The Battlefield franchise, one of the greatest FPS series ever created, has been around for 20+ years now. In this video, I ranked every single Battlefield game in the history of the franchise into a Tier List. We’re looking at the whole package here: single player, multi player, graphics, and fun level.
This video serves as both a historical look at the franchise, attempting to tell the story of the history of Battlefield games, as well as giving my own personal opinion on which games were incredible and which ones missed the mark. Soon we'll be able to add Battlefield6 to this list!

Over a year later, after 1.4M views and reading 5.5K comments, here's how I'd change the list after some reflection: - I was too harsh on BFV, especially after experiencing the dumpster fire of early BF2042. I'd move it up at least 1 tier, maybe even 2. I think it could potentially fit in the A tier. - I'd move both BF1 and BF BC2 up to S tier. These were both on the fence when I created the video and after revisiting each, I think they deserve to be bumped up a tier. - Hardline gets a lot of hate but I honestly really enjoyed it, I'd probably keep it in the B tier. - WOW I overestimated how good BF2042 would be 😂 Hopefully it has a redemption arc similar to BF4 or BFV

You were right 1 year ago... BF5 don`t deserve up tiers because of agenda at least. BF1 is not so good as BF3 and BF4, and A-tier is her exact place. 2042 is C-tier or D-tier, I guess.

Battlefield 4 and battlefield 1 will forever have a special place in the heart for md. BF4 is what made me really fall in love with battlefield. Battlefield 1 was such a great game. The gameplay was smooth, the graphics were great, the maps were good. Playing as calvarly was awesome for the first time ever. Sniping was crisp. The behemoth and other special vehicles that the losing team would get to try to make a comeback made the gameplay much better and more chaotic. I also do like battlefield 5. Had a hard start but its a pretty solid game now.

One of the big reasons why Battlefield 1 gets held in such high regard is because it was the first Battlefield game for many people. Battlefield 1 introduced a lot of new people to the franchise.

If battlefield 1 came out today, it would still blow us out of the water. That game was years ahead of its time. The soundtrack was beautiful, the gameplay was on another level of smooth, the graphics are still better than 2042 graphics, and the feel of the game was just right. Pure chaos was truly nailed on that one. S tier right next to 3

I don’t think you remember that hardcore battlefield fans WANTED a modern shooter. Which is why despite the gameplay of 1 and 5 nobody will care or remember them like they do for 4 and 3. 3 was the best bf by a mile its not even close. Its almost a consensus among the community

Nevertheless its difficult to choose from bf3-4-1, I consider them all top games with each having its pros and cons

Battlefield 3 changed my life back then. This game is the pinnacle perfection. I remembered playing 2 days in a row Operation metro on 1250 servers were every round lasts for like an hour.

Battlefield 3 is hands down the most fun after Bad Company 2 . Metro was so classic but it had so many amazing maps like (Damavand Peak) the one you half to jump down and parachute down half way thru map and the beach invasion map (Kharg Island).... omg i could go on all day the maps where so awesome. Also what happened to all the destructive environments they got weaker with each game.

BF2 Modern Combat has a special place in my heart. Waking up in the mornings to my dad playing the game. Him letting me play while we take turns each life. I have very very fond memories of it and wish I could experience it the age I am now.

The context for why that is matters tho. People were extremely upset about all the futuristic cod games at the time and after infinity warfare received the most dislikes of any game trailer on KZbin, battlefield pulled the genius move to release a game set in WW1 with perfect timing. Without all of this happening it wouldn’t have gone as viral.

Because if you're comparing these games all relatively it's still worse than the top games. Revolutionary for it's time doesn't mean it still holds up today. Pong was revolutionary for it's time, and I wouldn't really put Pong high in the tier list of games that entertain me.

Many fond memories with friends in BF2, bad company 1-2, and then especially 3. 3 was stunning when it came out, it felt like nothing that had ever come before it and really showed how games were reaching a new level of realism. I would personally put Battlefield 1 in S tier. It felt so fresh and looked amazing when it came out. And the setting in WWI is something we've pretty much never seen before, the graphics were great, the war stories really great. I have fond memories playing it with my friends. Might just be personal preference, but I would give it an S tier for sure. Also, I played a lot of BF5 as well, and think it was a great game, despite coming out shortly after BF1, so I can see why it wasn't received as good. But for me it was still a great game.

I can see why you would put BF1 in S tier, and I agree with all your points, especially since it was radically different from what CoD was doing which was a stroke of genius on their part. I think it’s A tier because tbh the novelty wore off after a while. It was and still is a great game, but I find the modern games like BF4 to be more replayable.

Battlefield Heroes was one if the best games ever made. It was bonkers. You could sit on plane wings shooting at people. You had multiple classes and hundreds of customisation, different maps and modes.

I've played since BC2, all ranks are respectable. I would say is BF1 conquest was the most immersed mode I've ever played. The whistles going off after a successful push. The terror of the juggernauts and mass chaos they caused. The flamethrowers inside of bunkers hearing the screams of your teammates, knowing you can't help them and have to reposition. The heads shot sound. And the team aspect of planes and big tanks could cause a problem too. It has no tier but other then S+. You also have to remember that COD was in jetpacks and I think halo 4 too. No BRs or anything, so to have that masterpiece at that time was truly something even to this day.

Definitely agree. BF1942 should at least be A tier, if not S tier. What a revolutionary game it was! I remember trying to play through dial-up and then having to revert to bots. I could only really play online when I'd go to the local LAN center where they had that dripping T1 connection. What great memories that game holds.

Bf5 has a super fun mutiplayer, only complaint is the respect mechanic. Could take a bazooka to the face and get revived a sec later. In other titles, stuff like that wouldn’t happen. Only way to truly stop a revive is to knife someone. Should be in the A tier tho, still super fun and great graphics and gameplay

Honestly I would love a BF2 or 2142 remaster on the frostbite engine. The biggest downsides those games have are due to the old engine. I know for sure were they to come out nowadays they’d blow the other games out of the water

Definitely agree that BF3 + BF4 is probably the best games in the franchise. One of the things I liked about 2042 was being able to play those old maps like Arica harbour or Caspian border, really nostalgic and a lot of fun! A shame you can't really play those maps much or browse servers...wtf

Imo BF1 is S-tier. Operations mode is probably the best modes I've ever seen if you get a good team. Music is top notch. I'd argue that the French DLC maps are possibly some of the best DLC maps of all time. Mechanically, it improves a lot from Battlefield 4 such as vaulting height and adding a really balanced slide mechanic. Vehicle variety is pretty huge. You have balloons, Zepplins, fighters, intercepters, bombers, heavy bombers, destroyers, heavy warships, torpedo boats, transport vehicles, Light Tanks, Tanks, Assault Tanks, Heavy Tanks, Superheavy Tanks, Horses, Armored trains, Artillary Trucks, Gun trucks, and then that's not even mentioning stationary weapons. The lack of customization kinda sucks but isn't really a huge setback considering we wouldn't really have much to customize with. Yeah, sure, maybe foregrips and sights. That's about it, though BFV actually features several improvements to BF1's movement mechanics (except the slide, whata downgrade lol) and included weapon types and mechanics that I really enjoyed using. They wouldn't fix their fucking bipods which was part of their problem. MMGs, Anti-material rifles, etc are all solid imo. That's all then discounted by the fact that multiplayer is generally a let-down due to dev behavior (i.e, TTK changes, team balancing), generally poor map design, and modes like Grand Operations just not being good.

Plagued my parents for some weeks until they gave in at got it for me on black friday. It nearly was the only game I played until BF1 got released 3 years later, and a little beyond that. Cant believe its almost 8 years ago now, I remember watching my older brother playing BC2 and BF3 when it got released. Metro, firestorm, caspian border, and damavand peak in rush where the whole team base jumped off a cliff. Damn, wish I had those experiences as well, only got to play BC2 and BF3 a little until I got the PS4, so I feel you brother.

While you wouldn’t see any average soldier using them in WW1, the optics are modelled after the Gibbs Magnifying sight which was specifically designed for the Lee Enfield and saw service, limited as it may be, in World War I.

I was an avid bot player for BF Vietnam back in the day (Parents didnt want "Online games" for fear of other players hacking the network) and I would consider BF:V to actually have pretty competent bots. The whole "Dropping out of a helicopter at random" is only when they go over a neutral or enemy capture point. They use the heli for transport, fly over, bail out and try cap the point, which I thought was super cool. It also got MASSIVE points for me by enabling the Bots to follow your commands issued by your function keys. Spawning in a map, yelling "Follow me!" and getting 5-6 bots to reply, and actually follow you around, even into vehicles, was incredible. I would spend hours getting a couple bots to join me in transport helis so they can use the mounted MGs in the side while I fly them around, and just watch them hoover up kills.

Actually I agree with BC2 in A tier, but i'd put BF4 in tier A too and only leave BF3 on tier S. BF3 today still have the most impressive audio, 2012 graphics still impressive. Gameplay still fresh. The DLCs really are different, characteristic and good (o miss so much Close Quarters and Armored Kill), the base maps are also good. BF4 has problematic DLCs and worse audio, environment details such as almost every ground feel so "soft" and less realistic.. BC2 has mechanics, gameplay, and graphics that haven't aged well. Remembering that A tier is a very good classification.

Be ready to rage and die a lot, a, lot. It took me 50 hrs to get used to bf1. Just make sure not to keep changing class one after another. Play medic if you're new, or support. Hardline would’ve been good as a BF4 DLC there was no vehical gameplay, no Battlefield moments, bad campaign, and too many glitches and expliots like a motercycle driving on the wall of a circular room while shooting. Overall it heavily lacked content, had a terrible release, was neglected, and had a terrible campaign and an ok MP. And now there is a total of 28 players who play the game on one server on PC in the world. Honestly, the game could’ve been good as a BF4 DLC or if it felt more like a Battlefield game or just released under a different title.

Really miss the Commander position. Brought the teamwork to the next level, and putting the artillery on the map as a destructible asset gave the spec ops classes a real purpose.

BF3. Absolutely perfect from the marketing to my last time playing. The hype on the engine upgrades alone was so popular. Kids today don't know the milestone leaps developers for video games have pulled off the last 30 years, and BF3 is one of the milestones.

No pls dont ruin this game. The current gameplay style is too fast and stupid with non stop slides and weird costumisation, it would just butcher this old Classic gem. Last Battlefield to have Teamplay. If you want to play it l suggest checking the Project Reality free mod, its still going strong

When BF2 first came out the blackhawk was so over powered that everyone would run past the attack chopper to get in the blackhawk. That was so awesome!

@@atodamadre3197 the original audience aged out. BF1942 back in the day was S-tier EASILY. It was an incredible game with crazy mechanics and incredible open world combat. it was revolutionary.

Great job Patty. On my own list, I’d probably take 1943, BC1, and BC2, and move each one tier up. Those three are the golden years of BF for me personally as a console player. 1943 really pushed BF into the console space, and it was really a perfect ‘mini’ BF more so than Heroes or any of the F2P offerings. BC1 was revolutionary by introducing Rush mode and Frostbite. And BC2 is my personal favorite. Then I’d probably knock BF4 down just a hair to A tier, since I don’t think it quite reached the feel of BF3.

I have the PC Gamer Magazine for BF3. It was the only game I ever preordered. I played the beta and some of my longest ongoing friendships were started there. Say what you will about the decision to use battlelog to launch the game, because lord knows I have, but the forums were legit. This was at the height of the brony craze, and the biggest thread, having tens of thousands of pages, was about ponies. Mods tried to ban the discusion of MLP in any form for a time, but the backlash was pretty big, and they ended up making an official MLP page lol. When the game launched, I was one of those monsters in the Su-25/A-10 who could stop an entire armoured advance on any rush map. Caspian was notable, once having 63-0 in a platoon match. I used to be pretty good in tanks. On Seine Crossing, I could drive down the streets like a machine on autopilot. I didn't have to look where I was going if reversing, so I had every corner covered. When the canister shell was broken and you could fire it an an he round together, I was unstoppable. Especially with the TUGS on the tank. Good times. Oh and the SKS+ACOG+Heavy Barrel was god mode. I bought my second rifle right after the game launch, a Yugo SKS for 275. And BF3 was a bit of an influence on that decision.

The multiplayer was one of the best ever, it legit felt like you at the war because how good the graphics and sound were at the time. I remember me and my boy would stay up all night playing it

@@hezshot964 omg the sound. One of the most memorable moments was a fight in the metro in a corridor, both teams pushed, it was like a 20 min fight, rockets flying over my head, grenades exploding all the time, as a medic I revived like 50 times. And we won. So fucking awesome.

Absolutely agree with you, BF4 the only thing that it never replicated from BF3 were the maps. When it first came out, me and my friends saw 8-10 maps and scratched are heads cause some were just dire. To keep replaying The game we just went on 24/7 servers of 3 maps only. I’m in my 20’s now though and don’t have time to play so maybe I’m biased, but I thought the gameplay was dropping ever since BF3. I did play the beta for BF1 and that was the final straw, didn’t give me confidence to buy the games, despite what people say now😂

Battlefield : Bad Company 2 was such a blast for me. The multiplayer probably wouldn't hold up as well compared to Battlefield games nowadays, but I adore the campaign with all of its loveable characters and mission locations. If Dice and EA ever do start making a Bad Company 3, I wouldn't be too opposed to them focusing entirely on the campaign and the multiplayer is just an added bonus, as long as they get the story and characters right.
