I'm an oil painter, it's my passion and love. Being an artist makes me truly happy. But now I'm also a UX Designer, and even though I enjoy it and I am kind of obsessed with it, I never tell people that I'm a UX Designer, cuz it's not who I am. I think the same goes for you, it's okay to not make our careers our identity. We are more than a job. Wishing the best for you!

@@LindaQueLeenda Agreed, people define others by their careers, and because of that - people end up choosing careers they don't want to choose - just for their social status or perhaps the money. But I think in life that stuff doesn't really matter. Indeed, their jobs don't define who they are inside. That's what matters the most.

Dang! Your experience is exactly what my current journey is. I have been the sole UX Designer for the company and I have been looking for jobs 3 months after landing the job. Educating the PM and stakeholders is absolutely the toughest thing and design only occupies a little room. I have my lows and can’t complain much because of the salary…. But it isn’t always about money. Congrats to your new journey and hopefully my opportunity will come sooner!

It's cool to see how self-aware you are of your own feelings! Something you said really resonated with me.. how your first two years of getting into UX was basically drowning your life with UX only. I feel like I'm in that position right now, I just got my first ever fulltime UX job last week. I'm so grateful to be in this field that I love so much. My life has now been consumed with learning everything about UX, every YT video, every Medium post, every podcast. It was interesting to see your perspective on how it takes over your identity, because that's literally me right now and I don't feel it as negative.

Charli I love your ending thoughts about how grateful and fulfilled you are. I can tell you are a beautiful soul. You are striving to become better and are reaching new goals. I aspire to be like you one day. I’m currently in a rough spot in my career where I dropped out of grad school and thinking of getting into UX. I feel scared and nervous and even when you were describing your feelings of unhappiness in your last position that’s how I felt during grad school. But seeing you overcome these challenges just help me to know it really does get better. So THANK YOU for this video. I will continue to believe in myself and be proud for being brave and trying something new.

I went from graphic designer to UX designer with a bachelors degree in graphic design and a masters in UX design. UX design has to be your passion. If its not your passion the job can become too much and very stressful very fast. You also need think skin, a lot of people will criticize your work, that’s too make the work better. It’s not too Hurt your feeling but to help you come up with a better design. Any job in the design industry is very stressful, having a passion for it helps coup with the stress.

hello! I actually am currently applying to university and I don't know if I should do a graphic design major or just a design major because when I finish I want to do a masters in UX design or product design too so what would you recommend?
@davidnorthrop3744
@davidnorthrop3744 2 жыл бұрын
@@maggieshahine2201, I would recommend getting a degree in design of some sort. If you are going for a masters in UX then you’ll want and need a formal education in graphic design. UX design is rooted in graphic design and uses a lot of design rules that you’ll learn from graphic design. As a graphic design student you’ll also will take a course in UX before you graduate with 4 year degree. When I was in college, my major was graphic design and a part of my education was taking a semester in UX design. That’s really how I was introduced into UX design and found that I really loved it. I then searched for a university that had a master degree program in UX design and I found that a lot of them had a masters program for it. I ultimately choose MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art). I learned a lot about UX design; the course is about 1 year and 3 months long. Their acceptance rate is around 58% I believe, they are selective so you’ll need a strong portfolio. I had a little of graphic design mixed with UX design that made up my portfolio and ultimately got me accepted. Best of luck.

Thank you for sharing your experience and feeling. It is awesome and I totally relate to that. As a senior designer and a lead I feel UX/UI design is a really hard role. It is not only the design. Some company culture can make your work extremely hard and meritless. Designers are often passionate people and they love what they do - this is a double blade sword and can hurt ourselves so much. I often tell myself to detach from what I do hopefully this could be helpful to you. Congrats for the new role. It sounds they have great teams and culture. Good luck.

I have a degree in teaching, and I am working on my masters in instructional design with an emphasis in ux design. I just started, so the only class that I have completed so far is a web design class in html and css. I was wondering if it would be wiser to get a masters in graphic design (which i would be sure to enjoy more than ID studies) with a ux emphasis?

I’m curious about the General Assembly class, I only have a Associate’s degree. I’m looking into deferred tuition, tuition that I can pay back after getting coached for interviewing/job hunting and then getting a time frame to be able to land a job before being made to pay back the tuition monthly, I noticed some popular boot camps require a bachelors to get on this type of tuition payback plan. I would love your advice/feedback. Thank you 🫶🏻.
