I think it's funny despite being the most hated of the Fire/Fighting Starters, Emboar far surpasses the other two in terms of Shiny. Also Quackwell and Torchic are the only Shinies in their Evos done completely right.

So part of this is because for gens 2-4 they used a program which based the ahiny's off the base color. Which is why so many of them are green. Gen 5 was a partial thing where they went out of their way to actively do the shiny's for some (but not all) instead of using the program for it. Gen 6 on they started doing it for all of them. The sole pre Gen 5 exception is Charizard who was purple. Got changed to black in Gen 3 due to some of the staff split the difference with a purple tinted black in 4 before they went fuck it all in on the black. Aka Charizard favoritism eternal.

​​@@Iinneus we do know gen 6 is where they truly had to have them be handmade because 3dmodels do that. The auto shiny colors for gen 2 to 5 is a common yet unconfirmed theory( also have no idea where they got some 5 handmade i have never heard this suggested by any one ever) and finally the charizard thing is something about merch but truthfully it's kinda doubtful. Also lockstin has a great video on this very topic.(BTW love your vidéos linneus)

As someone who's colourblind, some of the shinies that got the low ranking absolutely deserve it. I will never understand why some shiny colour palettes are just a slight brightness increase that few can distinguish from one another - and colourblind people can't distinguish at ALL -, instead of a full-blown palette swap. And before the whole "well it's old pokemon it wasn't a big thing then" argument gets thrown at me: counterargument, Shiny Gyarados.

Funny story; my very first time playing Gold version I picked Chicorita and it was the shinny version of it. But way back in the 90s we didn't fully know or understand what shinnys were. Leveled that boy up to a Meganium and beat the post game with him too. So in my brain, shinny Meganium looks like the normal one, and normal Meganium looks shinny! 😂
