Good for you! Your story is inspiring. At the end of the day, it’s YOUR life and not anyone else’s. Like we’ve learned in Block 1 of Evolve: everything is a decision, and if you make enough decisions in a particular direction you get the end result of an image you set out to accomplish. Your video reminded me of a quote I recently read by James Clear (author of Atomic Habits) "You don't need to predict how everything will play out. Just master the next step and continue moving in the right direction." Go for it! I applaud your decision to LIVE your best life!

I love the honesty and emotional vulnerability. And how it all has a cheerful triumphant tone. You are doing great! 🎉 Seeing you progress is really inspiring me to take things one step at a time with my art. Btw, there is a lot of figure drawings that you showed in your previous video. If I’m not mistaken it was done before you started the Evolve courses. You weren’t crazy about them, but I’d have to disagree and say I thought they were good and had a lot of feeling. I hope all has gone well with your art in the last year. ❤

I just wanna say this video was too real for me haha. I feel like I'm literally your past self right now; living my whole life not having anything I'm good at other than doing good at school, not getting into art because it's such a waste because I'm better at math anyways, etc. The idea of after college just getting a job and retiring early to live my life seemed ideal, but I don't think I realize that doing something like that for years is more draining than you would expect. I remember discovering your channel years ago when you first started drawabox and after losing interest in art for a while rediscovering your channel and seeing how you've progressed makes me feel so guilty - just thinking about where I could've been if I didn't quit! You're a huge impact and inspiration in my life and I'm thinking of having a mini rebinge of your videos and almost replicating your art journey LOL. (Sorry this was long I just felt you're story was so relatable and I really look up to you!)
@Mithrilda3 жыл бұрын
"but I don't think I realize that doing something like that for years is more draining than you would expect." That's exactly how I feel! Part of me feels like a quitter for not doing what I set out to do, but the rest of me says that hey, this isn't a failure, I'm just learning one path that isn't right for me in life and the important thing is to learn from that, not keep making the same mistake just because I spent a long time making it. I feel like every single person wonders where they could be now if only [insert anything], but few of them take that feeling and start working on those things they'd always wanted to. I'm excited for you and I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

I'm 18 & studying physics at university at the moment, I'm done with my first year. All my qualifications from high school are in maths and science, but I don't want to do it anymore. I cannot see myself working in a stem career after uni, I don't fit in at all, I just chose it because I couldn't decide what to do, it seemed a little interesting and mainly it means I'll probably make good money when I'm finished. I used to enjoy writing etc in school and was good at it, and I used to be good at art a little before which I'm getting back into. I can't quit my degree atm because I have absolutely no other options. I haven't watched the video fully yet but I just want to say you're doing the right thing, and I'm excited to see where this takes you. The worst thing I can imagine is to be stuck in a career I don't give a shit about and to regret it for my entire life, if I can make it through uni I'm gonna peruse something more creative, probably art. I'd rather fuck up my life trying than get stuck working in the oil & gas industry or something similar. Good luck, I wish you the best :-)

Right now I'm trying my hands at gesture drawing (yet again good Lord when will I ever move on 😒 ). I want to move past it but I'm just too scared to actually learn the heavy foundation stuff. Just thinking how many foundation skills I need to learn just to draw the art of my dreams makes me shrink and give up again like, how ya'll get started? Do you just sit down and be like "Imma learn this today and do perspective tomorrow and then do composition the day after tomorrow, then shading, etc."
@Mithrilda3 жыл бұрын
Hi William, I definitely know how you feel. I was lost for a long time in art and learning the fundamentals seemed so vast that I never really took a good crack at it, instead staying inside my comfort zone and focusing in making a good result today while sacrificing the education that would help me tomorrow. I think the thing that helped me move forward was finding a resource I believed in and that really resonated with me. When I felt like I was improving and doing something worthwhile, I felt highly motivated to keep going and try my best and the improvement just happened without me even noticing. I'd recommend you seek out a good course or teacher that'll have everything laid out for you so you don't have to question whether you're on the right path so your brainpower can be freed up to just focus on trying your hardest on the learning everyday. This video really helped me, it might be useful to you too! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJXOipapfcZ6Y7c

If there is ever a responsible time to try it, it is now. You have your degree to fall back on if things are not working. If you want to go back you always can.

Have you considered applying for the Adobe fund and/or residency? The fund is an ongoing thing.

Nice!! This is your life, not your parent's or anyone else's. And you only get one shot so do what you love rather than waste away with security. Ill be rooting for you. Some people spend their whole life preparing to live until they're on their death bed.

You are so right, my biggest fear is living inauthentically to myself until it's too late...

I have been following you for a while and wish I had your level of self awareness at that age 😁 Watching this couldn't help thinking ...is this what you really want or is this your "revolution"- freedom, doing exactly the opposite of what your parents didn't allow you to do ( been there, done that, realized the real unconscious motive 10 years later😁). If your parents hadn't constantly said no to art ...now when you can choose anything in the world, would you still choose art?Is art your real passion, everything you're thinking of?Or is a way of showing your parents that they were wrong and you can earn money from art too and finally finding validation from other sources and for something else rather than grades and math?(the validation from this channel, evolve,the art community, getting friends etc?The skills you developed until now will serve you well in life ..the tenacity, determination, analytical skills, working hard to achieve and knowing how to get into that mode and making it happen etc so that part of your life wasn't wasted.I think there is a lot of pressure on young people to figure out what they want and plan their whole life out when they don't even know who they are as a person.Funnily enough life is unexpected so sometimes relaxing and going with the flow for a while isn't a bad idea 😅 You are going to do great in whatever you do so I'd just encourage you to learn how to find the validation within yourself and love the person you are without relying on validation from others be that your parents, friends, art teachers or other people.That is what gives you "the freedom"😁

Hi, thanks a lot for bringing this up. I think it's interesting that you bring up that art is my passion, because I don't think it is, as of right now. Art is something I'm interested in and would love to learn, but I don't think I've found my passion in life yet, but the first step to that is going out and seeing the world and what's even possible out there. I totally agree with the rest of your post and I'm keeping my eyes and heart open to any possibilities that might be out there, and working on my own self confidence of course. Best wishes to you!

Hi @Mithrilda, I have been watching your journey for some time now, I'd like to know what the cost of tuition for the full-time program at The Art Academy? And also can you help me with a fair estimate of rent, I'm from Ghana(Africa) and I'm looking forward to enrolling soon.
@Mithrilda2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You'll have to reach out to Kevin in order to get the tuition costs. Contacting Evolve support should get you in contact with him. I would start with talking with him to see if it's a good fit for you. For rent, I would look at apartments dot com and see what it currently looks like in the area

Have you gone through the Evolve program? It's a very cost effective way to see if the teaching style works for you
@aeli9993 жыл бұрын
Your parents were trying to protect you because making a living as an artist can be difficult. That said, parents can say and do the most horrible things with the absolute best of intentions. They tend to forget that it isn't their life. Wow congratulations on the offer from Kevin. That is fantastic! There is not a thing wrong with deciding, at the end of this "gap" year, that you want to make art your career. There is also nothing wrong with deciding you don't.

Nice if you don't have adult responsibilities. Not hating on this at all but most people cannot just quit a job and do something they want to do. The world is full of people much worse off that have no choice but to have to do things to get buy. It is something of a distorted view on life that people who have things already but think they are not happy cause they cannot do exactly what they want have. Many people simply cannot do this and that is sad.

Art is skill not talent, in today's age and availability of education, talent can't get any further.
