He explains every video in a language everyone can understand, even takes time to explain the terminology he uses for certain chemical reactions. Also, he talked about how he has a whole technique to make his voice sound as monotonous as possible, and, imo, it makes people stay in the video and not feel like it became boring because he never spiked his tone in any moment, so you watch the whole thing to take out your conclusion/opinion on it and enjoy it.

Him wanting to be an ER doctor makes perfect sense, because it's constantly finding ways to apply your knowledge quickly. He also needs to hire a manager, that way they can have a person they can go to in order to deal with things that aren't Nile.

Tbh, all of this is very inspiring to me, especially at this moment. I've created a company 3 and a half years ago, together with a friend, but during these years I really started to hate both this work and working with that friend, he's still my friend and I still love him, but I never wanted to work with him again. But I couldn't just quit, because I would put him too in a tough spot, the company is not able to run without either of the two of us. So a couple of years ago I did what Nigel did, I started telling him that I would quit in the near future, and to take it into consideration. But he never took it seriously even for a single time, until a couple days ago, when I reached my final breaking point. I think I finally have found the resolve to let it go, and to finally stop making my life a living hell. The sad part about this is that I ended up hating what once I loved to do, I think I'll just take a break for a while and then open a new company in pursuit of what I love to do. I just don't ever want to wake up again in the morning preferring suicide to having to go through my daily routine. I want to enjoy life once again, and not doing something I despise for 16 hours a day, no amount of money is worth my mental sanity.

Im no chemistry scholar or a student of the sciences, but NileRed is one of my favorite channels and honestly people. He puts so much work, time and dedication into every single video that the wait between videos is well worth it. He even figured out what time of day is optimal for recording the narrations for the videos. Hes truly a pioneer because when he says "im not quite sure how to do it" thats because theres no material on it. Why? Hes the only one that takes the time to find the corralation and methods required to make his videos work. His absolute dedication to making sure his viewers get the best quality videos possible, which you would know if you see just how far and how invested he is. not long ago I was literally wasting my life away watching stuff on youtube. I watched pretty much all there was new to watch from the youtube channels I was following and kept looking through suggestions. then I came across a NileRed video that I don't even recall which one was it however like 45-50 mins or so into the video I realised I was 45-50 mins into a video of a creator that i never heard of before. it captivated me so much the time passed and found myself watching NileRed videos hours later. Nigel is so inspirational and just a great person and the projects he does are just not the average too-much-time-on-my-hands kinda creator' video. he actually has a vision and a plan for every single video he releases that simply sounds impossible yet becomes reality once the video comes to an end which is so great. I wish I found his channels way earlier and I wish him the best of luck in all the great work he does

Great interview, and really nice to hear about the struggles of building a thing that traps you, I’m on the other side of building something that got too big, and it sucked to let 18 people go from a company. But I’m much happier now and have the feeling of things being back in the fun stages instead of dealing with so much people management. Hope you can keep things small and sustainable, Nigel seems to have a good vision and isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. Love it.

I've never been very interested in chemistry. There were some mildly interesting experiments back in school, like making artificial flavors, but other than that it just looked like tedious calculations. NileRed manages to make chemistry look interesting without just doing stunts! On one hand it feels like "procedure", like this is what a chemist might be doing in their actual day job, on the other hand it's always a bit of an adventure, mixed with some occasional chaotic humor.

I have three takaways: 1. Nigel is an artist. He’s interested in materials, creation and processing, he’s driven to achieving a unique result that meets his sensibilities, and meet his personal vision, and he’s rooted in experience. He can’t do what he does if he’s not inspired. (Lol just got to the point in the video where he talks about being an artist) 2. It makes sense that Nigel Red & blue & extras are interesting because he’s so interesting! 3. I believe capitalism has sucked the joy out of the material world. Products are cheap and ubiquitous, there’s no value in labor or craft, little creativity, no uniqueness, things quickly break and are replaced and have no history. A lot of the things Nigel says are interesting are outside of that system.

I think that what appeals to Nigel is the same thing that appeals to me about programming/software projects. I don't like pursuing projects anybody can do - and they do get boring once I solve the big problem that's involved, even though actually completing the project is a challenge unto itself. I want to do the undone and/or explore the esoteric or arcane, because the only value to be had from doing something anyone can do is purely self-entertainment, and I can already do that a million different ways, but I have to apply myself and solve unique problems to do things nobody is doing. I don't want to solve coding problems that there's a dozen Stackoverflow posts about, I want to invent new algorithms that have never existed before - so that's what I do as a coder. I totally get Nigel's motivation.

I only started watching Nigel's videos about 2 weeks ago, but I genuinely love all of the content that I've seen of his so far from his really precise and thoroughly planned main channel videos, to his side channel videos that show a little more of his charismatic personality. I also love that during this interview, I found out that he enjoys urbex because while I myself have never done it, The Proper People are one of my favorite KZbin channels for their videography when they visit abandoned places. I'm an artist in my day-to-day career, I don't think I'm probably his typical viewer demographic, and I think my highest level of chemistry knowledge was from an AP chem course I took 10 years ago, but even though I may not understand everything he explains in his videos, he still makes it super easy to follow along and it's overall very entertaining. I really like how he described himself as more of an artist as well because I personally think art can be for everyone and there are so many disciplines that can overlap with art as well. I'm really glad his videos were recommended to me and I appreciate that he was able to re-introduce me to chemistry in a way that is really fun 💙

If nothing else, this made me understand NileRed’s fascination with things that’s otherwise seemed kind of odd to me, like when he’s described doing projects and making seemingly mundane chemicals “just because he wanted to”. His fascination of chemistry and small objects mirrors my interest in guns and small machines. Im also into chemistry as an interest but i have a huge personal problem with focusing on the non-tangible (intricate concepts requaired to mentally sort out chemistry as an activity). Not sure if that makes sense, but Im a visual learner and if i can't visualize it im completely lost. chemistry can be very complicated and intricate with major consequences if you mess up a minute detail, Small moving parts can perform complicated functions despite being ridiculously simple yet genius but at the worst won't work. The way everything in a firearm comes together is like a combination of engineering and art with the danger and taboo, but my brain understands it more naturally than writing in a chemistry text book. I think i could be good at chemistry by shadowing a chemist though. I'm also a big film fan so it sounds like me and him have a whole lot in common

12:02 I've never heard someone express this feeling, that I also have. People often are perplexed at this notion and don't understand that viewpoint. I enjoy fictional story telling but I'd prefer it be fiction that I can either place myself into or is realistic, in the sense that I could imagine this fictional work being non-fiction. In other words, the narrative and characters don't break the laws of the universe and doesn't have events that are PHYSICALLY impossible to happen in the real world. Like sci-fi and fantasy movies just haven't interested me, i cant imagine fantastical beasts and super hero's in my real life, therefore i cant relate or really put myself into the story. I can't follow it because It breaks the rules of the universe. So many physics, narratives, events, and characters, and so on are so fantastical or magical that you just know that could never happen in reality. That makes it extremely hard for me to get invested in the narrative and world building. My favorite genres are true crime, non-fiction, documentaries, historical films, realistic fiction, and (auto)biography's. I'm such a weirdo and outlier for that but I can't imagine myself in a story with Spider Men and Thanos. Like where the fuck do I fit, y'know? Thanos Snap my ass TF out of this movie. Pls n thx. 😊
