I used to work for Allied Universal. The turn-over rate for Supervisors is ridiculously high. To the point of being literally laughable. Every intelligent person knows you don't waste your time trying to move up in the company. Just come to work, go home, here's your check at the end of the week. If that's all you do, they're no worse than other big security companies.

A coworker abandoned their post after 1am and didn't come back until 4am; drunk, uniform undone, reeked of heavy alcohol and was being hostile and argumentative. He's friends with the Operations Manager, so he faced no consequences. I've been with Allied for almost a decade now and am hastily looking for a new job. Tired of working downtown overnight around crazies anyway.

haha working downtown overnight is the fine part to me its the crappy employees that gets me. Half my night staff would just sleep in their cars the whole night or yeah just be fully intoxicated on shift.

I’m a current employee for Allied Universal & I’m going through a lot of what your going through with Allied & other security companies I started security in 2019 got promoted in 2020 to field supervisor then went back to being a guard up till now until I started working for Allied in 2021 it’s been all down hill the longer I was with them. My situation is I’m trying to get out of one spot there forcing now to stay so it’s all bullshit. 3 years into this field and it’s been all down hill with certain people not being reliable & honest, I’m going back into either the automotive field again or doing driving jobs. Allied Universal only seems to care about having a warm body at a post other than having a reliable human being.

Yeah I'm even thinking about getting my CDL right now haha....I think they care about hiring reliable people but they care more about money and yes the more warm bodies there are especially on the contracts they undercut everyone on pricing it until they can't pay their security officers a living wage...Like the highest paid person at my site besides me and my captain was a 65 yr old who i mentioned covered my sept 1st shift and he only got 11.50/hr. Everyone else was making 10-11. You're not getting reliable people for that little

I scheduled a phone interview with Allied Universal. NO ONE CALLED. The recruiter or manager assigned to interview me for a nice site that pays $20 an hour wasted my time applying online. I need a security guard job desperately. Falling behind with all my bills. I am former Navy and cannot get a job in NY, a state that favors illegal aliens over legal citizens. Thank God I have some cash put aside for a rainy day. QUESTION Why would Allied schedule a phone interview and then never call? I feel that the interviewer does not care as long as he or she has an income. It's not a good impression, honestly.

@@guidofeliz8384 I had a similar experience. The phone interview started and then I heard a different phone ring on their end. The interviewer said they would call me back and never did. I literally just quit this company. I've been reading reviews since and NOTHING good about this company can be said. I received little to no training and before leaving I was told that newcomers would receive even less training. I also experienced being scheduled 12+ hour shifts without notice, I made it clear at orientation I have a teaching job that is priority and they still would schedule to conflict with that job. I do not regret the decision to send in an immediate resignation.

I've sat waiting for my relief and no one showed up and no one called to tell me no one was coming when they knew they weren't. They didn't have the balls to tell me they were fucking me over and forcing me to work a 16-hour shift. They said that someone was coming after I called them 15 minutes after my shift ended. After a couple hours with no one showing up I called them back and told them I knew that no one was coming and that I was leaving my post. I closed up shop and went home. I don't play that crap.

The managers get secret bonus checks if they keep the overtime down. You can put in extra hours one day but they take them away the next by telling you not to come in. But a manager gets extra money for simply making that happen. No extra work done on his part. That's just underhanded, cheap, and dishonest. They let you think you're going to get extra hours (OT) and then take it away.

I said this on another security channel and they talked about allied as well,, when you get your security license dont just limited yourself to companies like this...i worked for a big security company once and all we did was factories i was just sitting behind a desk answering phones..i always wanted to do vip protection so i invested in more trainng..and started working for smaller companies that did temporary contracts i was doing alot of overnight security at construction sites as well as parking lot security for bars and night clubs on weekend's... but jobs like that you have to look for were as companies like allied they will hire anybody to fill there accounts.

I know a guy that worked two 16-hour shifts in one week while with Allied and before the weeks end, they made him take two days off to reduce his O.T. for that week. Needless to say, he was pissed. He was expecting a fat paycheck for the long days he'd worked, and he ended up quitting.

Thing is there is just so many things that can go wrong with an account. District could suck at negotiating and bidding a contract leaving you understaffed and with unqualified people in their position. The management could be nothing more than an empty seat that constantly fouls up scheduling and pay, then the client could also just be awful with unreasonable demands and treating the SPs like 💩 because they believe they are so far superior to rent-a-cops. And we haven't even got to the part of the locals that cause the problems creating a need for security.

Several years ago I worked in a place that had in house security. It was great. Then they decided to go to Universal Security (This of course prior to the merger with Allied Barton). Universal came in and just broke everything. Everything that was good was trashed. Then they took over the interview process for our place and would hire just total moronic clowns that had zero business being there, or people who would work maybe a day or two then quit. It was so horrible that I went from loving where I worked to loathing it. I lasted 3 months after we went contract and bailed. It's hard to find a decent contract security job. A majority of the major companies suck. However, there ARE good security jobs out there. You just have to find them, which is difficult because you either have to know someone, or there are rarely openings because the jobs hold.

I applied for a full time swing shift and now have been doing this part time bullshit job that was never in the description of the job. I was told that when I applied to be a patrol driver that they’re All filled so I got put to be a gate attendant. I didn’t complain because I was homeless at the time but now I’m seeing that they’re using that against me and taking advantage of my situation considering that I was told that they needed more patrol drivers for swing and morning and that they’re understaffed meanwhile I’m seeing new people being trained and schedule for work for full time jobs here And I’m just a fuccin stepping stone for them. I talked to the boss and she said just send me your driving record and we’ll get you scheduled so I’m waiting for that to come in but today I just simply had enough of their bullshit it’s quite obvious they want me to quit by them consistently starring at me when I come in to clock in for work and giggling like school girls and the guy that hired me told me last week he’d talk to me about being a patrol driver Saturday… never was brought up I came in a minute late today and they’re having a field day with that shit but meanwhile other mfs come in late and nothing is being said hell even supervisors came in late for their shift I wanna see when they’re getting written up because I don’t.. A lot of people be dropping like flies here because they get written up for the dumbest things and I was written up for being late prior when I was literally parked outside but nodded off because I have a sleeping disorder but I was still written up. I’m questioning why tf am I still here … but I’m so stubborn and hate letting people think they can get the best out of me but is it worth it ? They’re paying $17 it’s shity and now I’m only doing 5.5 hours and my last check was $399… imagine living off that in California.. They can go straight to hell…

ok I'm starting to think that this industry prays on the homeless! I was homeless when I started working for Allied and I've gotten a handful of homeless people doing security that have reached out to me. They will tell you one thing and give you another. It's not a good company of industry to be in. 100% get out as soon as possible. Amazon or Walmart are always hiring and even though they are evil companies too, but they are less evil than Allied Universal. You have more self autonomy with Walmart and Amazon than Allied because there are more pawns in the security industry. people that the higher ups dont care about. I'd say more than 50% of the security industry are pawns that don't matter to management and it's only like 20-30% for amazon and walmart. What I mean by all that is like moving up. I was promoted with no pay raise in the security field twice...2 times given extra responsibilities with no extra pay. I wasn't making 30k as a site supervisor basically being on call and having to work 16-32 hour shifts. Walmart I've got 1 promotion with 2 raises and I'm easily making 60k and thats before bonuses...If I take the next step to a Coach at Walmart I'm making 6 figures. It's harder than security but all it is in security is being a body and that essentially all it is at Walmart just show up and stay consistent. Then the discount and Walmart's benefits blow Allied's out of the water! not even close Allied doesn't offer shit in comparison

Update: I’m still with this garbage company I’m 10 months in. They renewed the contract with the company/client back in February and we were told that a raise was going to happen, shit still never happened 😂 It’s some urban legend at this point that they need to discuss the pay raise which is just more bullshit. I can totally relate with the fly situation The mosquitoes are a mf to deal with at night and of course our post are dirty af it’s ridiculous especially since we work in a upper class community. Its hard to find a job that pays well so I’m just hoping that we’d get a raise but I’m pretty sure the client only hired them so they can pay us shit. Old ass computers that lag, the gate arms are always malfunctioning, radios are garbage af, it’s a joke The amount of people who quit this job and people they fire for the dumbest shit is astounding. I’m surprised there’s no investigation going on , on why so many people keep leaving. I’m still in transitional housing I can barley afford that, I’m just going to stay until I find something better So not worth my mental health.

Been with Allied going on 3 years. I’m not a supervisor but I’m basically alone at my site and don’t want to give it up. No one really to answer to, just show up, be a good guard for the client so they have nothing to complain about, take breaks and lunch when I feel like it, no one breathing down my neck, one of the highest paid contracts in my area, not too dangerous. The few times there’s been an error with being paid correctly it’s been taken care of. Obviously security officers need to get paid better overall, but we all go in knowing that. I generally do not talk about previous employers, they all have good and bad. I retired after 20 years of being a corrections officer and have worked security since at a couple hospitals and then most recently Allied and I definitely would not recommend working for them. There is no good thing to be said about the experience I had there. Folks wouldnt show up for shifts or would chronically show up late and nothing would be done, but if you were never late and never called in somehow you were the problem The benefits are non existent, the pay is goofy at best depending on the site you work, but most of all if you a a good person, show up, do your job, you are not appreciated and given a chance to go to better paying sites, or in my case, they offer you one but then say you have to pay to work there by paying for your fingerprints and security licence which is a thing in Illinois, but they do not tell you that BEFORE you have to get those things, they just give you a bill to sign. That was the end for me. Gave my 2 weeks and left. Manipulation, it seems, is this company's modus operandi

All of the security companies try every year to out bid each other so your pay was/is low anyway. You don’t get raises unless the company you work for cuts into there profits to give you one. Not all companies are bad to work for look for a mom and pop company they need you not want you. I currently work as an armed guard that’s were I have seen the money is going and they can’t get rid of you because you have 40 hours of training and no one to replace you with. I have never worked for Allied Universal Security company but I heard there horrible from other guards. If you get the right company then it’s a rewarding job if not your getting paid minimum wage and doing 20 peoples jobs with overtime. I love security but your right something has to change.

As a former Site Manager for Allied.. I cant attest to a couple things. The pay not being right is COMPLETLY your site manager's job. So that's on him. The Emails not being answered that's completely true. Its months before you get a answer to anything. As for the pay issue. I spent 99.9999% of my time talking to the client and Allied to get my guys raises. I would get a raise approved on say January 1st. January 2nd I would start working on another raise. That's the way is HAS to be or you get paid shit. If you have a good Site Manager this job can be something you can do dare I say even enjoyable. You NEED a good crew and a motivated Site manager.
@LoversAnonymousMusic
@LoversAnonymousMusic 11 ай бұрын
its the site supervisors that deal with the pay the only thing the site manager did with the time sheets was fax them to the main office and the site supervisors or the client manager would enter it in manually...every site was different in the Richmond area or the few I knew of at least. you had to call in your time on one and the call and write in a log at the other but this one was just a written timesheet .
@ericsmith3733
@ericsmith3733 10 ай бұрын
Yes, Then there's a program called Winteam the site managers enter the time into and that effects your pay. As for every site being different thats not good......LOL@@LoversAnonymousMusic

I work at Walmart now and it is less of a monopoly than Allied Universal! Literally the next largest security company in size is Securitas and it is a quarter of the size of Allied AND THAT is only if you include the 57 other countries Securitas is in. Walmart may have some questionable practices but it has left room for competition. I mean there is Kroger, HEB, Whole Foods, Albertsons, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Target. I don't think people in the security industry could even name more than 3 or 4 security companies that are current not linked or owned by AU....Allied Universal CRUSHES its competition! It's sad how we all had to find out the hard way about this company. I met some great people and coworkers but management was no good. I also feel for him because he seems like one of the good ones who might be valued by another company but he seems so discouraged. I'd recommend going armed for a small company. That's what I did and though no company is perfect, they really work with me as far a scheduling and time off. They have fired about 10 people in 3 months and we're a company of about 30 guards including supervisors and the 1 field supervisor (sergeant) we have. Even with that I have very few complaints compared with big companies. I've been working security for 7yrs and I'm on my 4th security company. This career becomes what you make of it. If truly interested, invest in training, gear, and certifications. Yes it will almost all come out of your pocket but you can make a livable wage if you have leverage. There are lot of lazy, complacent guards in this industry, so it's not hard to stand out. Just a thought

They pay you as a Supervisor to get with your client to get the things you need fixed, fixed. Them scheduling you that many hours is ridiculous and against the law for one. Not all companies are bad. Some do put their people first. I think advocating for higher wages with clients has direct impact on the type of people you get as officers and increases moral. At some point you need to tell the customer what they are going to get at minimum wage, verse expectations. People will immediately seek higher wages at this pay . High turnover, no show no call, the loyalty isn’t there. Just like the company has no loyalty in their people, it’s a two way street and both need to be satisfied. The going rate in my region is 20-25 an hour paid to the Officer not billed. I understand the frustration and needing to express grievances. The only thing I would suggest is avoid the middle fingers at the end even if the sentiment is clear.

I started working as a guard in 92. Worked average 100 hour weeks, at $5.00 an hour. Armed guard $5.95 hour. Is what it is. I worked for a company that didn't pay on payday and took a year to get my last check. Training? I made the best of every post I could, just deal with it.

i did deal with it...and if what I'm hearing is correct you chose to work the 100hr a week...i was forced to work 32 hours straight, that is a big difference.

Sometimes you have to walk away, it will definitely get someone's attention. I did that on a Saturday morning when my relief didn't come , no surprise, 18 janitors stood around for 5 hours till someone came with keys to let them in. I didn't hear a peep from management.

No where near that. Very few people make above $15/hr and you're looking as low as $9 in some states.

@@LoversAnonymousMusic I don't understand US is richest nation why in whole North America pay rates are pebbles? Am regretting moving to Canada. Thing I noticed management/admin level jobs in US, Canada, Australia wages are pretty similar not much difference. But security guard, gas station clerk, retail, delivery driver, warehouse packers these unskilled labor jobs Australia pays way better than North America. I think here these top position people making good bonuses by paying us pebbles.

@@spawn11 oh yeah no most of the US is a third world country. it is just funny the level of pay jump for positions. such a hierarchy to keep people beneath the company's boot. The company pays it's guards 25k-50k at best per year and pay a few people in each area 6 figures just so the owner and stock holders can take home 7 and 8 figures respectively each year haha

I see your in FL(former FL resident). If you're able to, get your G License as well if you have a clean background. D license will help you get your foot in the door. However unarmed Security work is going to have you doing a lot of "other" job duties that has nothing to do with Security. That's why I say get your G as well. Stay away from Allied Universal and Securitas.

@@jim2268 As someone that worked Security armed and unarmed jobs for close to 9yrs apply to those jobs when you get your G-license regardless of your experience. 98% of the time your firearm is going to sit in your holster unless you're extremely reckless. Take a class (MOAB) that focuses on defusing tense situations. It will do you a lot of good in the long run vs how quickly you can draw and how accurately you shoot your firearm. 95% of armed Security is basically being a scarecrow or a cardboard Napoleon. The moment you discharge your firearm whether it's justified or not, the company will attempt to drop you like a hot potato and look for anyway to accuse you of not following company policy. So yeah, focus heavily on your verbal Judo skills. If you like Security as a career focus on getting on board with the Federal Security contractors. 2 companies I know of in FL are Paragon and Triple Canopy.
