Years ago at a Green Jelly show I actually got to be an on-stage member of the "punk rock puppet show" and got the set list signed by Bill Manspeaker. My biggest regret is not having my Carnage cartridge with me to get signed as well. well, maybe not biggest, but large nonetheless. It was at ElCorazon in seattle, and I was the green alien thingy. @@ostiariusalpha For sure, but it is an excellent beat'em up in all other respects. Move variation, rhythm, graphics, music, story, bosses, and all the icing on the cake stuff ( like cut scenes swiped right from the source material and secret rooms) make Maxium Carnage a stronger example of the genre than any other beat'em up I can think of on SNES. Seperation Anxiety made it co-op, but it downgraded all the rest to get it there.
@ostiariusalpha
@ostiariusalpha 4 жыл бұрын
@@krislachowski Stronger examples of the genre on the SNES would be King of Dragons and the magnum opus that is Turtles in Time.
@krislachowski
@krislachowski 4 жыл бұрын
@@ostiariusalpha The story of Turtles in Time is objectively weaker. It being a sequel by default makes the enemies largely derivative and repetitive, but the co-op aspect definitely gives it a huge bump up and coupling that with great graphics, rich fandom, good feel to the combat and a number of other fun subjective things Turtles in Time is definitely a contender for best SNES brawler, but I still think Maximum Carnage is better. It might have to do with me being an only child and multiplayer not being as important to me, or maybe just the snazzy red cart. King of Dragons is a fun improvement on Golden Axe, but I slightly prefer Knights of the Round which is definitely not as good as Turtles in Time or Maximum Carnage 😉. Btw I am so pleased to be having a meaningless "argument" about video games rather than politics, thank you for indulging me.

I remember on Royal Rumble, when you were playing with a friend, if you got in a grapple and were losing the button-mash, you just had to hold the opposite direction on the d-pad and the energy would go right back down to neutral. It became nearly impossible to execute any moves on each other, so we would make a "pact" that we would NOT TOUCH the d-pad in a grapple...Of course, when you're losing it was tempting, and yelling fights would result...Good memories!!

That head nod at the beginning of the video is very comforting. John is letting us know he's aware what is in store... Maybe I'm hating but as a huge X-men fan Arcade's Revenge was the only SNES offering while Genesis had the super rad X-Men, then X-Men 2 Clone Wars. Mutant Apocalypse for SNES had killer graphics but it still wasn't ideal. The Genesis gameplay was a little more melee friendly. So tragic the X-Men arcade was never ported to SNES or the characters even updated to prime 1991-1992 years. I was a mega Gambit fan and his levels in Arcade's Revenge were so brutally difficult. Also thanks John for spotting Remy's last name is wrong! Beaudreaux is his wife's name from the Assassin's Guild, duh LJN.

I know everyone loves Maximum Carnage but to me I think the biggest problem it has other than no 2 player support is the lack of moves. If you look at Streets of Rage 2 which came 2 years before Each character has roughly 5 moves and they also can use weapons. You may argue that you can pick up supports but that gets old really fast, it would have been better if you could switch into them temporarily. Anyways that’s my rant, it could have been a lot better and awesome list once again Riggs!

"Who's raging?" Adamantium Rage isn't the worst tag line for a Wolverine game. After all, one of his early (X-Men #96) defining traits was that he'd go into a "berserker rage". I mean, they totally stole it from Conan comics, but it's an accepted part of his character.

Arcade's Revenge has its issues, but if you really commit to learn its mechanics, it's somewhat enjoyable. No two heroes play the same, and the use of the license isn't all that satisfying, but I enjoyed it enough to get good enough to beat it, which wasn't easy. You may say the control feels weird, but all of the characters were responsive, which is more than I can say for some other games.

There were Terminator 2 games. There were 2 games based on the same movie by LJN for the Super Nintendo. But they're both different, because one of them, T2: The Arcade Game, is based on the arcade game, which itself based on the 1991 Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day is based on the 1991 movie of the same name.

I bought the x-men game at a flea market and I actually like it. I remember playing it way back in the day with my friends, i didn't realize I had bought the same game. And that's my voucher.

Heh, I always thought throwing everyone out in a Royal Rumble as fast as you can is just boring. I mean trying it just to see if you can do it, and how quickly is fun for a few times (I did it a few). But against the computer, I ALWAYS tried to keep the guy I start with up to the very end, sometimes I'd get 13-15 minute matches, and other wrestlers would last almost as long. I really miss that game.......

This is far better than I thought it would be. I can say this, I have never been a wrestling fan. However, one of my childhood friends was a mega wrestling fan and...I can't remember which one or two of the three he had but man did we have fun with it. For some reason I thought chucking people out of the ring was so damn funny that I would spend most matches tossing as many as I could.

I love Super Nintendo I especially like when new games get translated into English. We never would have a chance to play without the hard work of the people doing the translations just released supershell monster 2 in english

Another great video. It’s interesting that the music of a game is so important to you. It’s not a deal breaker for me but we’re all different. Have you thought about doing Lucas Arts John? Konami games on the SNES would be a good (and long) video.

Maximum Carnage is a really good game. Even better playing co-op. You said the game is “good,” yet you gave it a C, which by the grading scale, C is average, B is good.

Wow! LJN isn't quite as bad as I thought, John! I appreciate your honesty in your videos and how you don't give all these games F's despite what most people think of LJN. Just don't forget Taito for the NES please. I hope you get to that one eventually (no rush though...I've really enjoyed your SNES videos!)

Spot on with the ratings. Its hard for me not to rate Royal Rumble and Raw higher. They weren't great games, but I played them SO much. If my list was based on how much enjoyment I got out of them, Raw would get an A and Royal Rumble would be a solid B+ or A-.
