I think it has happened to me almost like what happened to you, in fact, those of the training activities, spending more in the kitchen, in domestic cleaning. And yes it has happened to me in the first days that I had a lot of anxiety (more than normal) and I didn't know why, of course my brain was looking for that to distract and also days that I woke up very tired but at the end of the day I felt good about myself . Thank you for sharing your experiences, it is useful to understand better.

I think everyone should give it a try and preferably for a couple of weeks during exam or one month prior to a big deadline. Good Luck!

I had a question about reintroducing some things back into the mix such as video games and light social media usage into your weekly activities without falling back into the trap. How would you go about doing that? Would it be some time limit-based thing that you could probably place on your devices?

I wouldn't do this for a long time. I got into a burnout because I left out the things I enjoy in my daily life. My day was just about work and studying. I thought I was energetic while I was actually running on adrenaline. My doctor told me to reintroduce hobbies and things I enjoy into my day. Reducing social media is not wrong but from time to time it should be ok.
@Crustee0
@Crustee0 Жыл бұрын
Yes total cutout from more stimulating dopamine sources would be a bit ridiculous. If the only dopamine hit we get is from work/study, i think it could spiral to workaholic. I think the goal for this method is to slowly reintroduce things we actually enjoy doing as recreation (music, exercise, reading, etcetc) so we dont get addicted to the dangerous stuff like mindless social media scrolling.

yo i had a question. so at 6:24 you said that our pleasure threshold increases if we perform pleasurable activities and that's why we don't get much pleasure as we used to before in those activities. So is there a way or can there be a way to decrease our pleasure threshold? Like we can decrease the threshold bar and won't it just be known as dopamine detox? If the bar is lowered significantly, it'll benefit us. I'd love to learn more about this from u guys and also the ones from reading this comment!

@@KoiAcademy Yessss that's what I was thinking, but in today's society the atmosphere of "internet" has taken a toll over everyone. Even if we try going off from all social media platforms (Which I am doing from the past 3 months haha, haven't opened anything except mail) I still need updates for my college which come on telegram, so I need my phone to call my friends to ask about them. I can't really find a way to just go "monk mode" and leave all pleasurable activities.

This was quite a different experience as a participant, even though I did the detox for only four days, it was an extremely unique experience. Edit: Day 1 was pretty uneventful. I was still feeling extremely unmotivated, but I decided to go along and complete my regular studies. Surprisingly, it took me way less time to get stuff done, and I did not in fact need music to get into the groove. I was out of home for most of the day to get some practical assignments done, and that kind of kept me busy and off my PC and phone. On day 2, I forgot about the detox and opened youtube in the morning, but a cajun koi video was on my home page and I remembered what I was doing. I set a timer for around fifteen minutes and meditated (Idk why I don't do it normally I just felt the urge to). Then I got out of bed, ate breakfast, and left, for the same assignments (I had to do a survey over roughly four days, which were coincidentally the days I did the detox) Day 3 was hard. Without coffee keeping me awake, I was less active throughout the day and I often caught myself blankly staring at the wall, which is something I don't normally do. Since I still needed my smartphone and PC to study, I asked my brother to study in my room and catch me if I open youtube or anything else for entertainment. One thing I noticed though, was that the small things in life certainly seemed a lot more exciting now, even from public bus rides to eating scrambled eggs. On day 4, I woke up early and exercised a bit because I was sore from the past few days of constant traveling and stuff. Invited my brother to study in my room once again while I converted the survey into my project and wrote a report. After I was done, I submitted it during the afternoon and mine was actually one of the first to get checked. My teacher (whom I have an extremely good relationship with), called me and told me that she had liked my project the most so far and that I had done a very good job (in context, she has been extremely friendly to me from the very beginning, and even helped me get out of depression and also tried to defend me when my artist account got leaked within the school). So I decided to give myself a little treat and watched a few youtube videos before I slept. Surprisingly, I had little to no urge to watch youtube videos the next morning when I woke up and didn't crave coffee as much anymore. I swapped it for tea. I've noticed a significant improvement in my mood and motivation, so I suggest everyone try it at least for three or more days and see if they like it. One thing to note is that you cannot, or should not stay in detox for prolonged periods like a month or so, which might have pretty unintended and harmful effects. In summary, it was difficult and that is why I liked it. Once you develop a tendency to resist, you naturally gain a certain appreciation for many things we take for granted in our daily lives.

What's the difference between the dopamine released on the "cut out" list and "okay to do list"? E.g. is the dopamine released from exercise or a hobby different from gaming? E.g. why do we know that one is better than the other? Is it related to physical energy expenditure?
@tl4637
@tl4637 Жыл бұрын
It's just about what you want your brain to associate with as pleasurable activities. If you want to exercise, read more, meditate. Then having no stimuli, will make it so your brain seeks those activities for their hits of dopamine. But if you don't want to exercise, don't want to study, or read books. Or maybe books are a distraction to you. Then it would obviously have the opposite effect.

really .can you tell me why it doesnt work for an adhd person?
@RavenYoung
@RavenYoung 2 жыл бұрын
@Fatiha mir from what I saw since adhd brains already have faulty dopamine system the dopamine crash would be much worse ( might make more impulsive decisions) and also some people are functional because of their phones like calendar / reminders / alarms so it would make us even less able to accomplish tasks enhancing the feeling of ' failure ' . Maybe this should be used but more on a targeted way like for example if someone has a social media addiction, instead of detoxing from everything, just reducing the harmful ones and also be careful about not replacing the addiction . So balance and structure I guess (But it also depends from person to person)

at around about 9:00, you mentioned about how humans scarily have little control over dopamine. This isn't just true for dopamine though. I've had eczema all my life, and I have improved massively at resisting, but it took me until about 2 years ago (I was 12) or maybe even one year later to get the willpower to resist. Resistance against instinct is something that can often be overlooked and I reckon(although I have no clue how) that it could even be implemented into the routine to practice resistance or, something like that anyway
@KoiAcademy
@KoiAcademy Жыл бұрын
That's a hard ask and not great for the long run because we are designed to prefer comfort over hardship. However, if we incorporate things like goals, tasks and rewards, it will make the act of resisting attractive and easier. What do you think?
@lordrobo
@lordrobo Жыл бұрын
@@KoiAcademyThat’s actually a good way of looking at it, great idea! although for there to be rewards built into the routine that would imply that you give yourself the rewards and have to regulate them yourself, which would be fine for a tora, but as a kitsune I would probably forget it for a couple of days after a while and end up giving up because it wouldn’t seem important. and what kind of task would you be rewarding yourself for? maybe if you have any specific ideas those could be developed? i don’t have any right now but i might come up with one by tomorrow and give a better response.

@@KoiAcademy Actually, I've just thought of one I think I'll remember, at least until it becomes normal. Being confident in a large group of people I don't know very well is hard for me and I don't often do it at all. I don't think it's dopamine I get from not trying to be confident but it's definitely the easy way out. I managed it today at one point, and it was quite draining, so if I were to reward myself for doing that in some way, that could create good habits and I could have less anxiety!

Do you really have to quit music and podcasts because for me that's really a way to calm down and I don't think I would be able to live in complete silence

I noticed you use the SonyXM4s. Do noise cancelling headphones make a big difference in your productivity?
@KoiAcademy

For me yes. I live on a rather busy street and it’s very loud outside with dogs barking, sirens, people screaming. Sometimes I don’t even listen to music, I just have a fireplace sound and noise cancel haha

Serious question to whoever is reading this: How much would you invest in yourself if you could beat procrastination, get rid of all your digital addictions and start taking action towards your dreams? - above or below $500 - above or below $100

The best thing you can do is to take something that stimulates you, like caffeine or if you have adhd take actual meds. Whenever dopamine is high you will not be able to stop doing something, that’s literally what that neurotransmitter is designed for. I studied for 9 hours straight last night on adhd meds and it was definitely hard to stop. Dopamine detox isn’t real, go drink some high doses of L Tyrosine, eat properly, and do exercise. It will help your brain more than you think. Also here’s the big thing; don’t play games, porn, or watch KZbin when you wake up. Do what you have to do first, and only then, play the games and whatever. Because if you start your day with games, you will not feel like doing much afterwards… usually.
