Agree about watchers! If I have an item with a lot of watchers but no buyers, I will send a discounted offer to all of the watchers, and if no buyers, I will definitely end and relist the item regardless of watchers. To me, if you've sent a competitive offer to all watchers and still no buyers, the watchers were no longer interested or serious about buying the item. Purge the old watchers, and subsequent watchers may have a more legitimate or serious interest in your item. Rinse and repeat.

When I stopped assuming that all the good stuff is gone by 10:00 a.m. at garage sales, I started benefitting from amazing finds, even in the early afternoon. My best late-arrival find was a big box full of sterling silver flatware. It was 2:30 p.m. and I had to knock on the front door to alert the seller, who was watching a football game, that I wanted to make a purchase. He sold the whole box to me for $3. That said, I am an assertive early bird and I do try to get to as many sales as early as possible.

Also-never underestimate the leverage of being the last person at a garage sale. The seller , often has no desire in bringing everything leftover back inside at the end of the day, and are usually willing to let everything go for cheap or (sometimes,) even for free.

I went to the 4th and final day of an estate sale in California and picked up a hunk of cast iron for $2 that turned out to be a 5 cent payphone base from the early 1900s, which I auctioned (there's your low supply, high demand, hard to price scenario) and sold for $655. There's ALWAYS treasures to be had, no matter when you get to a sale.

I think sometimes people ask questions to be friendly and try to engage, and they feel that if you respond, that sends a positive reassuring signal to them. Totally understand what you mean about people asking questions, then coming back asking for partial refund, etc, though.

Buying high quality inventory at a price where you can turn a profit is easier said than done but solid advice. The way I started was selling quality items that I already owned but wasn't using any more. This will quickly give you some reference experiences on what people want that you can apply to decision-making about new things to buy.

I got sick and tired of deadbeat slow pay/no pay buyers. I went to buy it now only about four years ago, immediate payment required. Problem solved. Even if I am not sure with market value, I do know what I paid for the item. So if I make money and the buyer gets a deal, I am OK with that. On garage sales, you can't be first to all of them. I shop until they close which is typically noon to 1PM. Some of my very best finds ever were bought at the closing time of the garage sale.

But honestly how many of the "watchers" are other sellers? Probably less than 1%. It's easier to just check comps than watch a fairly common item to see when it sells and what for. Do you watch items for the reason you gave? I never have.

The first "view" is the Ebay robot. I run auctions with BIN. No offers. And if the person really really wants the item, they will BIN and not wait 10 days for the auction. Ebay is a lot of work vs. other platforms....a lot of work. More item specifics to fill in. They need to streamline.

Wonderfully clear & direct video, thanks. I personally wouldn't block somebody for asking a silly or annoying question. I am myself sometimes silly or annoying so it'd be hypocritical for me to do that. I save blocking for more troubling behavior. In any case, when people ask questions that are already directly-& clearly-addressed in the listing, I will respond with phrasing like this: "Thanks for the question. As mentioned in the listing: 'AND THEN I'LL QUOTE FROM MY LISTING.' " That's a way, I hope, of being both polite & firm. I've learned that calm, polite attention can sometimes win over people who at first glance sounded cranky or annoying. It's not always easy (I can be very testy), but politeness & patience sometimes results in sales-at least in my experience-& I'm grateful for those sales.

I recently used a different strategy for a low supply, high demand item that I was having a hard time knowing the value. Normally, I would use an auction, but there was only one comp from an auction 7 months ago at $158 that I thought was low based on similar items from the same maker. Rather than using the auction feature, I experimented with doubling the comp price to $300 on a buy-it-now. The item sold within 2 hours, which lead me to wonder if I could have gotten even more.

The shipping difference from time of listing to time of sale is quite possibly from the buyer's location. When you list the displayed shipping cost is reflective of your profile zip code which will be the cheapest since ship origin to destination is within 1 shipping zone regardless of carrier. You can view costs to different zip codes by clicking the "shipping, returns, ..." tab at the bottom of your listing and inputting a different zip code. Handy tool too if trying to get estimated costs when building in cost of free shipping on you time.

had a request from a buyer that said she was completely blind and wanted to know every little detail. Supposedly the Mother described it to her from the listing but she wanted more than what her Mother could describe. The pics of the item are very detailed showing every angle and measurement including the written description. Like you , i feel this would only lead to problems , as i grew up with a blind relative and she had an incredible sense of touch for instance, reading brail and could tell who you where with one touch. I dont think i could accurately describe this item on the same level as what her memory holds ,its something she used to have with a memory of every little detail

I personally block all buyers that get silly with questions like Justin mentioned. It's like he said, if they are already unsure and asking silly questions then they are likely a fickle person and will return the item on a whim. It's not personal I just like to run a good business, with quality items and well made listings. If you can't trust me that is okay but neither can I. As an aside: I still answer many questions and communicate. Like when someone asks about the certain texture of a piece of clothing, what specific measurements are, or even how functional a piece of technology is. I'm friendly and polite but if the question is "how many miles has this shoe been worn" I have no idea how to satisfy you with an answer and may block you.😂

I don’t know if you have answered this before but my eBay journey started in 2013 when my mother passed away and I inherited ALL the Knick knacks. Some were valuable unique vintage collectibles and clothing and that’s what I sold. Since then, a close friend, cousin and another family member passed away. A lot of my inventory cost me nothing, and I wonder if there’s a different way to approach selling in this situation ? Sometimes I do the loss leader thing with some items and I’m making net about $300/month when I actually do the work!

100% people who ask the most questions turn out to be the problem buyers. Also if they come at you with a long story about why they need a special discount, those ones usually try to play the game of attempting a partial refund after delivery
@dwightrenfield22415 ай бұрын
This is true, in my experience. The old rule is: the more trouble a buyer is before the sale, you can almost count on them being trouble afterward. Numerous questions about condition, questions about why you are charging so much for shipping, will you accept a lower offer, questions about shipping to alternate addresses, etc. These by themselves may not be an issue, but if there is a combination of two or more, I simply block them from being able to purchase.
@RetiredCheryl20216 ай бұрын
Why would eBay neglect to adjust the shipping charge for a buyer when they have combined five items? The weight was 3 lbs. and they were charged $35 to ship. The buyer lives in my state. My discount label from eBay was less than $7. In good conscience I refunded them some of that over charge.

The biggest problem with auctions on moderately priced items is that if it's not the only one, some sellers will create fake accounts to bid competitors out of the running. Ebay will ban the accounts eventually, but the owners don't care if the item they are selling on their regular account gets higher bids because of it while their competitor gets to eat the relisting delay.

I normally turn "Make Offer" off but sometimes I forget. I'm finding nobody seems to "Buy It Now" on those auctions and I will almost always get a back and forth pawn shop type conversation...Sells for $50, will you take $30, how about $45, will you take $35, lets meet in the middle $40.....SOLD. I'm not a fan of the back and forth time spent to sell one item. Also, it makes me feel like I have eBay attached to my hip 24/7 so I don't keep those making offers waiting because I just picture them sitting by their computer or phone waiting for an instant response to their offer? Is it wrong to just ignore an offer if it's to low and not even enter into the back and forth you know is about to happen. i don't really need sales and just do it for fun.

Heya Justin. Just getting into the reselling game. Mainly been selling off my own personal items but have been stopping and thrifting a bit and grabbing stuff from several marketplaces. Im doing okay. Been debating grabbing Flipwise. Just wondering if its worth the cost this early. I have about 150ish items listed on ebay consistently. One thing i was wondering is how do you calculate profit on selling a personal item you've had for a long time. What is the cost in your system flipwise? Just zero? Does that inflate things come tax season?

I have the same questions.

Up to you to decide whether it is worth the cost or not. Your store size doesn't really matter; you need to be keeping good records no matter what and whether you want to do that manually in a spreadsheet versus in an automated way is up to you. We have people using it with stores of all sizes, from a few active listings to tens of thousands, but the average is around 250 so you're not far from the average Flipwise member. As for selling personal items, this might help: help.flipwise.app/article/34-what-should-i-put-for-the-cost-of-personal-items-i-am-selling

Thanks for answering. I'm going to join as soon as I get a computer. I'm going to watch video now and take notes about selling stuff I own. There's so much to learn in the beginning.

you are wrong about Garage sale video games. You can score them all day long. You just need to know where the sales are that arent advertised online.

Agreed, I use YSTM only to set an initial destination and deviate as soon as I see another sign.

The video game hunting market is way saturated. I see just as many game hunters as clothing and Record people. Last time I had a garage sale I got 5 emails asking for video games. Posted on Craigslist and Marketplace

It's risky selling gold at estate sales. My friend had 3 women walk in on his sale and robbed her at knife point. I had a boom box taken right out of my hands marked $5.00 I knew was worth a fortune and the guy just walked out after paying for it and the person running the sale could not stop it

Great video. I have a EBay question. I’ve been reselling for about 5 years on eBay. I used to get many views and sell a lot of items. Mostly vintage camera gear. Then promote listing started and now unless I promote the listing for an additional 9-12% i will get almost no views. Seems I now have a variable rate 9-12% for items also and need to promote to sell. Making it very difficult to continue selling. With these outrageous rates. Any advice?

Is that really your home in the background of your videos? As a reseller I would expect your home to have inventory stacked on all available surfaces......LOL! Your home is too neat.
