It has been pointed out to me that I was mistaken about the PSVR requiring a PS4 Pro. After a quick Google search, I think my confusion arose from there being some extra port or something on the back of the PS4 Pro that is specifically intended for the PSVR, but which is not present on the original PS4 models. I probably read this years ago, and mistakenly thought that the PSVR wouldn't work with the original PS4 because the original PS4 lacked that special port. As said in the video, I never owned an original PSVR, so it was moot for me whether the PSVR ran on PS4 or only PS4 Pro, and I never bothered to research it more. The larger point, that the PSVR had a lot of cables, and was cumbersome to setup, is still valid. But I apologize for the misinformation. I strive to be factually accurate in all the content that I create, but I'm still only human, and make mistakes. Thanks to those who pointed out the error.

The only differences in ports are that the Pro has an additional USB port in the back and that the Slim has no optical audio output. Other than that, all three models have the same I/O.

Nah today's flatscreen gaming are trash. I would rather have a ps2 era games in vr like Resident Evil 4. VR hasn't really been dying for 5 straight years now. Is just that is slowly growing through Meta Quest and more people try vr with good games really liked it. I tried like 8 of the pvp vr shooting games and they both have very healthy userbase online most of the 24 hours per day. The technology of vr/ar at this point is more of a hidden gem that is very powerful but kept secretive that not a lot of people had tried yet

The psvr2 has no technical limitations that would prevent playing games at pc levels, this is because the psvr2 doesnt process or power anything, its like saying your tv cant handle big games because its a few years old lol! The limitations come from the ps5 hardware which people seem to forget is aging now and is the technical equivilent of a pc running a 3 generation old 2070. Its a weak console when compared to high end pc specs and project wingman and green hell (two of the worst games you couldve invested in fyi) were poorly optimised games on pc that required rigs far above the recomended spec to brute force the game to run acceptably! The chances of a ps5 running those at full tilt were always remote! Im no sony fan but your assumption that psvr2 would be back compatible without doing any due dilligence before buying old games was on you, so was buying project wingman without first checking if it supported your flight stick! I suggest doing some research on games before you buy them, maybe check a review or two so you dont buy terrible games that have awful review scores and then judge your system off of them! There are some amazing games on psvr2 but excluding gt7 and resi you seem to have artfully avoided every single one of them! The saints and sinners games, metro, into the radius, demeo, arizona 1 and 2, moss 1 and 2 the list is endless and yet here you are playing kayak vr, project wingman and green hell as if youre doing a wirlwind tour of the worst vr games available on the console!

Yep. And the toddle LOVED getting his hands on a video game controller. We bought him toy controllers, but he knew the difference, and wanted the real things. Eventually, my compromise was to give him an old, broken PS3 controller. It looked enough like the PS4 controller, that he was content to play with that whenever I was playing the PS4. But if I played the PS5, with the white controllers, he wanted nothing to do with the black PS3 controller. It was "other PS5 controller, or bust" for him.

I bought a used PSVR2 for PC VR, I'm just really hoping the haptics and eye tracking carry over. Right now the adapter experience isn't great, still pretty buggy, even with all the correct Bluetooth adapters and settings. For now the quest 3 is just more seamless, I don't wanna spend half of my free time troubleshooting.

the be real gt7 was the reason a lot of folks were waiting for vr2 it is the killer game for vr2 imo. also it was said when released multiple times it doesnt play vr1 games, and in the store itself. bc those work but you need a vr1, i dont think thats a huge problem as its cheap asf now lol. if you have a pc just get the adaptor, ik use it on my ps5 and my pc as it looks better than my index altough the controllers arent as good, but you can use the index ones with the vr2. the sad truth is as much as i like vr, it still a niche market. too many mobile bs games vs good triple aaa games. if you love sim racing it perfect aside for that synapse,gt7, az1 and 2, half life, metro, pistol whip and few others are the best. also a wheel vs motion steering is way better, its not even close. a used g29, would be a good start, i have a full fanatec setup, which is way higher but the i starter with the logis.

Hey man great video! I’ve been an owner for about half a year. I have many of the same concerns you hold about its relevance in the future. Vr is the breath of fresh air I needed in this hobby of ours and I hope it starts to really thrive next year because of all the new sales. Sadly vr is already a hard sell for many people as you have to really experience it to believe it like you mentioned. The general gaming audience often scoffs at vr announcements arguing it takes away devs from developing flat games. This kind of discourse has already flooded Alien: Rogue Incursion, Metro Awakening and the quest 3 Batman game. I think that this sentiment will continue for at the very least a phew years if not longer and by that time the ps6 will be rolling out and the psvr2 generation will be coming to a close. (Although we might receive another lengthy cross-gen cycle like early on in the ps5 generation). I am going to assume that we will be able to hook up the psvr2 to the ps6 but I don’t expect any first party support past the ps5 for this device. I do expect we get third party support for a very long time since quest standalone devices are still trying to catch up with the ps4 performance wise. This means that the psvr2 won't be the lowest common denominator for a very long time. We'll have to wait and see. Sony has been ramping up the marketing for the psvr2 (although its nowhere near enough imo), it has gotten more presence at State of Plays compared to before, the Ps Blog is still very active regarding psvr2 games. I think that we can make better predictions regarding its first party support somewhere next year.

I'm super excited for aliens out in December and what i really want is skyrim in psv2 😅 Ps5 shook my gaming world this yr in jun, on Aug when I got the psv2 for GT7. That changed how i viewed Playstation after leaving them in 2016 for PC. I've been a Playstation consumer/ gamer since a child lol. I've owned from pS1 to now PS5, PS5 shocked me on the screen and then VR. The best part of the PS5 experience is when I tried Fortnite and BO6 on keyboard and mouse .. .. I mean like what if the holy hell dude.. why are there not more developers allowing Mouse and Keyboard on the PS5 with their games 0.o The PS5 for me is a game changer, I own a PC, but damn... just on the slim variant 120 is locked... Thanks for the correction regarding PSVR compatibility with original PS4 models. I think I was confused because the PS4 maybe has some extra port on the back that is intended for use with the PSVR, but the original PS4 lacked this port. @@NintenPizza They wouldn’t be able to get the OLED and HDR working with Pancake lenses. Pancake lenses eat up significantly more light than Fresnel lenses. If they do make a revision it would probably be some kind of psvr2 “pro” model as they’ll have to use Micro-OLED like on the Apple Vision Pro to get it working (and yet still the psvr2 has the edge over the AVP when it comes to light output).. or they’ll have to drop OLED/HDR entirely… which is very unlikely. Tbh I would actually dig a pro model though.

@sarahwhite7098Күн бұрын
It's an unsolveable problem. PSVR2 will always be smaller than the PS5 install base (obviously). History tells us it will be a LOT smaller - see Sega Menacer, Mega-CD, N64 RAM expansion, driving wheel sales, 32X etc. Games cost an absolute tonne which means that games need to sell loads. You know how Xbox are putting their exclusives onto PlayStation? They've sold 30m consoles. PSVR2 has sold 2m. If Xbox is not making enough money with 15x as many sales, how do you think that Sony and its partners can keep making VR games? The only way we get close to this working is to start with the standalone consoles - the Meta Quest series. They reported they were around 16m units with Quest2. Then it's a smaller (but not zero) cost to port to PSVR2. Ah...but we've spent $1000 on a PS5 and PSVR2 - we don't want ports of cheap Quest games! Especially as the Quest audience (tweens) is different to the PSVR2 audience (core gamers). I see two solutions. One is that Sony develops a standalone headset that's enhanced when attached to the base console - like Quest and PC. I don't think Sony will be interested in this route; it's extremely expensive, they've not done brilliantly with handhelds in the past and Meta's sales don't demonstrate a huge VR audience. The second solution is that someone develops an automatic conversion tool that enables flat games to be played in VR. We've seen progress on this in PC. This wouldn't be optimal but it would inflate the library. Sorry to say but I just don't think the economics work out for PlayStation style games in VR.

VR is the most wide nextgen jump ever in videogames and even with all psvr 1 limitations, I was sold immediately. Never left, just quit flatgaming altogether after decades of same button-mashing. I'm waiting for more full ports like GT, RE and, yes, Skyrim. People don't seem to understand that VR presence puts a different spin on games: it's less about goals and urgency and more about simply enjoying being in that virtual world. I hate most stupid minigames and horror walking sims in dark hallways. They absolutely don't understand what makes VR tick. Skyrim does. Even simplified, made for VR ports like Green Hell or Medieval Dynasty understand what makes VR engaging... I just hope the likes of Forza Horizon or The Crew come to VR. I want to just drive around beautiful landscapes in awesome cars - it's not merely about yet another fast racing game... edit: Lol nice quite of Chief O'Brien on the holodeck. Yup, VR is a lot more physical than regular button-mashing on a sofa. But hey, we're getting old, buddy. A bit of workout is good and especially good if fun in good games anyway, welcome to VR. Motion sickness is non issue soon and welcome to getting at frustrated at lack of major games, even older ones...

VR has a lot of great tittles out. Unfortunately, it is not mainstream enough for non VR gamers to recognize. The one company i feel can take VR to a mainstream level is Nintendo. I know the chances are slim but Nintendo does think out of the box... So you never know.
