I don't know how much extra work it is but I love that you started adding the extra colored effects. As a Frost DK main that FrostBringer might convince me to start going 2h instead of Dual... but then I know that if it was in game every DK would be using it so I might hold off, my poor hipster brain can't take looking the same as everyone else lol.

Two handed oblit is just gnarly from a thematic point of view. A frozen, spiteful, dead paladin cleaving you with a giant 2H and the air around them is so cold that it freezes the ground.

What I've started to notice is that having low res weapons in wow is that it helps the weapons stand out. Could just be that when paladins got the ashbringer or corrupted ashbringer in legion it just didn't stand out due to the dark colors they used while the original version is alot brighter which allowes it to stand more out

Interesting observation. This could be because the light engine of wow evolved over the years. In classic wow it was extremely primitive, and almost all lighting was just faked in the texture. Nowadays that's different, and it might be that the old textures pop extra when actual lighting is added ontop.

I really like the rune circle around the skull you did. It feels something very much out of modern wow and it elevates the design that much more. It's almost like the magic from the runes carved the half circle into the blade because the magic is so powerful and makes that part of the original design a little less silly.

Very nice job. I remember you already having made an updated Corrupted Ashbringer model and a corresponding video so I had to do a double take, then realized it was probably because the last version was more PBR, and an early shot at remaking WoW weapons, and you probably wanted to try your hand at it again. While that was a respectable attempt, I have to admit that this is way better. The improvement is obvious, and you're getting really close to replicating the WoW style, which is a mixed bag for me as I consider the modern-modern WoW style to be a little candlewax Pixary, but you're still straddling the line well enough between the older style and the newer one. All the same, good job and it looks great. I quit WoW a few years ago now and have no intention of going back, but it's stuff like this that I cannot resist but check out, admire and take a little trip through Nostalgia Avenue. I also think the rotating rune effect you made for it from scratch to create an unholy equivalent to the original pure Ashbringer's holy glow/rays is a nice touch. 10/10 update.

I'm about to drop a nuclear hot take... I've never really liked the design of Ashbringer. It's iconic and recognizable, and it has bits and pieces I like, but the whole design mostly reads to me as a Fisher Price plastic toy sword. And the Legion update just made that more obvious because Blizzard for some reason doesn't like making swords that look sharp anymore? This is definitely a worthy update though. Like others have said the spinning runes idea was sick as hell.

Your blue version does the same blizz always does: they mix blue with blue and some more blue with a bit of cyan. I wanted the frost one to have kind of a "frozen over" feel to it. I suppose I could have introduced some purple tones to it, but I def wanted to stay within the cold colours. Btw, you have better odds of me spotting a comment when the video has been out for a bit, because I don't have as many coming in to bury it :)

Beautiful work as always, and the runes circling the skull is a great adjustment. There was a time even before transmogging when we could swap clientside models and textures. So much fun model swapping which could only be seen by me. I have the actual Corrupted Ashbringer on my warrior dropped from 40 man Naxx and I remember I barely beat the runner up with my DKP. With the ability to revisit Old Scarlet Monastery wielders of the actual CA can run the event and become friendly with the Scarlets and see the interaction of Highlord Alexandros Mograine's ghost and his son Renault. I used to make bank selling that tour back in the day.

In classic, when tbc prepatch hit, i rerolled a blood elf pally. While leveling, we ran Naxx one last time. Ashbringer dropped, and i won the roll (it was even an upgrade! Lol). It hasnt left my bag since. And with transmog in cata, it will be my weapon appearance for the rest of time 😂
