I read the series a few years ago when I was writing my master's thesis (degree in international politics no less). I needed something lighthearted, easy to read and this fit the bill. I laughed so much at the "worldbuilding" and I hated America as well. Maxon, I don't know him. Their daughter was insufferable but I did like Erik too. It was fun to see you go through it because that was me once upon a time lol I just want to let you know that there are even a couple of novellas from this series if you ever feel like revisiting this trauma.

I would have loved it if selection was just hunger games in terms of killing each other in the competition. That'd have been something to see especially the stakes would be higher and somehow if winning was really important for the characters. I always described those books if the bachelor and hunger games were combined (I only read the first hunger games though). I remember at the time I read them (at 17) I just kept reading cause I wanted to know who married Maxon, because for some reason I liked his character? (Apparently the me of nine years ago had bad taste). But remember just hating the books and thinking they were ridiculous. I posted this on a comment on your instagram post - but I ended up rereading the first book to write an essay about how much I hated it for my English 12 book report. And we had to make a physical element to go with it and I made a Selection monopoly board. But yeah, good on you for somehow getting through it all
