my biggest pet peeve is when people says space is “to large” for a reptile when the reptile would have even more space in the wild, and sure if it’s a baby maybe start with a smaller space but there is not such a thing as too big of an inclosure for an animal that would have even more space in the wild

True, I assume they're thinking that the enclosure is like a burrow and some species like tight spaces? Idk it's faulty thinking. I'm wondering if you could put a baby in an adult enclosure with more cover and just remove some cover as they grow

I went creeping on the guys profile from 7:07 and he's something. That enclousure he tried putting in 3 cresties, ended up giving one away. The other two were put in there were constatly fighting, so he got another slightly bigger enclousre, but put both of them in there and was surprised they were still fighting. He ended up puting a scorpion in it. No idea what happed to the cresties, propably killed each other. He also had a pac man frog for maybe 2 years before it died, had a tortoise (this seemed taken care of but idk about tortoises), '"lost" a dart frog in a fan, and killed a leopard gecko. The thing that bothered me the most about scrolling his profile is he's an armored car driver that is constantly getting high on the job while conceal carrying. Like wtf dude smoke pot all you want, but not if you're driving and especially not if you have a firearm. It's a felony to be in possession of marijuana and a firearm. Seriously fuck that guy.

Thank you! Seriously i don’t understand the whole small cage thing
@thejasminedragonmerchant6843
@thejasminedragonmerchant6843 2 жыл бұрын
@@6thdayreptiles414 The small cage idea is likely a combo of 1) pricing (since nicely-sized, good quality enclosures are often stupidly expensive) and 2) lack of desire to change your lifestyle to accomodate the animal's needs. Most people aren't willing to change up their house to have, for instance, a properly sized 5+ gallon tank for something as small as one Betta or a 20+ gallon for one fancy goldfish, so asking for similar sizing upgrades for a little lizard like a crestie is equally unlikely to happen. There's just a huge disconnect between "small animal needs a decent space b/c this will be their whole world" and "small animal must like a small place to hide, right?". Unfortunately this means the animal often suffers 😕

I was actually thinking this, although it looked like they had a water fountain in the middle, but if they moved it and added in two separate waterfalls with a divider between they’d be all set, preferably a solid one because seeing another gecko can cause anxiety. Honestly reptile keepers can be nit picky sometimes. A divider and multiple feeding stations and they’d be all good. I wish I had a cooler cage like that.

Just bought my crestie a week ago. We got my daughter a leopard and then I decided I wanted a crestie. My daughter and I did extensive research on both of them before ever purchasing them. We also bought their tanks before hand and set them up before even going to purchase our Leo & crestie. While I was at the pet store picking out my crestie the employee offered me to adopt a rescue that had frog butt 🐸 🍑 (no tail), but then she realized that it had been adopted out earlier that day. While I was choosing between the other cresties we were talking about how easily they drop their tail when another employee came up to us and tried to tell us that crested geckos do not/cannot drop their tails🤦🏻‍♀️ I had to argue with her that they most certainly do and that it's quite common because they are a bit skiddish. Then she proceeded to tell us that beardies can drop their tail and regrow it! I once again had to correct her that beardies do not have the ability to drop their tails and can only lose their tails by being in a fight or ripped off, and that they do not regrow. Leo's can drop their tails and regrow them not beardies. I learned all of this just by doing my own research when choosing what lizard fit best for my lifestyle. I do not understand how a petstore employee can be so uneducated on animals and give out so much (unwanted) misinformation. Petstores need to train and educate their employees a lot more, and customers need to do their own research before buying one.

Can confirm crested geckos will indeed drop their tail after keeping it through years of rough handling by children and jumping from adult hands to the floor, and being cohabbed with other cresties, for absolutely no reason. They will be alone in a their cage with the lights on, flip out, and drop it.

The biggest problem I could think of when your tank is "too big" is that I would never see my gecko again :B My tank is 45x60x90, literally the largest I could fit :p Its got a lot of foilage, both real and fake, and its a game of hide and seek every morning to figure out where the gecko is sleeping XD

One thing I saw in some of these enclosures is that they are mostly longer than tall. Crested geckos like taller tanks then long.

one time my mom had 2 of the crested geckos out to look at each other one was smaller than the other so the big one bit the small so you should keep cresties away from each other unless breeding.

I have to agree that I can't stand how aggressive some crestie owners and spaces can be about having other animals in the house when you have cresties. I've literally seen forums that claim they will ban users that talk about having "predator" animals in the same house, especially if they are allowed in the Poster's "reptile room". (Since having a reptile room for only those reptiles is also a required care for a lot of more toxic owners it seems.) But in my case, I have three cats and a Dog in my house and none of them pay any attention to the geckos. Ironically my geckos are always jumping on the glass trying to eat them when they pass by, especially my cream colored cat. I get that there are cases of irresponsible pet care when it comes to multiple species in a home.. but I think some people get a little too worked up about it even to responsible owners. As for the tank setup, I don't see why they were so mad. That tank was awesome and an active crestie would LOVE that much space to run around in. Especially once the plants and whatnot filled it in. Most big time breeders keep cresties in plastic tubs customized for proper ventilation because it's far more affordable than 300 USD Arboreal tanks, so I think that giant tank would have been more than fantastic for a crestie. (Aside from the fact the owner in the particular post apparently had a history of being irresponsible with animals..)

Cresties will literally listen to a vacuum and not bat an eye, but you could look at them funny and they’ll drop their tail ha ha. In the wild no adults have a tail. Expect them to drop.

My crestie was born without a tail, and was very stunted from the second he hatched. We adopted him when he was a year old from a local breaded I knew. We never really knew what was wrong with him, sadly it caused him to not live super long tho. I was happy to have him for the two of his 3 years of life tho. While he was alive he was very food driven, lively, and loved to climb on me. I just wish I knew what caused his issues 😞

Okay in defense of the tail drop story I fee that 100%. I’ve had my crestie for 4 years and my biggest fear is her dropping her tail. All I’ve known is her with a tail so it wouldn’t feel right and I’d probably cry too. I do love frog butt cresties though so no shade on the tail-less

I don't understand the argument of an enclosure being too big considering the natural state these animals come from. As long as you are properly maintaining the space does it really matter how larger it is? Or am I missing something?

I cannot understand people who cry that a terrarium is "too big"... There is no such thing as a too big of an enclosure, there can be one that's too bare but never too big! Like do these people think they live inside enclosures in the wild too or what? Signed: an animal nurse who loves crested geckos and has a terrarium nearly ready for one from Finland where the minimum for crestie terrariums is bigger than what most of those people have for their cresties...

Interesting that it's Korean, I guess there's a sizeable gecko base there. I actually saw a video this week of a guy who orderred 3 morphs of geckos he had been looking for, he bought them from a Korean seller. The seller, according to him, was just a single person and had fairly recently started breeding himself, I didn't really vette the seller. My only point is that I had no idea South Korea had such a presence in the reptile community. As with all communities there are people who do it right and those who do it wrong, just have to be cautious and look into every seller before making a purchase. I bought a Rosy Boa in November, my second snake ever. The first snake/seller, I got bit (bad pun). The snake didn't bite, but she had an infection in her tail. It was bad enough that even with antibiotics prescribed from a culture sample, done each time she was on antibiotics that she didn't make it. Surgery wasn't an option sadly, so she passed. I was very careful when I bought the second Rosy, looked into the seller, communicated a half dozen times, and it was an awesome experience.

We got my daughter a leopard gecko for her bday and I fell in love. I decided that I wanted a lizard as well, but didn't want to have to have a colony of crickets/bugs. After doing tons of research on Leo's, beardies, and cresties, I decided that a crestie was the perfect fit for me because they only eat live insects 1-2 times a week and their main diet is powered crestie food like Pangea and Rapashy. I just got my crestie named Zeppelin a week ago and I love him so much. He is kind of shy and likes to stay hidden, but comes out at night to play. Cresties are pretty easy to care for and are pretty good with being handled (although they like to jump). I say if you really are wanting one, have done extensive research on crestie care, can afford, and have the correct husbandry (cage, thermo/hygrometer, tons of live/fake plants and vines, hides, food/water ledge, substrate, uvb lighting, calcium & d3 supplements, and branches), then go for it.
