Great vid Shaun and tidy old job. So much easier when it’s an annual Reno rather than a one off. Out of interest, I saw you aerated first before scarifying this time - was the a reason behind that or just how you unloaded the van 😂😂

Ha ha. Eagle eyed 😁. For 20 years I've always scarified then aerated to leave the aeration holes exposed for seeds and it's a good plan. I still do it that way sometimes. However I've seen it done the other way with success so thought I'd try it and turns out it is OK in most cases

I seen your Bannerman drop spreader and though "ideal" As I'm on the look out for a new compost spreader. As mine is a bit knackered now and I don't really like filling the drum every two minutes. Then I seen the price of them (£1170) and thought " perhaps my current spreader isn't so bad after all" I'm surprised you never / appear to, cut the grass before you started and used fleece if there is a bird problem? Still. As I've said many times. Each to there own. 👍

Hi yeah it's a great piece of kit. Handy on the large jobs for sure. The grass was already quite short. I normally cut it if its maybe over an inch and I think it might tear. I will start fleecing more when the weather's bad like it had been earlier in May

Hi shaun. Hope you and family are well. Long time subscriber 1st time poster. Kudos to all the vids . Full of very useful info . Hints tips and tricks and love the wee doggies. Sooooo. I'm just getting around to renovating my lawn. Being in central scotland weve not had the best weather to do anything regarding the garden . Storms and heavy wind and rain from last Sept. I've bordered it all off and from lowest to highest point of soil needed is just under 6" to bring it up (ive ordered 3 tonne for 70 m 2 and neighbour has some if I've not got enough).. anywho while tilling the soil my other neighbour (who I don't get along with) has 2 over 100ft conifer trees and the roots are coming through (on one side of the garden /around 8 ft in length in most directions). Is this a major barrier to get a decent lawn. Lawn is north facing and heavy clay. I literally bought gypsum while typing this. Thanks and looking forward to new vids 😎

Morning I have a customer in a similar situation. Your issues will be that the tree might shade areas but alos that it will definitely absorb any moisture in the root vicinity/under the canopy of the branches. So it's almost always going to go Brown and dry and thin out. It'll need forking regularly and additional watering in those areas. Wetting agents will help but you can see how things go.. You've def got a job on.. Good luck!

So satisfying seeing the thatch come out. 😅 I plan to do my own back garden but will stepping on newly germinated grass harm it when walking on it to water? I manage to hand spray my renovated front lawn without stepping on it. I have a lot of trees so I'm not sure if a sprinkler would work very well but I've never used one though. I know I'm asking a lot of questions recently on your posts and videos, sorry about that, I'm just really interested in learning about caring for my grass and garden.

Hi completely and totally fine 😊. That's what I'm here for. If there's no other choice then step on it.. But really lift feet up and try not to walk on wet bits as it'll lift up and stick to your shoes. Also carry and ljft the hose so it doesnt drag the seeds

Great lawn, obviously well cared for. Can you do a follow up vid in 8 to 10 weeks? Also, do you give huge discounts to the annual regular customers? I do. My annuals get about 50% because they are hooked and realize that annually it's much easier and quicker and recovery is faster. Easier on me also. Rather than 1200 lbs of thatch, I get 300 lbs. Cheers my Brit coworker!

Do you think the long term changes in our weather patterns due to global warming will affect and change the times of the year that lawn rennovations are able to be carried out? Our summers now seem to be a lot wetter than they used to and we dont get the scorching dry heat that were typical of British summer months in fact last years school summer holiday months June to September were a complete washout and already this year May were hottest and wettest ever recorded some places seeing a months worth of rainfall in a day. So do you forsee any changes in the dates normally applied for lawn rennovations?

Great video as always! A couple of questions: 1) How big is that yard and how many bags of top soil did you use? I’ve been using online calculators to estimate my 3,000 SF yard and it’s coming to 77 bags at 0.75 Cubic feet each bag but I think that’s overkill. 2) Would it be ok to aerate 2-3 weeks prior to seeding or should it be done same day? I was hoping to split up some of the work over a couple of weekends. Thanks!
@LawnRight
@LawnRight 7 ай бұрын
Hi it does depend on the bag size and the thickness being applied. With regular compost I'm getting about 10 square yards per 40 litre bag. I used about 30 bags of compost on this lawn, sorry can't remember the size so that's about 1200 litres so about 240 sq metres (about 300 sq yard). As for aerating you can do that although if possible I'd try an dod it as close to the surface ending work as possible

Hi.. Excuse the obvious question but is the stripe just that.. A stripe.. From the mower laying down stripes? Even if you don't have a roller on the mower some mowers still stripe a bit, like my stihl 248.. The only other thing is it is likely something happened when applying the fert.. And in that case I'd apply a liquid as you say, just on the lighter stripes.. Hope you get sorted 👍👍

First of all great job, always enjoy your videos. I’m in a very similar situation to this customer with clay soil here in Lincolnshire. Hi shaun, I think i have come to the conclusion that i want to kill my lawn off and restart over, maybe next spring now, But my question is i have a couple of cameila shrubs a rhododendron in the bordor but close to the lawn so without doubt roots would run under the lawn, but also a thing type of japenese tree that flowers in summer has dark green leaves that turn pink in autumn that is kind of planted in the lawn with a circular border around it, my question is if i spray roundup on my lawn do i risk hurting these, as it would be devastating to kill them.
@LawnRight
@LawnRight 7 ай бұрын
Honestly I can't 100% say yes or no. I can confidently say I've never had an issue.. I always apply roundup on a dry day.. So it's only touching the grass then dries.. Then as I see.. It works done through to the roots.. I'd imagine if it rained heavily after it potentially it could get washed depe into the soil. An alternative may be or use boiling water on any delicate areas like this
@SuperChalkster
@SuperChalkster 7 ай бұрын
@@LawnRight ok, thanks for the reply. maybe i go to a safe distance to them but dig the rest. best to be safe as like i said would be devastating as the shrubs are possibly older then me. im just sick of all the weed grass in my lawn. and according to plant net app most of the original is bermuda grass and to me it looks horrid alongside fescues and rye. before i got obsessive over my lawn i would of said my lawn looks nice. my partners father said it looked really healthy and asked what ive done to it, but i have ocd and i want my lawn to look like one of dan hibberts, lol. just dont think i can ever achieve that without starting over. but obviously dont want to kill anything precious along the way
