In my 3rd day, I resigned. I was so stressed that I literally wasn't sleeping at all, dreading the mornings of going to that job. I got sick a few days after, but recovered. So now I'm about to start another job and I hope this will be it, the right fit that I can stay for another 5 years and more!

Listened to this in 2022 and again on Sept 2023. After 100 interviews and 20 years in my field. The Reality....companies lie. It is tough to navagiate through the muddy waters.

Yup. That was just like me. I took the first job that said they would hire me right after college and I was desperate so I took it. One week in I realized that the manager lied to me about my schedules, what my responsibilities were etc. The costmers would yell at me for the cleaning staffs negligence and the staff was incredibly rude and toxic. I felt extremely anxious everyday. I quit one week in. The physical and emotional exhaustion was not worth the measly pay of $11 an hour. Bye👋

Here's my question. Do you just remove that job off your resume or do you leave it on running the risk of having to explain it at your next interview?

So around 8 or so years ago I left a job to go back to sales role id been successful in previously solely because I was conservatively going to make 35%+ more money. After one week in the new role I knew I’d made a mistake and I called my prior boss and he took me back in my prior role (and actually gave me a small pay bump too). I have always left it off my resume and just put my time line from the job I returned to as covering the full period because I was gone for I believe two weeks between my exit and return. So I would say a general rule would be leave it off because it really can’t do much but harm you. The exception where I would be unsure if I should list it would be if I left for that job from somewhere else, quit the new one suoer fast, and then had a space of time before replacing the job. I only say that because for me it would be harder to explain leaving a job without a new role from one you’d been at for awhile over the one you weren’t at for long. But again I would need some prolonged time between of maybe like a month or two where the space needs to be explained. For me I would rather explain that I’d left for a position and it was an immediate bad fit and it took some time to find my new role as I was more careful in accepting the next one to make sure I didn’t make this mistake again over having to explain why I left a role I’d had time in without a new role. But in the original commentor s situation he didn’t have s prior job he had left so he doesn’t have much reason to bother listing the one he left quickly because there isn’t an employment gap to cover.

We have had several employees leave our department recently and then almost immediately beg to come back. The job market is so tight that hiring managers at some companies are lying their rears off to lure candidates .

This happened to me. I was at my job for 6 years, was happy but just wanted a little extra money. I thought the grass was greener on the other side so I left for a new job, hated it and lasted only 4 months there. I ended up quitting but haven’t had stable work since. I haven’t been able to find a company that I love, and I get really sad thinking about it.

I left my old non-union company after 10 years to join a union one doing the exact same job. I loved that old company and the people. I sold out for a $15k/year pension plan. I completely regret my decision. Money isn't everything and I'm learning that the hard way.

4h day on the job and it’s definitely not what I expected. It’s a government position. People are nice and friendly, but the job seems to be diff from my field. Pay is also lower than my last job, so I feel stuck. Deciding whether to leave by next week or stick it out.

I was in my last job as an x-ray tech for about 5 years. I loved my job but wasn't getting anywhere professionally. I decided to leave, and through some real internal searching concluded that schedule, work/life balance, opportunity, and good co-workers were what I really wanted in a new job. I took a role as a business development representative about 5 months ago.. All was great in the beginning. The role has changed at least 4 times in 4 months, and we've already changed management. Expectations have never been clearly defined. The job has basically morphed into a self-starter cold call sales job which is the last thing in the world I want to do. I love the company, the culture, and the people. I've been holding on, but this role is simply not for me. I'm debating what to do moving forward, but I can't stay in this role for the year they want me to before a transfer. I wish it wasn't this hard...

I know you posted this a year ago and probably won’t see this but how did things work out for you? I’m going through a similar situation where it’s simply the role I don’t enjoy and the company culture is wonderful and I feel scared to leave bc of it aswell as the scarce job market etc
@CPAJayhawk
@CPAJayhawk Жыл бұрын
The romantic analogy is interesting for situations like this. If your partner reveled themselves to be not a match for you one month in, you wouldn't think twice about leaving. I think the money and scarcity mentality related to Jobs is what makes it harder. "omg my life will fall apart if I don't make this job work, I don't have a choice".

Ooof I am in a similar boat and am relentlessly beating myself up about it. I graduated 3 years ago with my Bachelors and still have no freaking idea what I want to do. Quit a job after 6 months that wasn't a good fit. Took a new job and, much like the caller, 3 months in, it is also not a good fit. All I want is to take a few months off to really take some time to myself and get some clarity on what I want next, but I can't afford it. Silver lining is that I'm only 25 so have some time to work out kinks.

I am in the same boat. Graduated in August and completely jumped the gun. The company has great benefits but the work is mad stressful. I’m on week 2 and your comment gave me some peace about slowing down a bit and working out the kinks. God bless the search and I hope all is well!

I really could use advice!! I was laid off from my job in tech in November, and just started a new job doing the same thing for another company a month ago. The amount of travel required for the job was under-represented to me quite drastically, and I don’t love the industry/product, but I took the job thinking it could be an opportunity to learn more about the role and grow, since I’m only 24 and don’t have enough “experience” for the roles I’m really passionate about. I just am feeling in my gut like I made the wrong decision taking this job, but idk what to do with this uncertain market/tech layoffs. I have enough money in bank, but don’t want to quit after just a month or so, but I can already tell this isn’t a great fit for myself. I’m just really scared and feeling lost and I appreciate anyone’s input. Thank you!

Funnily enough. I’m in the EXACT same situation. And I can already tell this ain’t it for me. I’d suggest to hold it out till you find a new job. I have a job offer rn that I’m considering to take on. Which means I’d have to leave my current job in less than 2 months. My boss acting very weird doesn’t help. But so far it seems like neither parties will hold out well. I was supposed to be given an advisor role. I ended up getting a trainee role. Okay cool, but where is the training? And if I solve things on my own (since I have some knowledge in my field) my boss gets pissed at me and gives me negative feedback. Which doesn’t help my relationship with future clients. All in all toxic. So run!

At your age you have a lot less power and credibility, fair or unfair...my first role out of college was a place I was at for 5 years, I hated 75% of my time in the role, but i knew going in I probably wouldn't like it, but i had to do it to establish credibility (CPA in public accounting)...if its not a toxic environment, I recommend sticking it out but be ready for a great opportunity at the same time, time will fly by.

I had this happen before and I think I mostly explained it by using my recent graduation and degree. But I always think there’s one thing to factor in that an employer is going to think you left a role quickly unless you were there for multiple years. So your reality with it is that unless you’re ready to stick around for awhile the employer you move on to is going to see that you left quickly. It’s not like six months is going to be a major difference from four. So it’s better just to move on ideally replacing the role first. And focus on why the new role is the better fit over the job have being bad.

I got made redundant from a job i liked with people that were fantastic. I got a new job at a big company thats got all sorts of perks. I hate the job and the conditions. I work in a lab that's more like a high speed factory with lots of pressure. Most people dont talk to each other and its a 12 hour day doing this. My mortgage has gone up 50% and my country is in a recession. Im about ready to quit after two weeks as i feel my soul is being sucked out of me

I worked with my previous employer for 11.50 years. To be honest I regret leaving but I know that it’s time for me to go. First week with new place, I know right away that this job and workplace environment isn’t for me. I applied for new role toward the end of first week, then second week did online and in person interview and third week, I got good news but subject to government clearance which took me two weeks. That two weeks for me was hell. I hope my new job is ok.

Same with me. Am going 10 mths and regretted so much that even the better pay couldn’t change my mind. Culture is toxic and the jobscope is just not using my potential. The worst part is i am bonded for 2 years for this job and I can’t even leave unless i come out with a large sum of money and i am sure no company is generous enough to buy me out. Any advice or anyone who can help?

i work at a great company, they recently gave me a huge raise to match the market rate. I started looking for other jobs before the raise. I have been interviewed for another position in an ed tech company. I have been looking at the reviews and there are some "stay away" reviews by employees. The new position would give me more fulfillment and purpose but the job i have now seems to have better benefits and career growth opportunities. Not sure what to do.
