I quit my job and rode my motorcycle to Sturgis! in 2021 I was unable to attend the Sturgis rally in South Dakota sue to a lack of PTO. exactly one year later, I rode my motorcycle 1,500 miles from Ohio to South Dakota to finally experience the famous #Sturgis Rally! I'm of the older generation that believed you have to work for 40 years before you can quit your job and travel. Good for you that you are able to do it while you are still young. I have a number in mind and when my retirement account hits that number, that's when I hit the ejection button and hop on my Indian Challenger and hit the road! Till then I'll just have to be satisfied with my 3 weeks of vacation I can take in the warmer months for my trips.

I am so glad you have a plan to retire and enjoy riding your Indian. Some people are afflicted with work. I lived with a workaholic for a while and had one for a neighbor and the older they get the faster and harder they have to work so it is a progressive thing - like a train starting from a dead stop and rolling down a hill. I hope you guys are just being sensible as a commitment to reach your retirement goals as they can be attainable - the other has no end but can still generate wealth to pass on to loved ones - so all is still good! The only negative side to workaholic activity is the frustration of others helping them and working with string, bailing wire, and duct tape because they are too busy "working" as that is what truly matters to them instead of doing a good proper job that is permanent and lasting. If you choose to not give them a hand at their futility they usually mutter to someone nearby that you are lazy, however that is not the case! Laziness of others becomes a theme of their's. They like to control others as that too is "work". Often in the workplace they are accused of being brown nosers but that is not really how they should be characterized. Their fears of not having anything to work on is lessened if a temporary job is always done, however the workplace requires perfection and they do well, besides there is real work to be done and pseudo jobs are not necessary. The older they get the more they worry about not having anything to do! I find them to be interesting, awesome people who have gained many life experiences along the way. Kudos to you guys! Unfortunately they can only talk to you at any length of time as they are working on something, otherwise they see you as inconsiderate for interfering with their life so it is almost impossible for them to sit down with a neighbor and enjoy a social visit. One time a very nice neighbor came over for a short visit and it was only a few minutes but when the visit was over I only heard comments of displeasure but except for workaholic fidget-working throughout the visit, it was one of the most enjoyable visits I had ever observed! Another bad part is in their very old age they are physically unable to do things - often bed ridden - and are so unhappy they often go on a hunger strike that ends their frustration and misery. I have never seen a workaholic cured of their affliction, but I have never seen one go through any kind of therapy. They do not seek help because they never see themselves as having a problem. Is there any way to help a workaholic cure themselves? I am only sharing my direct observances - I am not a psychologist or anything. Let us pray for them. Amen.

Yes, from Kentucky on south to the Gulf as long as you are not in a big city the people are so nice and friendly. So many snarky, whining, unfriendly, and scared people otherwise. This is while they are in "stranger" mode. I hope they retire to good areas an learn the therapy of good living!

I am really happy for you probably the best decision ever! I went 2020 & 2021. 2020 hauled my bike, 2021 rode by myself from NC over 5000 miles round trip. I am a woman, I ride a Harley Fatboy and I did it alone packed my luggage and camped a week at Pactola Reservoir campground beautiful place. It's quite something, you can't explain the in moment feeling of riding a bike for 1000 miles a day. I learned after the fact about the "Iron Butt" challenge! Ha, c'est la vie I don't need an award! Lol

Hey girl, I met y’all in Sturgis when y’all were hanging out people watching. You mentioned the heat on the way up but seeing it confirms we made the right choice to divert through Colorado from Texas. We already had hotels booked in Grand Island Nebraska that we couldn’t cancel but the heat this year was brutal and it was worth it! Anyway, hopefully next year the temps will be back to normal and don’t forget where I told y’all to look at staying in Spearfish to save money and maximize your days there.

watching this makes me very jealous of you. I have wanted to ride Sturgis for 3 years now, but have yet to be able to. The group I ride with does 1 or 2 long trips normally every year. there is no way to explain the RUSH or FEEL when out there on the open road on the bike. Great video, thanks for allowing us to ride along.

Welcome to the Black Hills. Riding through the heat reminds me of a trip I took in 2003. I met up with 150 Honda VTX riders in Denver. The Cali contingent rode through Death Valley in the middle of the night at 105 degrees. When I rode home after the event Neb and So Dak were bouncing around 109 to 111 degrees. I stopped every 70 to 100 miles to top off the gas, bought two bottles of water. I chugged one bottle. The other got dumped down the back of my leather coat. With the sleeves unzipped it turned it into a swamp cooler for another 70 miles.

I've ridden in those temps before and it is brutal. It takes everything out of me and it's not fun! hats off to the passenger on your traveling mates. It is way harder to ride all day on the back than the front. once your in back there you can't move to stretch your legs or change your butt position. My wife can't do it at 5'10". She rides her own and complains like hell if she has to ride anywhere on the back of mine. Stay safe!

I know you are getting ready for Sturgis again. You did a great video on riding in hot weather (and a year ago was ungodly hot). I'm guessing your cooling system failed since you are seen later jacket less (which you don't normally do). I would love to see a follow up video. Cooling system vs. mesh jacket vs. no jacket vs. riding shirt. You've piled up so many miles in all types of weather that your insight would be great.
