I Remade ROGUE ONE with VFX

I read somewhere that the reason the ROGUE ONE filmmakers didn’t put Wedge in the movie was because of his line in STAR WARS, “Look at the size of that thing!” which implied that he had never seen the Death Star before. But if he was at the Battle of Scarif, he definitely would have seen it.

This is really exceptional work!! Alas, I must be a total nerd for a moment, and say that Wedge was intentionally left out of the Battle of Scarif because, unlike the rest of the alliance, he never sees the Death Star before Yavin. "Look at the size of that thing!" So they had Den Lawson be the voice on the comms at the Rebel base in Rogue One, explaining that he was holding down the fort while the others were gone, thus preserving his cameo and the canon at the same time. 🤓 But gosh darn it, this is too dang cool! 😂

DANG! You're right! I totally forgot about that. I did have Biggs in it at first, then realized he wasn't involved with the rebel alliance only until Yavin. Having to edit him out must've blind sided me on Wedge's involvement. Good eye on detail bub!

Actually, that’s David Ankrum, not Denis Lawson… Colin Higgins was the original Wedge, filmed the briefing room scene, but was fired and replaced by Denis Lawson because he hadn’t learned his lines for filming the X-Wing scenes. Lucas filmed in England but did ADR in California. Rather than pay to fly actors for minor characters to the U.S., he just used local voice actors. So, David Ankrum is the voice of Wedge in ANH. In Empire and Jedi, Lawson got to be the face and the voice of Wedge. I guess they had money for a plane ticket… 😂

I'm almost certain we'd have seen Wedge and Porkins in "Rogue One", just as we saw "Red Leader". But that's because they had unused footage of Drew Henley from "Star Wars" to put in there. I guess they didn't have any for the other two.

Issue is Wedge jumped ship at the same time as Biggs so Wedge wouldn't be there unless Biggs was as well. They would have arrived at the same time. Likely been grounded until their backgrounds were checked as well. So it's possible they wouldn't or shouldn't be in Rogue One, at least according to Rogue Squadron which gave background history of all the pilots in Rogue Squadron. Basically Biggs and Wedge would have been novice pilots as well, right out of the imperial academy likely not even finished with their training.

I originally did have Biggs in the edit, until someone told me it wasn't possible for him to have been there, due to him being on Tatooine the same time Leia got captured by Vader... However, I guess it slipped my mind that Wedge couldn't have been there either, oh well, whoops LOL.

I get that wedge wouldn’t be been in Rouge One for the quote mentioned above, but I’m tickled to see him here as he’s the only non main character to have been in all 3 of the Orig Trilogy. That and he’s also Ewan McGregor’s uncle in real life… so he’s got extra cool points there. 😎

Great concept. Although you have Gold Leader in an X wing cockpit? Too much light bloom and depth of field on interior of cockpits in my opinion, and I thought wedge looked too small in his cockpit in the frontal shots. Sorry for being nerdy, it’s just I’m doing my own Battle of Yavin sequence and I know how it should look, from the original footage.
