Electronic solder is actually a hollow wire that is filled with flux that when heated by the molten solder, helps clean the surfaces to be soldered together, and which appears to be most of the ‘corrosion’ seen when the board was turned over. This leftover flux is supposed to be inert under normal conditions (and the reason it is not often cleaned off after hand soldering operations), but over time it does absorb moisture and other contaminants, so cleaning it off is still a good idea. When I have several such leads to clean off, I will sometimes soak a small piece of cloth in isopropyl alcohol, lay it over the top of the connections to be cleaned, then use an old toothbrush to scrub the pins through the cloth.

Love your work! In regards to plastic yellowing... I use a gel/paste hydrogen peroxide, used for hair application. I wrap In clear plastic and leave it in the sun. Its just quicker than waiting a week.
