Let’s just say it’s not a bad idea to change your sense of style over the years but I do respect all types of styles of fashion. I want to say I dressed up in the most fashionable clothes but it wasn’t bad either, Plus one of my favourite fashion senses was when I bought a Black leather jacket with purple on the shoulders and back of the jacket. I wanna talk about that, everyone has their own fashion sense that they love.

in middle school i decided it’d be a GREAT idea to cut my own bangs it was not, they came out completely uneven, my mom was so upset because it had perfectly suitable jet black hair that she loved that i had just ruined, and the process to grow those darn things back out to a normal length was a living hell. would not recommend UNLESS you get them professionally cut and you know how to manage bangs (which i did not) 🤦🏻♀️

Thank-you for sharing this, Hono. Up front, my cringey young phases: 1. Anime Nerd in the 1990s - Today, I still think anime from that era is still the best. 😋 I still do enjoy independent comics from friends. 2. Airplane Nerd for Life - Today, it helped me build a career in technology. 3. Talks Too Much - I still do, but I do it to communicate detail that my team and fellows need to attend and learn from. I teach from this. Reflecting; I am now in my middle age, but I do remember in my youth having to understand and create my genuine identity as well as struggling with being comfortable with myself against the pressures of others. You are correct to state that people who say you won't be liked for being you are quite incorrect, and that when you move on, so do the people who had once judged you. As for your key takeaway; I started to learn be comfortable with my genuine self apart from the judgement of others when I started to understand how much of myself I was giving away. In my 30s, I realized how little of myself was left for me. I was paying too high a price to be what others wanted me to be. Reflecting on what you've shared in my current age; Being Liked For Being You - Is that some of the stuff that I was prior afraid would make me unlikeable or people commented on (quirky sense of humor, speaks too long, slow) were actually the best parts of me (can create rich and creative narratives, able to give detail, thoughtful). These came to be because I learned to share these with people with whom I could be safe and truly loved and supported as my genuine self. Moving On - People will come and go in your life. And people will always judge, but you don't have to accept or subscribe to their judgement and point of view. You have the choice to say no. The people you want to value and hold close are those who, as above, truly love and support your genuine self and help you realize the true parts of you are the best parts of you. It Continues - I feel in the 39 years I have lived, living with yourself and forming your own genuine identity will always be a continuous part of life. You will look back on all parts of your life and feel that twinge, but do be thankful and forgiving of your younger self. Sometimes, your younger self helped you understand something very important to you that has helped you in the now and future.

7:45 This actually genuinely made me feel happy, I always constantly got bullied in every way possible by different people at different schools for being expressive and energetic and asking too many questions and it really starts to hurt when people do that :( I’ve never really cared too much about that or shown that I cared and continue to dress how I want and I’m so glad I have such amazing friends I can be entirely entirely open with and heck it I’ll still wear my handmade bright yellow cape who cares? But it still hurts and I’ve had some rough times and even now in a very accepting and diverse school there are still judgmental people who need something to complain about. And having been bullied so frequently so often so badly it really impacted my mental health, but when you said that that did make me realize that I don’t have to separate myself from myself like I had been thinking about recently (like my persona in a way). That particular line just really made me feel happy so I’m glad

Given where I grew up and the neighborhood is resided in, my dress and appearance made me a complete outsider to the other kids. While many wore very baggy clothing, sagging pants, qestuonable t shirt designed, and so forth. My mom would literally give me that look all mothers give and have me change or fix myself up. Hated that due to me wanting to fit in and not be bullied because I didn't dress nor acted like them. Yet, as I got older and figured a style that fit me personally made me appreciate why she did that to me. Also don't worry, I was heavily big into anime and Japanese culture when I learned that many of the shows I enjoyed as a kid were that and living in the city im from exposed me to many different cultures (especially Japan). Now I wished I never had my friend comment about me being the male version of Integra Hellsing that didn't smoke.

ALL OF MY FRIEND ARE FASHIONABLE AND PRETTY WEARING CASUAL ATTIRE (we used to wear school uniform and no make up allowed, so everyone has a huge glow up during college) meanwhile, here i am looks like potato. I used to believe about natural beauty is the best, but now i should take care of my body better (Skincare but still not expert in makeup) Peer pressure and mom pressure lol. My girl friends get prettier and I'm getting insecure befriending them. My classmates (boy) used to bullied me (mentally, not physically) because I'm the ugliest in the class, but then they stop. (Maybe because I ignored them, or maybe because my father just got passed away that year, so they are feeling sorry)My mother doesn't care how I look before during high school. But now I'm adult and has a breakout, suddenly she told me that I'm ugly😭😭 tell me to exercise and buy me new facewash. I'm normally pretty decent at cutting my hair, I've learned how mostly from watching my sister. The only hairstyle I really regret was in fifth grade, I decided to get a "Bob cut". My family is super religious and most of my relatives dress like they're 90s housewives. I got a hair cut that went right above my shoulders, and made me look like I had an overgrown bowl cut. And not only that, but in fifth grade I wore what consisted of a poka-dot jacket, leggings and rain boots. I definitely have progressed, now I have relatively short and fluffy hair.

never had a emo phase but what i did have was a tomboy phase. so i was pretty young had 2 siblings both older a sister and a brother- both were not feminine and teased me for being feminine. along with my constant bullying bc having glasses makes you ugly and nerdy i felt like i needed to change myself. so what i did was i simply started hating what i loved, cute things, pink, bunnies, skirts, ect. i was so annoyed when i had to wear dresses when deep down i was happy and self conscious that my siblings or classmates would laugh at me. in the end i am still self conscious when i wear skirts but im getting better! funny thing is the thing that got me to become feminine again was another thing i was teased for- anime and even though i have cringy memories i still love that it made me back to who i am 😅

2:54 honestly I don't think there is anything wrong with watching anime because for me I also loved Naruto and honestly I was too quiet in middle school nobody actually knew anything about me 😅 but anyways I'm sorry you went through that when you were in middle school

Oh girl I feel you! I also had that nerdy/emo phase. My favorite outfit was purple checkered skinny jeans, red converse, a Spider-Man t-shirt, a Finn hat (like from adventure time) and those thick hot topic rubber bracelets (normally with an anime reference on them). It was ROUGH 💀💀

i had 2 pairs of black baggy pants that i wore with a chain on it but the next day i would wear colorful shirts that said "awesome" and "im already tired tommorow" or some meme on it. they were all hand me downs tho

oh boy...i had a cringey late elementary school/middle school phase too. i hadn't watched anime at the time in forever (my oldest brother and i loved to watch it together when i was a little kid in the early 2010s - yes i do remember some teens at the time having scene phases and thought they were awesome) once i got back into it i would randomly start speaking japanese in school and it was just...super cringey looking back at it, and i'm shocked i didn't get bullied. but my brother introduced my to yu yu hakusho when i was going into middle school. we binged 8 episodes in one night and it rocked :D then all throughout middle school i started bringing manga to school, wearing animal ears, anime shirts (i cover them up with a sweater now), etc. those years i did get bullied cause 90% of my classmates knew i was a "weeb". sometimes i wish i could go back to 6th grade though where i had no shame in expressing my hobbies TvT
