Dear The Urban Gentry. Firstly, thank you for posting these great videos. I watch your videos every time you post a new one. I have a request: could you please make a video of watch magazines if there is any? I would love to educate myself more by reading. In addition to your channel, I feel that a proper watch magazine would be a great supplementary source for horological information. Many thanks and keep up the good work! Greeting from Finland.

I have been collecting for a minute. Today I am wearing my 52 year old Baylor/Heuer bi-pax 1969 chronograph. I was 15 when I bought this, my 1st watch. I wanted to become a pilot and 25 years later that happened. I wore this little watch on many a cross country. It is SO delicate but I am very careful with it. Had to change the 4:00 pusher and connecting rod in the movement during it’s one and only service 3 years ago but everything except the lume (old radioactive ☢️) and the water seal function beautifully. Old watches rock. I have several in my little collection. Great vid as usual Sir!

For me its about the possession of the item, I never sold any of my watches, now more than 170. What I do is I keep them at home, in those 20 watch cases. So every sunday night I change case and I only wear the watches of that particular box in that week. No matter if I wear everyone of them (changing every 8 hours) or only a few of them in that week, for me part of the fun is knowing that I have them and that I can take a look at them whenever I want.

TGV, having made the decision to quit lifting my iPhone for the time of day, I’ve jumped back into wearing a watch, and you and your viewers played a big role in my recent Seiko Sarb033 and Squale 1521 purchases. Speaking of the Squale 1521, I've had my ocean blasted 1521 on the vintage leather strap for two years now. I'm still head over heals in love with it and that leather strap has soaked up so much character over the past two years it looks amazing. And thanks again TGV for popping it on my radar way back when. I used to visit your Facebook page daily but dropped all Social Media Six months ago, I've never looked back. A big thanks for keeping the KZbin channel going as I'd be lost without it. Great job Sir.

My biggest regrets were having sold my Omega Moonwatch and my '80s Rolex Datejust with a beautiful champagne coloured dial on a Jubilee bracelet, though I think there is also a joy in letting go of some timepieces as they make room for other new and interesting acquisitions.

I inherited a Polerouter with the Microtor from my step-grandfather. It's got a tiny bit of rust on the back of the case, so it doesn't look as stunning as yours, but the front looks really good, apart from scratches on the crystal. It's a black dial with the gold circle around it. Judging from what you said about this line of watches, I think I am going to hang on to this for a while.

I've only been collecting watches for around half a year and on a student budget so I've only ever sold one watch, it was this wonderfully simple 34" vintage Bernex with an inscription on the case back thanking an employee for working with the company for 25 years. I sold it to a member of the UGWC because I just never wore it as I'd only wear a manual wind for dress purposes and what opportunity does a first year student get to dress up? Sometimes I miss it, but I don't regret it because I know it's new owner appreciates it far more than I ever could. Great video!

I'm very jealous! I love the Polerouter. Such a classy and subtle piece. My grandfather owned the solid gold variant, he always wore it when we were out for dinner, sadly after he passed, nobody has seen the watch since. I believe it to be hidden in a safe somewhere in the manor since a couple of other watches of him are missing as well, so I'm always looking for them when I'm there. Great video Tristano!

The speedmaster part really resonated because i am torn between keeping and selling. I bought my Pro new in 2009, my first mechanical. I wore it every day for the first 2 or 3 years but started to wear it less and less. I bought a Tudor Oyster a couple of months ago and that has been attached to my wrist. That 34mm has made me really crave an old Rolex, Air-King, Perpetual date, Oysterdate, and i know i could sell the speedmaster and get one. But i look at speedy and it pulls at the heart strings. I love it, but i dont know if it is really me anymore, at the minute i wouldnt buy another chronograph. I guess i am affraid of selling and regreting it! Another great video.

When purchasing jewelry a more economical than solid gold but still beautiful option is a gold filled piece. Jewelers create gold filled jewelry by pressure bonding an actual layer of gold to another metal. Although a gold filled piece of jewelry is not sold gold, it has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off or turn colors. Wearers who are sensitive to certain metals can wear gold filled without worries of an allergic reaction. Although the layer of gold in gold filled pieces varies depending on the manufacturer it is in all cases significantly thicker than regular gold plating (the next category of gold jewelry). Gold filled accessories can be worn even daily without fear of fading or rubbing off for many cases as long as 30 years.

I recently wore my 18 karat gold Universal Geneve Polerouter Date with champagne dial to the Swatch store here in Miami. The representative immediately came up to me and asked, "Universal Geneve?" For someone to know what watch this is, they are deep deep deep into high horology. I was so impressed with him that I bought a watch, sistem 51 just for fun. It's literally the perfect watch. It's around 10mm overall in thickness but wears like 7mm thin, as the crystal is thick. It wears like a 35 mm, but it looks like a 37 or 38 mm because it's so vibrant, and it's so bold. The target style dial inverses the light play like no other. You can take a hundred different pictures and none of them look the same because of the way the dials designed with light play in mind. It's literally the perfect watch. Mine, from 1960, still has one of the smoothest movements. I have a Vacheron Constantin, 2022 Rolex Datejust mother of pearl/ diamond dial, Zenith, and a few others but the Universal Geneve Polerouter is art. You must buy one before they double in price. Bruce Lee's Universal Geneve Polerouter was sold for $20,000 in 2017

haven't had this problem, but I've been fortunate enough to have been a collector of other things before watches, so I've been super careful about what I bought. I sold my first watch about a month ago, doubled what I payed for it new and got to enjoy it for over a year, nearly two years. Don't regret it one bit, it was time for it to go, and the money came in handy. Actually my collection still feels large for me and I'll probably be scaling it back 1-3 more watches. Always buy something unique and in demand, don't ever sell because you need money fast. That auction sat up for probably 2-3 months, but I got what I wanted out of it. Just my opinion. Anyways great video bro!

The observer is an ABC “outdoors” digital watch that rivals GShocks and the new Seiko Digital Tunas. The happy part of this story is at the time I lost it there happened to be a video on Andrew st Pierre whites 4x4 overlandin channel about his Rolex, which I watched. Then that made a recommendation for You and then Bark and Jack, now my Amazon wish list is full of Seikos, Orients and Retro Casio’s and more besides. Dear TGV, I absolutely loved the images you added before each item. It kind of reminded me of one video you made (I don`t remember witch) in witch you would have this hilarious reactions before presenting each item (Maybe something about watch buying mistakes or don`ts...). That 80`s Tudor Day Date was absolutely gorgeous! Maybe you should consider buying it back as a gift to yourself . In my opinion there are some watches that people should posses (even if not to wear them) for the sentimental value. In your case, this Tudor Prince, as it is your birthday year and being a 35mm beauty! I have a 1950`s Eterna Matic my grandfather gave me and it is absurdly costly to upkeep, and I hardly wear it for fear of damaging, but I keep it anyway. Loved the video.

That Universal Geneve is beautiful TGV. Funny I was just sitting with my dad talking about watches. Yeah he is the reason I'm into watches. Anyway we were talking about his 77 Rolex master GMT. He said that when him and my mom first moved from Olympia Wa to Seattle Wa he considered selling it, because they were short on money. My mom talked him out of it, because she knew that if he did he, would regret it for the rest of his life. That Rolex has been with my dad though thick and thin. I love that watch because it reeks of adventure. He is a retired Marine Biologist and has traveled extensively. How he got the watch is a great story too. Me personally I have no regrets every watch I sell, I sell because I dont love it anymore.

About the "safe queen" question. I agree 100%, if the watch never gets worn, whats the point? Now, I admit that I am a brand new collector, therefore I may have a different view on this, once i have a couple of higher end pieces in my hand. The way I see it is, "never spend more on a watch, or other luxury product than you are comfortable with outright losing". Reason being that, if you are comfortable with losing the $, you will never worry about dings and scratching the watch, therefore you will enjoy it so much more because the money is gone period. If you do want to sell it later on, all the better. But if you depend on possible resale value when buying the watch, you will always baby it. But like i said, iam new in the game. Tell me what you guys think.

I feel your pain on the Digital loss, when something looks and fits just right its priceless. Mine wasn’t a regret of me selling but it was literally lost. I wore it to a party and met a soon-to be girlfriend who said she liked my watch and how I wore it that night. I noticed it was gone at one point after our relationship had ended and assumed I had lost it for many years. It hasn’t been until many years later and my renewed interest and love for Watches I realized maybe she loved that watch more than me but no regrets if thats the case, you get some you lose a watch but you have memories of both 😁 I guess that’s the moral of the story, think of the memories you had with the watch and what special moments happened when you had it that’s what will stay with you.

Your Rolex Explorer on that strap goes very well with your shirt. It really makes you like an explorer, no pun intended.

TGV, what's the intro piece of music? I recently listened to it but I can't match the name! BTW, I wanted to say that your previous intros have been excellent, esp the one with the Siegfried funeral March. I think we share similar musical tastes. Is it Wagner's prelude from Tristan and isolde?

Hey TGV. Random question here. What do you think about Zenith the watch brand?
@johnnidhiry44096 жыл бұрын
My biggest regret was selling my DeWitt Hora Mondi, which was a beautiful timepiece, was accurate and unique; additionally my girlfriend really liked the piece. I did not wear it as often as I like though, so I sold it. Big mistake as I still miss that watch. Totally agree on Universal Geneve. I have the Aero Compax with the 24 hour dial, it is so beautiful, well made and runs great. There is something about tremendously appealing about most of UG's models if one appreciates horology. It is a shame that they did not retain that great reputation.

Congrats, TGV on this unique find and for sharing your enthusiasm. Most of the us do have budgetary constraints, notwithstanding on rare occasions when I spend in the range of $7k for a piece. I enjoy my 12Kt GF viintage pieces, circa 60/70's. I'm no longer inclined for big ticket new pieces, but enjoy hunting vintage (circa 60's/70's) well under $1k. Kindest Regards, JP

Great video 👍. Congratulations on your new Polerouter. I have not experienced any sellers regret yet but I missed an insane deal on a Speedmaster a couple of weeks ago. I waited too long and it was a mistake... Regards, Koen

Hey dude. I bought I Casio G-shock gwm b5000 a few months ago, now I don't wear my DW5600s too much anymore. Just the other day I ordered a Universal Geneve Polerouter in 18k with the same dial. Cal 69 movement etc. It's my first vintage. It hasn't left my wrist. 🙄 I call 200 people per day on the phone so I can't help but stare at it all day 😂😂😂 not too much on it online. Maybe I need to research deeper. Just wondering if you had run by any research of Gérald Genta's first design? Have a good day! Paul, Miami
