Hi Katy, I appreciate this video and can imagine your community is proud of you for being in a position where you are able to quit your day job to pursue your passion project. As a millennial (4 years into my own career) I do have to say the discussion around influencers quitting day jobs because they dont bring them joy is slightly offputting to new grads. The majority of recent graduates who continue into entry level positions do not enjoy the work that they do, find themselves overworked, undervalued and not fully stimulated. The fact of the matter is there is a reason that you are paid to work a job; and you pay to experience hobbies. There is nothing wrong with your video. But i do feel the need to pass along that the majority of new grads are experiencing all the issues you were without the ability to up and quit. I am excited for you in this new chapter. But as a role model for many young women, It should be important to communicate to your audience the demands of the corporate environment so as to make sure that they do not naively enter into the world expecting to fully be content in their jobs - or quit. Cheers!

Bronwyn Valentine completely agree! I love katy so much but I’m graduating college next year and looked up to how she was working a 9-5 while still having passion projects on the side. Idk I its just disheartening to know that this will never be a choice I have but I’m glad katy has the opportunities she does

Bronwyn Valentine thank you for sharing this. I love Katy & support her 10000%, but I agree lot of people feel stressed, anxious, upset and irritable after being at a demanding, adult job for awhile. It doesn’t mean we can quit. We must do hard things in life! I’m glad you shared this!

Also we have to realize that our bosses and idols also started off doing things they hated before growing into the roles they have now. Some executives have been with their same company for years and love it. Some entrepreneurs don't get their big break til their older and end up using connections they made while at work. Lawyers leave their firms with the clients they've amassed and end up working for themselves. You push paper for a boss you hate but one of your companies clients loves you and you end up landing your dream job via that connection. Life happens in different ways.

M financial stability doesn’t matter if you spend your entire life bored and feeling like you’re in a constant loop everyday. some people want stability and are happy with a 9-5 but i think it’s incredible if more young people desire more from life than that, even if it means they don’t have as much money as someone working a traditional job.

@M well, I work a 40-hour week but it's not truly only 40 hours. Taking in consideration the time to get ready for work, then commuting to work, and the reality of sometimes staying over time or having to take work home is more than 40 hours. I think it's great when people try to achieve their dreams and take risks versus just being safe and taking the usual route that everyone expects them too.

But isn't that a good thing? That every day that passes more and more people can discover their passion through social media or other ways and actually try to pursue their dreams? DID NOT SEE THIS COMING. i have enjoyed ur l’oréal videos but i’m so happy for what’s next for you. you were the first youtuber I ACTUALLY ever subscribed to like 5 years ago. 🖤 edit: after watching the whole video. I hate how difficult this is for youtubers when it shouldn’t be. the reality is no one wants to be in a job that they are miserable in. if you have the opportunity to follow ur dreams you should!!! not only that employers move on in the snap of a finger, her position will be replaced (let’s all remember she works for a million dollar company) she will get to pursuer her dreams, and her past job at l’oréal is going to open a door for someone else to pursue their dream job (her position) 🌿 so proud of you!!!!! also i have a small vlog channel if you wanna be friends :)

Please realize how much privilege you have to be able to quit your job. Yes, we understand that KZbinrs and Instagram Influencers don't like to have a "traditional" job so to speak but in reality that is not feasible for 99% of the population. The rest of us have student loans and bills to pay where we don't make $500 for posting a sponsored instagram photo.

Cannot stand some of these comments, it is unbelievable. I totally understand some of you, being in the same boat, but why put someone down for being able to quit their job? I absolutely hate my job and would love to quit right now, but when I watched this video, I was so happy that Katy is able to do this for herself. Every time someone does something to make themselves happy, there is always other people who hate it. If you haven't noticed, she is incredibly smart and knows there are people out there who cannot do what she does. But all of these comments of "oh well you are actually able to quit your job" or "you're lucky you can do this, I'm suffering at my job and can't do what you're doing" or "you're so privileged to do this" are full of jealousy and anger. A majority of people will not get their dream job right out of school, and a lot will not in their life, but you can work towards it. My mom just got her dream job at 57 years old. Life is not easy and definitely not fair. But stop trying to bring someone else down because you aren't happy. Be happy for her and work towards whatever you want to in your life. Congrats Katy!!

I’m so glad you aren’t quitting just to focus solely on KZbin and social media alone. Starting a business is SO COOL and I think that many of your followers will enjoy that content just as much :) I know I am excited. Yeah you might not be sitting at a desk all day like me but you are still doing real work!!! And not just getting spray tans and going to soul cycle. I admire your courage and am really excited for this new stage in your life ❤️ as a fellow graphic designer I hope one day that I can go fully free lance too 🤞🏼 it is hard being a creative and working in a corporate company I totally get that girl (lol sorry this was so long)

thank you for opening up! it's interesting to see so many youtubers growing up and doing different things this year. i just graduated and i'm spending 24/7 trying to figure my future out and its HARD. there's so many options and it's easy to feel pressured into feeling like you have to have the "perfect" life and career. but anyone not on youtube can probably relate MORE to the fact that life is strange and scary when you're young. i think your choice was empowering and intuitive - something i'd rather look up to than someone who is afraid of being themselves and accepting that they deserve a happy life measured by their OWN standards. ok thats all for my rant good luck love xoxo

9-5 jobs really don't value employees anymore. Employees are overworked and underpaid unless you're part of the lucky 10% that get paid their worth. I would work for myself any day before working for a billion dollar company that just looks at me as another number 💯 Congrats Katy!

This came at an amazing time because next Friday will be my last shift at my job and TECHNICALLY I've left without another job simply because I was unhappy where I was in this toxic workplace. I have ambitions in the works (that have been growing for about a month now) to start my own business and I'm just massively determined to make it work for myself because it's something that I'm so passionate about. I feel your happiness and that weight that's been lifted off your shoulders. I look forward to seeing your videos in the future about entrepreneurship.

I think people need to remember that she has her own creative business now, it's not like she is the typical influencer/ KZbinr. She is consulting and helping other businesses, doing graphic design etc. I'm studying communications right now and we are actually being prepared to be a freelancer if we want to, nothing wrong with that. And after all she's aknowledging that she is lucky, she realises that and I respect that. We don't have to be spiteful because we are maybe not able to make the same decision. Everyone lives a different live, everyone has different privileges and we should encourage each other to be happy!

I am really lucky to find a job that I adore and happy to go every single day so I just wanted everyone to know that having a stable job is not the worst thing ever, although people have different paths! Some people freelance, some people do 9-5, some hustle. Whatever works for yall, but sticking up to something that makes your truly miserable and hate your life may mean that it is time for a change. Love this video Katy and so proud of you!!! I understand your apprehension with this video because I am reading all these comments of people saying how surprised they were because you were so stable and so happy at L’Oréal. But they only see what you show. Nobody shows the struggles or the times they feel like they don’t belong. You may have been stable in your job, but what’s more important is being stable in your self. Life is short. Keep being you Katy, here’s to what’s to come!

I love you Katy! You’re being authentic and prioritizing what’s important in life! I would listen to the podcasts and hear your somber tone. I knew you weren’t truly happy. You couldn’t do it all. Not everyone can do what you’re doing but you show it is a possible reality to be free, happy, and truly alive.

Katy - Wow.. I can relate so much. When I got the notification for this video I felt so happy for you. I am in a similar position with my job and decided to leave because it has become detrimental to my well-being sitting in a desk and looking at a computer screen. However I am not privileged monetarily I am currently a full-time student and had been working at this job as well and I physically can't do it anymore, I was having mental breakdowns at work and I remember telling my boss was so gut-wrenching and terrifying even though he is the best boss ever.... I totally felt exactly what you said, a weight lifted off my body and I no longer felt like I was suffocating. Been reading the comments and I am seeing lots of people complaining but I am an example of someone who can do it and is not extremely privileged in a monetary sense.. I have to move back with my parents once I officially quit & I am privileged to be able to do that, however if you hate your 9-5 job you CAN still quit and get a different job you like. What is stopping you? The fear of not using your degree? The fear of not having a real "Career"? What your family will think and say? Are you going to let fear rule your life?? Essentially, this is what Katy did... Found a different job, she just so happens to already have an "in" or head start in her new job. You might not make as much at whatever job you decide to switch to whether it be a serving job, or working at a day care but the hours are more flexible... So to all of you miserable office workers I have a question: What do you value more, making good money/having "nice things" OR being happy with what your doing? If your answer is money, that is absolutely understandable and I have been there and I placed more value in that for the past 2 years but I eventually got so worn out that it wasn't worth it - why am I wasting time doing something that makes me feel miserable? I feel too young to do that!! So if you said money, sorry but you just have to deal with hating your job since you place more value to monetary value/materialistic things. You can sustain a happy life on a very small amount of money if you budget right.. If you are in a similar place and you actually care about your happiness, you will quit your job like Katy did! So proud of you girl.

You're killing it Katy! I very much so admire you for you taking this chance. I feel similarly to you at the moment, with full time classes, and a bunch of activism I'm doing, and I'm low key dying, but I feel like I can't put the pause on any of it. Workaholic problems. I feel you girl!
