2 years back, I was a coffee addict, was eating instant coffee powder directly. Had got into downward spiral with anxiety back then. Decided to have a step back and drank coffee occasionally ( from 3-4 cups to atmost 1 per day). This year I quit caffeine about 2 months back. Had serious withdrawl symptoms which lasted a month and today it's better sleep and more control over anxiety. I got myself a LO'R instant decaf, I don't feel like jittery hands anymore which is great. Doing good so far. Hoping to end decaf as well. To anyone reading this, you can do it too.

@@adriangarza7584 for me I can say I feel like a normal person again (first weeks were hard, I felt sleepy and unmotivated) but without stress. I now have nuch less negative thoughts, I'm not angry at daily stuff like seeing how untidy the home is or angry at my partner for silly things. My mind is peaceful. I don't have my heart racing anymore, anxiety was gone from day 1, I don't hyperventilate. I dream everynight because I rest deeper (I rarely did before quitting). I don't even hear my boyfriend snoring anymore (he would wake me up several times during the night before quitting). Hi, Stevo! Thanks so much for this vid! I'm also on my track of quitting coffee! Same problems: poor sleep, and because of it I cannot lose some stubborn fat, since the body doesn't recover well after the workouts, so I basically got myself exhausted with trainings and then I realized that there should be something wrong somewhere, so I started searching and I've found the same ideas as you share. So, I'll do it, I'll bite the bullet, as you say 🤗 And also you've made an extremely important notice to stay hydrated, because coffee is toxic and it flushes out all the good stuff from our bodies... Hm, scary and interesting at the same time regarding the poor deep sleep and neck tension headaches. I have the exact same symptoms. I might have to try this. I usually do 2 cups a day - one in the morning and one after lunch. I might start with cutting the lunch cup, and then when gotten used to that, try cutting it out all together.
@StevoRuns3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristoffer, I can’t actually believe that my neck tensions have gone away. I saw a doctor twice about it and they put it down to stress, tight neck muscles and clenching my jaw. Little did I know it was the caffeine that was causing the stress! It’s been such a worthy thing to give up! You feel more energetic throughout the whole day with no crashes unless you’ve slept badly so your body is doing what it’s meant to do rather than being masked by coffee. That’s a good idea to wean down! It will make stopping a lot easier if you decide to give it a go someday.
@Livsglädjemusic3 жыл бұрын
@@StevoRuns that's awesome, happy to hear you're feeling better - those tensions headaches are no fun at all and it makes perfect sense to me that coffee has played a central role in it. I had them really bad a few years ago - like several times a week where I was just completely put out of business for at least half a day at a time. But then I decided to try to lose weight doing a Keto diet like 3 years ago, and after losing the weight and then staying more conscious of my diet I'm now only getting them a few times a month at most. It's better and worse in periods and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's down to my coffee consumption (I work shifts and sometimes compensate poor sleep with coffee). Also curious to see how it affects my deep sleep. Thanks and be well!

Hi Stevo, I gave up coffee when I first started running in the mornings ratyher than evenings when we had our first daughter. It was as if the run had replaced the job of the coffee. Then I discovered the aeoropress and went back but I can only manage one espresso size before my 2.5hr run, which is every 2 weeks. There's too much data out there stating the benefits of coffee on longevity and brain health for me to give it up.,and i'm going to try and drink more. Remember it's the dose that's the poison. I could never drink 5 cups of anything a day, even water is a struggle,although Beer is easy.So don't go bad-mouthing caffeine as there are benefits at the correct levels,just like water....'I stopped drinking 10 gallons of water a day for 30 days and I now feel brilliant' :0)
@StevoRuns3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leo, yes that is very true about the dose being the poison and my 5 cups was excessive. I’d love to be able to just have one a day because I love the stuff but I know I’ll be straight back to square one. I guess there is pros and cons on the health side but I’m feeling better at the moment enough for me to keep it up, especially the sleep part which is helpful for my recovery. I’ll look deeper into the benefits of caffeine soon and decide what’s best to do but my health issues are slowly sorting themselves out. Do you notice how much your espresso raises your heart rate on your long run or are you not too bothered about HR on that run? I guess it just gives a temporary boost to get you round. I won’t be bad mouthing coffee that’s for sure but I’d like to share my experience for the people that suffer with issues like mine to see if it can help them. The future health benefits is something to think about later when we’re a bit older I reckon 👍🏼

@@StevoRuns Hi Stevo, following a recent study I read I take the coffee 30 mins before my long run as this seems to create a state where your performance matches that of later in the afternoon even though I'm running in the morning. Also if I've only done 60 or 30 min runs over the 2 weeks my mind generally isn't ready for a 2.5hr run and the coffee helps to fire me up for it.After returning to coffee I gave it up for 5 years and only got back to it over the last couple of months and I must admit the crave has gone,and I am forcing myself to drink it,but when I do drink it I really enjoy it. If you give it up for long enough you'll wean yourself off it.It doesnt seem to affect my heart rate when running..Although consume anything that requires the liver to act increases the heart rate.Drinking 280ml of water in a study decreased heart rate and increased HRV.Also, everyone is different on how they handle caffeine.Some can drink it at night and it wont affect their sleep.

I've given up sugar for lent and after a couple of weeks I also gave up caffeine. Its been intense but the level of intensity is proportional to my level of addiction(which I wasnt even aware of). I think caffeine and sugar are two of the biggest addictions in this world and most people dont even realise that they're addicted. The sugar is a big one, and the cravings arent even physical, they're more psychological/existential. I feel like the caffeine cravings disperse fairly quickly but even so I feel like I've dodged some major bullets here, I mean just look around on an average day, how many people do you see carrying cups from cafes? Its a lot.

Ive kept my caffeine Intake at 1 cup a day in the morning. Used to drink 2 to 3 cups but never remotely felt addicted. Quite frankly i dont even know if it helps but nothing beats the taste.
@StevoRuns3 жыл бұрын
Hi, that’s awesome that you’ve kept to one cup only! It’s so easy to start adding cups on again once you’ve cut down. If you don’t feel you have any side effects or don’t sleep badly then you’re ok I guess. Some people feel the difference even off just one cup but everyone is different. And yes you’re right, you can’t beat the taste and I miss it a lot 🥲

It’s so weird to get dreams back isn’t it? I’m still pretty much caffeine free, I have some decaf for taste and occasional chocolate but small enough amounts that I get zero effects like headaches, neck tension, jitters etc, I won’t go back to caffeine now, things are so much better for me without it. I hope yours goes well too, keep going 👍🏼

Hello, just found this video and preparing for tomorrow's cold turkey quitting. I know it's not the best, but as you mentioned here many times, I'm also not that person that can have just one cup of coffee a day. Many or nothing. I'm a chronic quitter, I once was off caffeine like a half year! I know it doesn't do me any good. Now I want to keep a journal about the journey 😉. What works for me are challenges. So I'll give it a try. Every new attempt to quit is harder and harder. I also run, I wonder whether your rest heart rate lowers when not drinking coffee in some time. Also do you see any improvement in performance after quitting?
@StevoRuns Жыл бұрын
Hi Katarina, good luck for tomorrow morning! I don’t need to say how rough you may feel because you’ve been there before but this time you’ve just got to stick with it if that’s what you really want! Just say - challenge accepted! With regards to heart rate, It’s hard to tell if it made a difference in resting HR as mine would fluctuate between 46 and 54 at the time and it’s hard to know if it’s the zero caffeine intake, you’re getting fitter or you’re stressed that makes the difference. There’s too many variables unfortunately. What I would think is that your sleep is so improved and restful that it has to make a difference. Caffeine definitely made a difference when I was HR training with my running but only by 4 or 5 beats but it’s worth it when trying to lower heart rate for training. Best of luck!

How was it quilting while having such a young baby? I feel as I welcome my firstborn in the new few months, I will need caffeine to survive. But you seem to show parenting without caffeine is possible.
@StevoRuns2 жыл бұрын
Hi Walter, now is a great time to quit if that’s what you wanted to do as you will have more energy all day long than when you relied on caffeine. Especially as you will have less sleep with the new little baby, the sleep you do get wants to be of good quality which caffeine destroys. Hope this helps and congratulations with your firstborn 😀

It’s such a shock to the system just stopping suddenly mate. You’ve gone for it now so that’s good and hopefully it will last 2-3 days max but if you need a bit to ease the symptoms then after that you should wean yourself down over the space of a week or two then you will cruise it but as you’ve done 24 hours now, I’d wait to see how tomorrow feels. @StevoRuns Жыл бұрын
Hey, I’ll be completely honest and say I’m having some decaf at the moment purely because I need some warm drinks and any alternative I’ve tried just tasted like shit. I’m having small enough amounts that any symptoms I had have stayed away and if I find they sneak back in then I could easily go to zero again but so far so good. I felt great after 3 weeks and didn’t feel much difference after that but it varies from person to person.

I agree that sugar is the worst of them all but caffeine has a bad side too! It depends how your body copes with it I guess and my headaches definitely originate from the caffeine where a bit of sugar here and there doesn’t give me them. Moderation I guess!

I guess it depends. Many people have fast metabolism and have no issues with caffeine. It doesn’t ruin their sleep (or not that they’ve noticed) and doesn’t cause stomach issues etc but for many more, it does cause issues. Even one cup.
