But.. What I can't understand is why Mads needed to reverse it.. Isn't it gonna get covered anyways? Does it then matter if the plywood is nice side up or down?
@justinchapin99901Ай бұрын
@@TigRdk because the pattern would have been a mirror image of the shape it needed to be. Wouldn’t fit.

Mads, im a little late for this comment, at least with athena.. but maybe for the next boat, i cant recommend enough the 3M dual lock (heavy duty velco) for headliners.. thats what is used on my boat.. it eliminates screws in the headliner and makes super easy tooless removal to access anything behind them.. looking forward to future cat videos 😅
@realulliАй бұрын
Is that the stuff that has these mushroom shaped heads on both sides? That stuff is awesome, I just don't recommend to use it full area, otherwise you might not be able to get it off again. ;-)
@ashipshowАй бұрын
@realulli yep.. yea, that would be an insane amount.. my boat has little 2 inch squares of it.. probably about like 1 every square foot or so... it's amazing stuff

Hey Mads, the headliners look great. Might I suggest you put a coat of wax on your new miter saw. I live in Florida and the humidity will do havoc on your tools. Alan

Fluid Film lanolin in a can works great.. I use it all over on our boat and it great on tools of all types. Spray on and leave thick or buff it to a dry finish depending on the item. Buffed dry it does not collect dust or grime and water will bead right off.

Hi Mads 👋. I have been a subscriber for many many years and I don’t even own a boat nor will I ever! I watch to learn and be amazed at the innovative ways you solve build problems. You also earn kudos for being humorous (I understand this bc of my Danish heritage)and humble. Also for reliably posting videos even when life gets stressful. Many of the younger influencers flake out at this point for weeks at a time. To you and your lovely wife unit 🥇🏆

Carpenter, cabinet maker, engineer,architect,artist,mechanic, electrician and labourer you do it all. After watching you do everything by yourself without a second person to help out viewers should realize just how difficult things are. One helper can work wonders in terms of making things go so much faster. I certainly appreciate the work you have done having worked on my boats over the years. Good luck and cheers to future adventures
@D-B-CooperАй бұрын
A little tip on scribing, the pattern does not need to be perfect, use a credit card to go around the edge and make pencil marks that you can then transfer to the plywood. You can put a chrome vent cover over the hole in the cabinet. I also use staples on my patterns because they hold better and are easier to use when you are by yourself and you don’t have to scrape the hot glue off when you want to use them again. You can also use Velcro buttons to hold stuff in place while you attach them. You can also use some decorative rope work to hide stuff.

If you find yourself with only a rough blade to work with and you want to avoid tear out, here is what you do. Mark the cut with a pencil. Then, lay a straight edge very, very close to the line. Take a carpet knife and cut the first layer of laminate where the kerf of the blade will cause tear out. The razor cut will absorb the energy and leave the laminate on the plywood after the cut.

@davecisneros5285Ай бұрын
With the "Josh ring" cut in half you could still cover it with vinyl leaving only the one slit. The other slit would still be there and I think even covered in vinyl it would provide enough allowance to go around the pole, leaving just the single cut.

8:04 A matching teak "donut" can be made using drill * router. If its a solid piece of wood, you can split it on the grain, and then glue it around the "josh" pole. The split will disappear in the grain. I've done this using a vise, an endboard, and a hammer. Again, you are just snapping the trim ring in half along the grain, placing it on the pole, and gluing it at the split. You may want to make more than 1, just in case, but I've had perfect results with each piece, only having to lightly sand any standing grain resulting from the split.
@shawnmiller4781Ай бұрын
Avoid splitting the wood by using to pieces but double side tape them together while manufacturing. That was you have a clean split line

Liked. A way to deal with odd shaped junctions, like the joint in the aft cabin. Cut a piece of vinyl the size of a piece of backer rod plus twice the size of an attachment tab. Glue the backer rod to the strip of vinyl and press the 2 tabs together. It gives a flexible cover for joints. Pearson use to use it on their head liners.
@svbarryduckworth628Ай бұрын
You can mount those little flippy latch clips to the side of the hole instead of right above it if there isn't room. A regular adult finger can still reach in an bend sideways to reach it. The finger hole clipies on our Halberg-Rassy Rasmus are all in different orientations in different places and that's the way they came from the factory. It's a little annoying because one needs to memorize each and every one or try the other hand if you forget and use the wrong finger since it is impossible to flip your wrist around 180-degrees to reach the other way if you have short fingers like me. After 8+ years of owning this boat I usually get it right on the first try although there are a few cabinets that I don't use very often so I do need to try the other finger a second time. My wife can twist her hand around and still reach because she has long lady fingers and is hyper mobile with her joints.

Spray the magnets parts with clear Poly spray. It won't affect the hold, nor degrade in the dark, but will keep salt air from corroding anything! 👍✌
