I'm in the boat of if you want to smoke or do drugs, that's on you, but as soon as you bring a kid or pet into the mix, that's when I care. It's just not right to put kids or pets through that, it effects their health just by smelling it.

COMPLETELY agree! as soon as i got my leo, i stopped smoking entirely. occasionally would smoke herbs outdoors, but never cigarettes or tobacco ever again, and nothing inside the home. no incense, no vape, no essential oils, etc. Animals do not consent to being second-hand smokers. Most smokers take huge offense to this viewpoint, too, which sucks so much

I’m always on the side of letting others be. If there’s something going on I don’t like, I leave. I’m not seeking to ban anyone from doing something they might find pleasant so I can feel unbothered. If it’s something you want to do, come back another day. If you keep coming and finding a smoker then wear a mask if it’s that big of deal. There’s ways to prevent you having to smell whatever it is that bothers YOU. Demanding others do/not do something to make you feel better isn’t the answer. I don’t like people smoking in restaurants, or so close at card tables. But it’s worse to tell people they can’t do something because they need to be responsible for others’ health. Just stay away from smoke if it offends. Don’t criminalize people for smoking in a park. Or way out in a national park where a couple post no smoking signs in the middle of nowhere due to some clean air bill. Yet campfire ok. Some people’s thoughts are a joke. So righteous they feel, so ignorant they are.
@TheWorkingAussie2 жыл бұрын
@@thepain321 I shouldn't have to mask up because people smoke. People definitely shouldn't smoke around pets or kids. They should keep that crap to a confined space where no one else is. If you want to kill yourself with that toxic stuff, okay, but I draw the line when you subject others to it.

i don't think it would have done anything if you'd reported it, police and government services usually don't bother with places like that. it would have been a quick 5 minute phone call where someone asks about the health of the child, animals, and the living conditions, the parents lie about it, then it never gets brought up ever again. it's sad, but it's a tale as old as time.

Oh my god! What is with the reptile people on craigslist!? In 2013, I was living in an apartment complex with some gross neighbors. One day, I discovered a 10 inch long red-eared slider, who had been placed in the garbage area, in a plastic bin. You know, like how you get rid of unwanted furniture. I was horrified. But I don't own any reptiles, And I didn't have space to put a high quality turtle enclosure for the next many decades that he could live. So I went to craigslist, looking for a reptile rehomer nearby. A couple of people were interested, but I give to the first person who responds. He says that he has an enclosure for red-eared sliders already, And that he has lots of other reptiles that he rescues. Sounds great! We go to his house. He invites us up to see the rest of his reptile collection. His slider habitat was great. It fit everything that I was reading about what they require (I was considering keeping the turt.) There were three others in the tank already, but it was huge. It looked like they were splashing and having fun. Then, I look around. A tortoise, snakes. And Nazi flags. And KKK flags. And posters about Germany. And medieval swords on the wall. I was in the house of a proud Nazi. I look Jewish at a glance. I was genuinely afraid this guy was going to hurt me if he suspected that. I felt safer because my boyfriend at the time was there with me. But I didn't know exactly how violent Nazis got with Irish looking men who are sleeping with Jewish looking women. We booked it out of there, fast. I was so confused. He seems like he actually did take good care of his pets. I didn't understand how someone that hateful could still care for animals. But I guess, he could just see his enemies as below the rank of animals. Trying to think about it too much is repulsive. I regret dealing with him at all. But I left the turtle with him, mostly out of a desire to leave his place quickly. But also because he actually had a great habitat!

I used to get pressured into taking folks’ enclosures at times in the past- as I got older, looking back, I think they just wanted me to move it away for them & take it off their hands…. I remember a guy I worked with’s daughter had a MASSIVE corn snake enclosure that ended with me finding a friend with a truck & recruiting 2 other poor souls to help move it to my TINY apartment… (the grapevine at work had a good chuckle that “I was the fool” since I saved HIM from having to move it AND that I PAID $150 for ‘garbage’!) But I didn’t care- I had just moved out of my parents house, & the 1st thing I had waited my entire life to do was to GET A SNAKE!! I had been waiting for YEARS- my parents drew the line at Snapping Turtles- they hated snakes!! Anyway, I loved my new corn snake SO MUCH - she ended up laying eggs every spring after I bought a mate! Seriously, hatching those SNAKE EGGS was the best thing EVER, still to this day!!!! 🙂🙂.

Semi related, but 3 weeks ago I was looking for Madagascar hissing cockroaches and other types of hissers and I went to a reptile expo in the city over to see if there was any there. There wasn't but there was a breeder who gave me a card to the website and it had an option to do in person pickup for free (instead of the $50 shipping) plus I won a $20 gift card and he gave me like 30 hissers including Halloween and mahogany. Anyways, my dad and I show up and its a hoarder house/backyard breeding situation and you could smell the weed from the outside of the house. There are boxes of live animals that he "forgot to open and will be getting to them soon". There was no ac at all and genuinely it was so sad.

Smoke from weed is so bad for animals, my sisters roommate used to blow smoke from her weed into her cats face to get it high. So my sister took it and left. The cat couldn’t see or smell, ended up getting worse and worse over a few years, unable to gain weight. It eventually died from all this, skinniest it’s able to get, unable to see or eat or smell. At first it would just sit there and stare because it was so fucked up, it got a bit better in that regard after being taken. So those other pets and baby, I can’t even imagine with what they’re smoking. Hopefully someone else has already done something.

One question- why the hell would you ever I mean ever go to a Craigslist buy by yourself inside their house? As a girl and a daughter of a police officer I’ve heard some really scary things and my parents really put into my mind to be careful and be cautious of everything as there is a lot of evil in this world.

When I started we were strict about going in pairs and in a public place, but eventually we became more and more lax about it to where we'd go anywhere anytime for a reptile pickup

Yeah I've saved animals two different times where I didn't even take the enclosure because it was so rancid...I save two aquadic turtles yesterday that were straight up in black rancid water

Definitely not crack laced with fentanyl. But yes crack smells like hairspray/burning plastic.

The burning smell was probably meth- Meth, especially during production can often smell like ammonia or cat urine

Alex, if you smelt pot you'd feel something. 😅 If it was fentynal laced crack, you'd literally be convulsing on the front door step if you smelt it.

If that ever happens to you again you should call 911 right away! A child or baby should never ever be in that situation. The police will come right away to remove and give parents help for drug addiction.

I messaged someone about a used enclosure recently and they asked if I could trade weed because they didn’t want money. LOL. New ones aren’t that bad

Unfortunately, at least when it comes to the animals, if they are not dead or on deaths door then most states will do absolutely nothing about it. It’s really sad but most of the time they will give them a warning, tell them to fix the situation, and if it’s not fixed they pay a fee and the process starts all over again. But again that’s only if the animal is in horrid conditions. When it comes to the child I don’t know what exactly would’ve been done. I have a bad feeling there’s not much CPS or the police would’ve done. I’m sure the parents would try to cover it. I can totally understand why you would feel this way though and wish there was more others could do if we see something like you did.
