Wow, I'm glad I clicked this in my youtube recs. Interesting premise for a series and really well researched and edited. Your channel's gonna be huge, you deserve a ton of subscribers for a video like this!

the influence of this book club is similar to booktok, like what books are "bestsellers"/popular now usually

Oprah's book club definitely had (and still does) a huge impact on the publishing and reading world that's for sure!

I’m glad I found your series! I saw an Oprah book club recommendation on my library app and was so curious about why she chooses the books and what impact it has. I stumbled upon your video while looking it up. This is exactly what I was hoping to find! lol. I just subscribed! Eagerly awaiting your next video!

I saw another comment say this, but I am also glad this appeared in my recommended, because now I am a proud subscriber. I looked at the list of books and tbqh nothing is jumping out at me/ have heard of except for the three ones you covered in this video (which I've heard of) and The Water Dancer, by Ta-Nehisi Coates, which is very on my TBR. But would still watch your videos about all of those books, lol. As for reading, I only read Corrections, a looooong time ago and I kind of loved it, it is pretty masterfully written. But honestly, I'm pretty tired of the plight of the middle class midwestern American family, I've read too many of those and I'm not even American. His Freedom was also great though, and I read it immediately after I ended a 7-year relationship, so it was very right time sort of read. I'm gonna watch some of your older videos now, hope it's okay if I comment on them, maybe!

Thank you so much! I’d love for you to comment on them ☺️✨ The water dancer sounds like such a beautiful book. I can’t wait to eventually get to it!

What a great series concept. I’ve read quite a few Oprah picks and they’re usually interesting. One of her earlier picks that I really loved is “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle” by David Wroblewski. It is a retelling of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” set in rural Wisconsin. Edgar is a mute boy who, after his father dies, runs away from home but then returns, hoping to prove his suspicions that his father was murdered. The story is also about dogs and the main dog character is named “Almondine” and I’ve never forgotten her. It’s a fabulous book! The only book I’ve read that you mentioned in this video is “My Dark Vanessa” and boy, what a ride and a half! I can’t say I enjoyed it but I absolutely couldn’t put it down either!!! I was shattered when I finished reading it! I did learn things from it though so I’m glad I read it overall. I gave it 5*****! Enjoyed your vid and look forward to the next in this series! Thank you, from Barbara

Thank you so much for your comment! My Dark Vanessa was definitely a tough read! But I couldn't put it down either! Your description of the Wroblewski book really makes me want to read it asap! I have a few videos for this series in the works for April so maybe I might have to slip it in now! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! :)

Since you read both Lolita and My Dark Vanessa, please advise me which one I should read. Both are TBRs but I think I will need to allow some distance between each story. That is, if the first doesn’t traumatize me too much. Good luck with your channel. I subscribed and look forward to more.

Thank you so much! That means a lot! ☺✨ I would probably recommend reading Lolita first because there are some references in My Dark Vanessa to it and sometimes it's in conversation with Lolita, so the knowledge of Lolita and what happens in that book was helpful (at least for me) when reading MDV. Good luck with them both--they're definitely both hard reads ☺

Oh wow thank you! I'd love that! I'm not too sure how to set up a read along but I plan to read and film the Gilead series by Marilynne Robinson in the first week of April. I'm trying to be more active on Instagram and plan to post on there as well while reading those books if you're interested! 🥰✨

I really liked A Millions Little Pieces, however when I found out it wasn’t a memoir it ruined it. It felt like the whole thing was a huge lie to get sales.
