I Really Need Your Help with This! How to I do this on a MAC
It might actually turn out to be simpler that I am thinking.
But I need to know is you can print Profile Charts from Proprietary Profiling Software such as from DataColor Spyder 5 or Colormunki Photo or higher X-rite and be 100% assured that they will be printed without zero Color Management when you are using a MAC OS Printer Driver.
If anyone has a step by step procedure on how to do this please share it in the comments.
I am NOT talking about Printing Photos using ICC profiles through Photoshop or any other software.
This strictly about how to print color patch charts for the subsequent production of ICC profiles to be printed on a MAC system and Corresponding Printer Driver.

Hello Jose, I agree with Markus Metz and Robert Johnson. macOS is equipped with ColorSync Utility which incorporates a 'Print as color target' option. This is designed to print profile targets without color management. Profile services will even insist that you use this method to print their targets. I have tried the Adobe Color Printing Utility, which will also print without color management, but has scaling problems in macOS. If your profiling system requires the patches to be sized to fit the color scanning tool this can introduce an undesirable variable. The target patches are otherwise identical to those printed with ColorSync Utility. I use the i1Studio color management tool and the software has a problem properly reading the Canon Pro-1000 driver and doesn't display the complete list of custom papers added to the printer (I will contact X-Rite about this). It otherwise appears to be able to print without color management. So, I save the targets to disk and print them with ColorSync Utility. But only after adding the custom papers to the printer and driver using Canon's Media Configuration Tool. This will then set proper platen gap and ink density for the paper type and weight in use and subsequently chosen in the driver (and set at the printer) when printing the targets with ColorSync Utility. I have a number of Epson papers, left over from when my R3000 was fully functioning, I intend to profile this way with the Pro-1000. I have both Datacolor's Spyder tools and now X-Rite's i1Studio and I agree, X-Rite has a much better handle on color management. I hope this is of some help. DH

You can open your print target in the color sync utillity. On the left bottom side under the loaded picture choose „Match to profile“ and „None“. Open the print dialogue, Show details , choose your paper and under color pop up choose „Print as color target“ . This will print without color management. Hope that helped. Btw. Thanks for your great channel.

Was just about to mention the ColorSync Utility, which every Mac has included in the OS This might be helpful as well : www.colourphil.co.uk/profiling-colorsync-utility-mac.shtml

Jose, short answer is I don’t know the answer to printing your specific profiles. Long answer is I’m on a Mac and use a spyder system for color management and profile creation and have made over a dozen custom profiles. The way I understand it is that the spyder software disables color correction. I’m happy to use the spyder as a reference and make an icc profile with the color correction off via spyder and then try to print the same profile in Lightroom and Photoshop to confirm that the profile is not being color corrected when printed outside of spyder. You have helped me in the past and I’m grateful and am willing to dedicate the better part of a day to messing around with this if someone else doesn’t have a more concrete answer that is more specific to your need. It’s past midnight here at the moment.

When printing a test chart through ColorMunkiPhoto on a Mac, color matching is in fact disabled by the profiling software. I use a Canon Pro-100 and verified that both ColorSync and Canon Color Matching controls are disabled in the Color Matching tab.

Here's what is stated on the XRite homepage on this: www.xrite.com/service-support/printer_driver_not_allowing_color_management_to_be_controlled_or_shut_off_on_the_mac_os_x_system Since I do not have a Pro-100, can't tell if it is that different from the Pro-1 driver, where color management cannot be turned off.

I am not sure if it will work on a Mac but Adobe has a utility called ACPU that is designed for printing without a profile it's still available and free to download.

Joe, I use both OSX and Windows. I rarely print with the Mac as I've always loved Qimage. But since there is a snow storm coming and I will be home Tuesday, I will try a few things with my Mac to see if I can help out. Vin

Vin, thanks but my question is about how to properly print profile charts on a Mac from either your normal editing program or the calibrated software itself. Not about printing photos themselves. Although I also do need to learn that as well.

Hi Jose, unfortunately Apple decided several years ago to change their approach to printing and they completely removed the option to turn off color management altogether from all of their printer drivers. Here's how I have created my color profiles ever since with great success (for both a Canon i9950 and a Pixma Pro-1): 1) When printing the color charts from the profiling software, select Color Management from the dropdown in the print dialog. 2) Make sure that it is set to "ColorSync". 3) Select either "Wide Gamut RGB" or "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" as the profile (for the Pro-1 I prefer the wide gamut setting). 4) Make any other necessary adjustments, like paper type (glossy, matt, etc.) in the printer driver. 5) Save these settings as a custom (named) print setting (you'll need this later on; I typically name it after the color profile and the type of paper, as you will have to re-use it for printing and when creating more custom profiles). 6) Print the chart and create the custom color profile, following the instructions of the profiling software. When printing a photo with your custom profile from Photoshop or whatever print application you are using (I am typically printing from SilverFast PrinTao), select your custom profile, with the color handling done by the software. In the "Print Settings", however, make sure you set the printer to the previously saved custom print setting--this will ensure your photo will be printed with proper colors (and don't be worried that you cannot change the profile any longer, as the software is now in charge of handling the color). I am afraid, though, that you cannot use a color profile created with a Windows machine on a Mac. You most likely will have to create separate profiles, but I may be wrong. But if I remember correctly, some paper manufacturers like Hahnemühle offer different color profiles depending on the OS your printer is connected to (again, I may be wrong, as I do not use them, but always create my own profiles). Hope this helps, Michael

I have a question that I need answered, please. I'm using a canon pro 100 printer. My camera is 23 megapixel. I'm looking to buy a 48 megapixel camera. most of my printing is 13 x 19. When I'm printing maximum resolution will be 23 megapixel file print the same as 48 megapixel file. Does it pay to move up to a 48 megapixel camera to get better print quality out put of the canon pro 100.. Rich from Plant City, Florida .

Not really. Only when you print beyond that size which would require a larger capacity printer. My camera is 24 mp and I can print to 17x36 on my larger printers with amazing detail.

The free Adobe Color Printer Utility does indeed work on the Mac and was developed by Adobe especially for the purpose of printing images which need to have all color handling turned off. That was after Adobe eliminated the option of turning off color controls in their software. I have used it to print purge images because if you don't turn off the color handling your purge printings will not just use the designated color channel ink. Another option is the Print Tool program by Roy Harrington (of QTR fame). Serious printers swear by it - search for and read Jon Cone's comments about it. It is not free, but everyone who has used it indicates the price is well with it. You can download a time limited trial before buying.

@cheo1949

There is not problem with Qimage. You simply select OFF and them you have to make sure the driver is also OFF. But then every one doesn't have access to Qimage I am wondering about printing applications of if you are printing out the generated charts from Colormunki photo or i1Studio or higher software. There can not be ANY interference by any of these. App or driver.
