I know I glossed over it in the video, but to extract the Arkham Knight game models, I used UE Viewer: www.gildor.org/en/projects/umodel It's basically a program that allows you to view and extract resources from Unreal Engine games (like Batman: Arkham Knight). It's not the most user-friendly interface, but it let me get the specific 3D models and textures I wanted for this project. Just note that you need to already have the desired game installed on your device so UE Viewer can access and read the game files. A few people were asking, so I thought I'd drop this note here in case anyone else was wondering.

the mesh look high polly and the textures look nice as well. whenever i extract a model the meshes never look as good as the ones ingame, can you do a quick tut on how to do it?

Its cool, but way to crispy and bright. Making it darker and having more shallow depth of field would really help.
@jgontko23Ай бұрын
That and also... I get the excitement over cloth sims trust me... but in the original the cape is not flowing that much. There is a blender addon that helps with interesting camera effects like different bokeh etc maybe that could help. But still, this is very inspiring and I might try doing a shot from something I like myself.
@ihatedajews29 күн бұрын
@@jgontko23 I would suggest doing cape with houdini cloth, will look way more realistic. Also you can change the bokeh shape a bit in camera settings btw.

You are almost there. Just give it some more love in Comp: do some color correction, add gradients to fore- and background with a cryptomatte, add a vignette, a slight blur and some noise/grain on top and while doing that re-render the cloth wind: batmans silhouette is what makes the shot´s composition work. The waving cape is breaking our focus on the subject too much. This shot is all about composition.

@@JaredRehnquistMaybe try a different camera angle the Cape flickering(flapping) doesn't suit that camera angle. Maybe try from going from backside of batman to focus on his front rather than his side. The Cape ruins the side shot it could be better if it was for superman but for batman I don't think it's good. It's good but can never compare with the original. I appreciate the effort btw doing all that on your own is impressive that camera shake addon is good👍

Heres another tip for animation that'll make it seem more natural. (Not that it really matters for this shot) (Also Watch the 12 principles of Animation on KZbin) The joints in our limbs don't all bend in unison. Even the simple action of raising the arm here is a little more complicated than it seems. The hand wants to operate the ear piece and to get there it needs help from the rest of the arm so it sends out a wave of influence to nearby joints to help in order of proximity. The simple method of offsetting those 2 movements does a lot! Elbow bends BEFORE the shoulder. You might do them in the opposite order if the character is trying to stretch or throw something underhand. Also humans don't judge distances perfectly so we tend to overshoot or undershoot our movements. Having the hand either slow down a lot before reaching its target or miss it slightly and move back gives it a sense of weight and inexactness.
@JaredRehnquist7 күн бұрын
@@battleframestudios8989 excellent point! Motion tends to start from the center and then works it way outward. Like you said, first the shoulder would move, then the elbow.

I really think the cape barely moving adds to the gravitas and subdued feel of the orginal shot. It basically gives Batman the silhouette of a gothic statue / gargoyle. So constructive criticism: the cape flaps way too much in the wind in your version.

Dude that's awesome. One minor suggestion though, the cape simulation seems a bit too much. Maybe a more subtle sim with a force field that starts a few second into the scene would make it more cinematic. Just thinking aloud.
@JaredRehnquistАй бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Tbh I tried making the wind more subtle, but I felt like it looked too weird since wind tends to be a lot stronger at higher altitudes. That lack of wind was something that slightly bothered me about the original shot, but I also get that they had to tie down Christian Bale so he wouldn't fall to his death... Still cool that you noticed that detail!

Cool video. I dont use blender but I understood every step. Missing a few things. His body stance is completely off. As somebody that works with photography and design few key things you missed, but maybe not intentionaly. His body stance is completely off. He is actually standing with weight on one foot changes the body geometry completely. Yours looks like he is mid walk. However look how planted he looks in the cinematic. Also a bit more obvious, you have no depth of field and distance fog. Add all that you have your shot.
@davidortega623619 күн бұрын
Very cool. A couple of comments... Your blacks are too crushed compared to the original. Also, the cape animation is off. Nolan's shot had almost no cape movement which turns Batman into a gargoyle-like statue overlooking the city. But good work overall.
