anyone LIKE the second half of Wuthering Heights? please explain D:
@sawyerburns73872 жыл бұрын
For me, the second half holds up to the first. I think it really shows how inescapable the cycle of abuse is, which was one of the main themes of the book, is. It's dark, and it's heartbreaking, and it shows just how haunting grief can be. The first half exists to show the making of two "despicable" people, and the second exists to show how Heathcliff goes on to spread those ideas to the next generation.

Wow, Emma Watson, Brown-educated gal who's literary tastes are way more trad than I would have expected. Good on you, girl! Thanks to Kira, though, for doing the heavy lifting of reading & reviewing these novels and making me excited to read them (I Capture the Castle & Remains of the Day, especially).

Well I do know about the B.F.G movie from being a kid, and wuthering heights the song. Maybe you've just got to think of the B.F.G as a quick, easy read for really young kids, like a bedtime story maybe. I was actually an "only fools" fan way back then and I never realized it was voiced by David Jason lol. Also, funny you don't like wuthering heights because for years that was the only Kate Bush song I knew but didn't like, mostly because of her high voice though but for the last 5-10 years I *do* like that song as well as other Kate bush songs, maybe the book will grow on *you* to.

Around here I'm currently reading "Strong Motion" by Jonathan Franzen. It was written in the 90's and worthwhile. It's almost a page turner except when it isn't. Does that make any sense? My next read will be an anthropologist's book concerning my wife's parents. She's reading it and learning stuff about them that she didn't know. I knew them but way past their prime. A poet and a writer of stories, novels and anything else he could write so he never had to have a job to go to. Time for breakfast!! See you next video!

"It's almost a page turner except when it isn't." i feel like this about majority of the books i read! wow, your wife's parents sound quite interesting!!

@@kirawasadiver Her mother was Ruth Lechlitner, a poet. There's a video here of a reading of Lines For An Abortionists Office that she wrote in the 30's I think. My wife is 13 years older than I am and her parents were over 40 when she was born so much of what they wrote and did was way back.

I'm just the opposite. I only enjoy non-fiction and have to work in a fiction book on occasion. This was such a great idea for a video! BTW "Just Kids" is one of my favorite books of all time. Reading about things that really happened blow my mind more than something that can be made up. Patti meeting Allen Ginsberg when he tried to pick her up for example.
@kirawasadiver2 жыл бұрын
yes the Allen Ginsberg moment did wow me haha. i wish i could love non-fiction - teach me your ways! i'll keep trying non-fiction & hope one day a pick sticks. out of curiosity, is there a fiction book you really like?

@@kirawasadiver I absolutely love Tom Robbins. Interesting characters (including inanimate ones), use of language...you'll find yourself learning about perfume making, belly dancing, religion... My 2 favorites are "Skinny Legs and All" and "Evrn Cowgirls Get the Blues"! Happy reading! I really love your channel.
