I would call her Mayflower, since it is Thanksgiving and she is definitely making a pilgrimage! And you can tell she is truly giving thanks for the fate that led her to such a loving place and in your empathic hands. The derivation of the name "Mayflower" was the name the English gave to what we now call Lily of the Valley which is a pale white flower like the color of the horse. If the horse was male I'd have said "Alden" after John Alden, the legendary Pilgrim whose love PRISCILLA (or "Pris"!) would have been just too perfect...But Mayflower, or "May" would be a relevant to the day and the eldest matriarch of the herd. No matter what you end up naming her, i raise a toast to you and this charmed mare! May she live long and famous life beloved by the boys in the barn and us avid fans of your equine excellence! And thank YOU for all you do for these wayward and often last-chance souls. Note: Looks like i'm "gobbling" up votes for the name! (i'll see myself out LOL)

Such a sweet horse, I'm glad she was tried and I feel like there's a good chance she can be saved as long as no huge extra problems are uncovered. Our rescue got a 28 year old gelded thoroughbred that was in worse emaciated condition than this one plus he had some wobbler syndrome. The vet said she was skeptical it was worth trying to save him but he made it all the way back to decent health for his age and the wobbler was mild enough not to be a big problem for a pasture pet. He was a good boy too, kind of a prankster but not mean or anything. He tried to act all aloof but he loved neck scritches and was very smart and a faster learner.

Reminder to everyone, while this Mare is doing good right now, she is still in the critical zone and can pass at any moment no matter what CC does. Send that good ol' mare all the positive vibes and/or prayers for the next two weeks because being 20+ and that emaciated means a lot more can go wrong. Its just the nature of the beast when it comes to these kind of rescues. And if she does pass the rainbow bridge, then at least she was well taken care of in her final days.

I bought a horse a few years back and ended up having to put him down within six months of buying him. A lot had gone on with the people who had sold him to the lady I bought him from: they took advantage of her not knowing anything about horses and sold him as fifteen years younger and completely healthy, which he wasn't. My plan had been to get him back in good health and sell him back to her as a kids horse, which he would have been great at, and I would have given her all the instructions on keeping him healthy and happy once he was better. People around me were mad at me for buying him, but I didn't care. He needed me. Sometimes, we do everything we can, but all we are meant to be is a soft place to land. Agreed. These sweet and lovely girl has been produced foals - and likely a lot of money - the for monster that “thanked her” by dumping her off at the kill buyer auction. Disgusting. She was thrown away because she’s no longer pushing out big bucks for him or her.

@lizzieb631120 күн бұрын
@@MsSonali1980 Exactly…and the freaking horse racing biz is equally as evil. If they make no money on the track - it’s on a truck to Mexico for them. My friend rescues these off track TB’s and trains them at her facility. She buys from owners at Tampa Bay Downs. She then works with them from anywhere from six to twelve months and sells them typically to those looking for a nice hunt seat or jumping prospect. Many of the OTTBs are calm (which is why they never won races) wind up becoming trail horses. Horses don’t stand much of a chance here when they are “too old” to be useful or too expensive…off to auction they go…disgusting
@MsSonali198019 күн бұрын
@@lizzieb6311 In Germany it's different, here are no auctions. But you can sell the horse for the kg price to a horse slaughter (depending on what meds are documented for vaccination in their papers) and if they think the horse is still fit enough to get sold on they have young people (mostly girls/women) who will invest their time in training them while they get fed back to life. The others get slaughtered (probably also after getting fed to gain weight). If you want to get rid of your (ill) horse, you either sell it (for cheap) to someone (privately or to a trader), or you give it away for free to someone who wants the horse, or you bring it to the slaughter. If it is already on the edge of dying and suffering the vet will tell you and put them down. I think in the US, where horses are still used to work, the auctions are more "practical" to buy and sell than our concept here, where you visit the horse seller usually.

Her body language throughout this entire video radiates stunned surprise tempered by a sweet, docile, and abidingly companionable nature. Yet, despite that passive nature and her poor condition, she gives every indication that she's a survivor. I bet she makes it, and that she gets more spirited once it sinks in that this is her forever home. I'd like to submit the name, "Luna" for her if you think it fits. Thank you for being the one to intercept her at the sale. You are the right person at the right place and time, and she really needs and deserves the better future you will give her moving forward.
