name brand stuff but cheaper. I was using it to flush the motor before putting in good stuff.

Hey Mike....good vid man. I feel for ya on the coolant leak. I had one on my 93 1500 and drove me nuts. It would pool on top of the block...I could see it. I took off all kinds of stuff to try to get a better look..it sucked. I ended up getting some stop leak in there. Like you - probably going against all kinds of motorcycle rules but I was at the end of my rope. Hey..it worked!!!! I sold that bike a couple years ago - riding 2016 wing now. Love'em!!!! I hear ya...I may or may not have had a few glasses of brown water too. LOL

The 1 oz of sea foam is just a maintenance dose. Not enough to do what you are trying to do. If you're on any of the goldwing forums they recommend a HEAVY dose for your starter sprag? might be the word, and also for a slipping clutch. And ride about 100 miles then change the oil. I did this for my clutch and it fixed it. YMMV

I use seafoam before an oil change in my SUV and use the 1 Oz. per quart of oil ratio and then pour the rest of the can in with a full tank of fuel. I then run the vehicle till the tank is about empty. Then I do the oil change. After doing this I have noticed that the new oil seems to be a lot cleaner longer when checking the dip stick. I do not think you ran it long enough to clean the deposits. I would think that there would be less deposits in an engine that has synthetic oil vs conventional oil. I have not done this with my bikes but will give it a try this season.

NGL first vid but i see a goldwing with a piss missile in the garage you seem like my kinda dude hell yeah paused 48 seconds into video to share this with you. off from that topic i ride an 05 katana 600 runs and rides fine dont know who did what in the first 11k miles im nearing 18k like i said rides great already hit it with seafoam in the tank should i throw some in the crank case ? I assume after that ride with it in the crank case its time for new oil with a filter?
@UncleBogator
@UncleBogator 6 ай бұрын
lol idk what a piss missile is but the term made me laugh. What is that? I didn’t do this seafoam right in this video. I should have ridden 100 miles or so with it and I didn’t. But yes definitely change oil and filter afterward. BUT… this was only to help clear the sludge from the centrifugal starter. Nothing else.
@richardramos9799
@richardramos9799 2 жыл бұрын
If you do frequent oil changes you won't have any clumps. Clumps are on the too long between oil changes like any dirty motor.

Any words of advice on an 88 Goldwing not starting? I changed the oil and filter, I got as much of the old gas out of the tank that I could. I changed out a master fuse. Anyone else got some advice for me?

Look you don't need to put seafoam in your oil you shouldn't be putting anything on your oil. You put the oil in the bike you ride you forget about it. Seafoam is great if you've got a problem you don't have a problem so stop trying to fix what you don't have wrong. I would be very concerned if Frankie s*** was coming out of your engine at any point in its lifetime. I put 880k on my GL 1500 before I bought an 1800 and it no point did I ever see any sludge black goop crap. You don't need it. Waste of money and time.
