just to clarify, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike for TV/Streaming/Theatrical contracts! the writer's guild is the one that reached a tentative agreement with their own union, which is completely separate from the actor's union's strike and negotiations. they will, however, go back into negotiations Monday October 2nd! thank you for being supportive of actors and their strike!
@movingforwardLDTH
@movingforwardLDTH Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Writers’ strike is off (although the membership hasn’t yet voted to accept/reject the contract, the last step). Actors (& others covered by SAG-AFTRA) still on strike, but the parties are restarting negotiations n Monday. (It was the companies who previously refused to return to the table.)

I think what they mean is that, traditionally Ireland is painted as a melancholic country and also has a century long history of cultural opression (also The Troubles) which kind of leads to country wide collective trauma which often gets dealt with through stories. Irish people (and Northern Europeans for that matter) are also known to be very humble and don’t take praise very well contrary to for example the general American. Margot Robbie in the other hand is Australian, a country, at least to my knowledge, famous for the adventures and happiness etc. I would say it fits that Robbie would read the happy go lucky flowery books and Murphy reads the “let’s wretch my heart” books. (This is just what I would say, but I am from neither of those countries so pls correct me if I’m wrong) Edit bc I did indeed realizes that Margot Robbie is Australian. Also my knowledge of Australian culture is limited so pls add on your thoughts :))

@clara_hp6254 I'm from Australia which I is why I was wondering what OP meant. I don't think that any of Margot's picks reflect our culture. For example to Kill a Mockingbird is very American, the Hobbit has nothing to do with us, and neither do any of the other books.

About Dune. Princess Irulans epigraphs are from her later writings when Paul „Muad’Dib“ pretty much became a religious figure. As for their function, I always thought that they meant to show how the universe saw Paul and the difference between reality and propaganda. Oftentimes what she writes doesn’t / didn’t quite happen that way and Paul himself is no hero, even though he's being worshipped like a deity. Additionally, like Paul, the reader knows what's gonna happen (in a way) but isn’t able to stop it
@videodonna5594
@videodonna5594 Жыл бұрын
Yes exactly! And the story isn’t meant to be suspenseful it’s meant to be “historical”, when you study history you already know what happens (or what the government has decided the story of what happened is) so like knowing the end, that Paul becomes a major figure isn’t a spoiler it’s why you’re studying him at all
@MissCaraMint
@MissCaraMint Жыл бұрын
@@videodonna5594 Yes. it reminds me a lot of those historical fiction books about real historical characters. You know where it is going. I'm here for Enid Blyton books. Her books shaped my middle school period! I remember devouring 'Famous Five' book series and 'The Secret Seven' series. My librarian during my 6th grade would not let anyone read any other books until we finished these series. This book was my gateway to detective books. I LOVE them. I do not remember any names, or even incidents, like you said, I remember only the feeling. I even forgot about these books. You mentioning them, it just GOD brought back all the memories. Love Margot for putting this out there, LOVE YOU for beautifully explaining the exact feeling that I share. I definitely am going to give a re-read. Aw! Lots of nostalgia bubbling, I can already see me enjoying them in the near future again! Thanks bud! You are AWESOME!

Our copies are falling apart and some pages have been munched on by termites because we got them at a street side bookstore in India, but we tape them up and keep reading. Cillian not only just stared in Small Things like These (whicb finally gotna distributor!) but he's so filmed an adaptation of Shy! The author Max Porter wrote the screenplay and wrote it to take place from the POV of Steve, one of the teachers at the school, so I'm interested to see how it goes!

picking the old man and the sea over dune is such an INSANE take to me 😆 although I couldn't have expected anything else from Jack when dune is brought up. I feel the same way about Hemingway that he does for Herbert

SAG-AFTRA actor here! As a heads up it's only the writers that reached an agreement. us actors are still waiting for our meeting. BUT it's totally not crossing a picket line to talk about movies that have come out! promotion and marketing are considered work under acting contracts (cause it IS work) so it would only be a problem if you are a SAG actor getting paid to promote a film produced by a company under the AMPTP. i know it can all be confusing but the unions have not called for any boycotts nor asked people to not talk about projects that are coming out so you're totally in the clear! love your vids jack

Just spat my soup out laughing when you said “arguing about a book that is all about magical sand” hahahahah, I haven’t read Dune, but that’s definitely a sign it’s not for me 😂

Both actors have great tastes. Loved Enid Blyton books as well. They were like a special treat when I was younger. Speaking as a black person I dont always see the white saviour theme in books. I think you have to look at the time when it was written. Who could have exposed such injustice? There were black writers but would they have gotten the same attention as Harper Lee? I'm just saying lets not all put such books in the same barrel or stop demonizing the white saviour theme because looking at our history we needed some saving and I'm sure my ancesters didnt care where it was coming from. Just my thoughts.

Today, as I was wasting time, I realized I hadn't watched any Jack Edwards in a while and how I would be upset missing any of your main channel content. It felt nice to see your post.I really enjoyed watching it as usual. Love you❤
