1. If you're staying in the Tokyo area, don't get a JR Pass, you'll more than likely end up paying more than you need. But if you're planning to go far often, or plan to use the Shinkansen, then definitely consider it. You can also find a calculator to figure out how much public transportation with be for you and if it's cheaper to go with or without the JR Pass 2. If you have an iPhone, add the Suica card to your wallet. You can add funds to the card without having to go to a machine or convenience store. I'm not sure if other phones do this. If you already have a Suica card, you can also transfer your remaining funds over to your digital one 3. Use Google maps to help with taking the train/bus. Almost everything is color coded and numbered. I've been to Japan 4 times, and there has only been one time where a sign misled me haha 4. Instead of getting pocket wifi or getting a sim card, esim is much easier. There are even some apps available for download, so you can have it ready before you even leave for your destination 5. I wouldn't recommend pocket translators. Most are very expensive when you can just use the Google translator and speak to your phone where it'll translate for you & vice versa. May not be 100% translated, but it gets the message across 6. You should try wearing hakama next time. I've worn both, and hakama doesn't feel as constricting as tranditional kimono

Umum about the Suica Card, I go about 1-2 times a year so is it worth getting? Do I need a Japanese phone number or anything to get one? And can I get a physical version of it? ;w; Im super sorry for the bother and the many questions ! !

I personally think Suica cards are worth it because you can use them for the bus, the train and even at convenient stores and can be reloaded when you’re low on funds. It’s easier than having to always buy a ticket at the train stations because you just tap the card (or phone if you have it digitally) and it automatically calculates and charges you when you exit the station. You don’t need a Japanese phone number either. I’m from California and I still have my Suica card in my iPhone wallet when I plan to visit Japan again in the future. And you should be able to get a physical card at the stations or convenience stores

I was in an internship abroad for my university from May to July in Tokyo. It was definitely super duper fun to travel around Japan for the two months as well as work at a Japanese startup company. I totally agree that everything can be overwhelming but I'm super glad that you got the most out of the trip. Japan is such an amazing country and it is wonderful that we all get to share this experience via youtube, wherever we are in the world.
