I think Ribeak's name could set up super well for an evolutionary line. "Ribbing" is something that fishermen do to their flies to make them more durable or to attract fish better. You could lean in more to the fishing aspect of a kingfisher, like giving it long tail feathers that can act as fishing rods. Lots of birds have these, but I think combining the kingfisher with the astrapia (a bird-of-paradise) could work well, specifically the RIBbon-tailed astrapia. They uh... they don't live in the UK, they live in Papua New Guinea... but it used to be a British colony at one point, so maybe that's fine?? Anyway, I just think evolving Ribeak into a river-based kingfisher mixed with a ribbon-tailed astrapia with a ribbed fly on its tail could be neat.

This reminds me of years ago when a friend and I made up 159 unique pokemon (including ghost and poison Eevees named Spectreon and Irradeon, and a water/fighting type named Jawsome that was just a shark with really buff arms), and an entire region based on the tropical Pacific islands like Hawaii, Samoa, and Fiji. And then about a year later they released Sun and Moon.

A few days ago I was going through all my old drawings I haven’t looked at in years. I found fanart I drew of ribeak, miskit and bunfire, and I was surprised to see this video when I opened youtube today. The redesigns are a big improvement!

I actually made a Kingfisher Fakemon a while ago. The idea is "What if MissingNo was an actual Pokémon". Since MissingNo is a Bird type, found on Cinnabar's coast, with Sky Attack and Water Gun, I thought that a Kingfisher, that dives down on its prey in the water, was fitting. And so this Pokémon could be found on Cinnabar's coast amoung other places, since it would be its fishing spot. I also based it on a Purple Martin, as it has sexual dimorphism, with the male being having more dark blue colors and the female being brown with a bit of blue. I decided to have this because one, in french the Kingfisher is called "Fisher Martin", so basically the MissingNo Pokémon is based on birds with the Martin name in it. And so I named my Fakemon Martwin, gave it a male form with black, blue and brown, and a female form with white, brown and blue (with the specific values being the ones Missingno has, aka the colors in Pokémon Red and Blue). It would then evolve into Martinct at level 44, with the female evolving into a "Fossil form" based on the Ptera and Kabutops fossils, and the male into a Ghost form, based on the Lavender town ghost, since those can appear as MissingNo. As for the shinies, the female becomes white, grey and light blue, based on Pewter City's colors in Pokémon Yellow, since that's where the Fossil sprites are found and it's the color scheme they have. The male becomes black, light purple and dark purple, based on the Ghost's colors in Pokémon Yellow. I did design these Pokémon, but I can't really show them here ^^'

love these so much! it's always great to go back and work on something that you did in the past. my only comment is that bunfire does look pretty cat-like, a good way to fix this could potentially be to make the eyes more side-facing! rabbits are prey animals, meaning their eyes are situated on the sides of their heads :D

Man I wish the Pokemon Company would hire actual Pokemon Trainer artist/players for ideas of how to tight up some old pokemon to new ones and to create better new pokemon as well. You did an incredible job at redesigning them for sure Lucy! Gotta love the Cape, Fire Ears and Eyeliner felt like they became more pokemon like after the redesigned and less eevee looking.

Wow this is a blast of nostalgia! I remember making fanart of Ribeak on my DeviantArt back in 2019. Also the new Miskit gives me chipmunk vibes. It's probably the tail turning into a cape. Speaking of, Miskit's evos could have a burglar/Robin Hood theme as it evolves. It could be Grass/Dark in its final form. I would suggest a flying squirrel route and the Flying type, but Ribeak has that type. Ribeak's theme could involve diving suits. And... I'm not sure what to do for Bunfire's theme. But anyway, these three are much improved. Nicely done!

Like, i get it from a childhood perspective you based them on animals you saw a lot and had a connection with, but starters to me should feel rare and special. I love these guys! I actually made a family of fakemon that would represent a regional bird. My idea was that they could come from a region based on Canada. They are based off the bluejay. The first stage is called Jaybrisk (based on "jay bird" and "brisk) and the second stage is called Iciitta (based on "ice" and "Cyanocitta" which is the genus) They are dual flying/ice types who are special attacking fast glass cannons. Their Pokedex entry would explain how they fly in flocks following the north wind, and are able to generate their own gusts to glide in during migration seasons. In game they would have an ability that let them summon tailwinds when sent into battle to reflect this, and also if the region had seasons like Unova, their location would change depending on what season it was. With half the year them being found in the north of the region and the other half them being found in the south. I only wish I was good at drawing so I could design them

I like Ribeak's eyes as they remind me of my favorite fire bird, fletchling. I don't think it's too similar to fletchling, but I think it's fun because it's a water bird vs a fire bird. And there's a fun little penguin hanging out in the eyes if you look at it the right way. I also think that Bunfire's ears being solid and then moving up into flames is a nice touch for a starter design. Reminds me of Cyndaquil's spines, Charmander's tail, Infernape's "hair."

Prior to gen 5 I came up with my own region with it’s own fakemon legendaries It would have been a region with 18 towns around a region large mountain (yes, it sounds like a proto-Paldea) The fakemon I created were Box legendaries: Pokemon representing Good Luck, Bad Luck, and Yin-Yang Sub Legendary group: Pokemon representing the elements of fire, water, air, and earth (Avatar: legend of Aang influenced)

I feel like Bunfire's ears should be larger, and Miskit could absolutely still have a leaf tail, but rather than the little cut part being on the tip, moreso off to the side, so you could shape the tail very large and like a squirrel's. Alternatively you could have it literally be a bushy tail. Ribeak is already perfect
