I was really quite pleasantly surprised at what a well done video this was with so many thoughtful insights and details about life with the new iPad Pros - just good, clean, useful information delivered in a simple and lighthearted manner. And even discussing the return/exchange process at the Apple Store..like what?? I mean come on how many other tech KZbinrs are talking about stuff like THAT? Seriously try and list them all, I'll wait... Don't get me wrong I dig those guys too for sure because after all they got to be that big for a reason, but this video from David I think highlights the kind of charm that comes from relating to your audience by devoting a part of the video to essentially digress with "See look I really did buy this expensive thing with my own money and when I second guessed my decision here is the process I went through so you know what to expect." I rarely if ever subscribe to the small time channels when they inevitably get to that point in the video of asking for it, but there's something different and special about what David is doing, I can feel it. You sir deserve all the new subs that are surely coming your way! I look forward to watching your growth and future content for years to come :D - Brian

I’m still on my journey to decide. I ended up picking up both the 13” iPad Pro with nano texture and without. The nano texture pro’s and con’s I’ve seen in the first few days are: Nano texture pros: • Reflections of objects are essentially non existent. You might get shadows but not true reflections. • Feel of the touch sreen is superior. Much smoother travel. • Reading text feels more comfortable almost seems like an e reader at times • Indoors with limited reflections the contrast and colors look almost the same as the standard glass Nano texture cons: • With white backgrounds, the rainbow like effect from light coming through the nano texture glass is noticeable • The glossy bezel is noticeable when there is light to reflect and can be slightly distracting • When there is more light reflecting off the screen it does a great job at diffusing but that’s where the contrast and color’s are most muted. In this lighting condition I prefer the standard reflection so the colors retain • Been more nervous handling the nano texture iPad due to apple’s suggestion to only use the cloth provided I’m leaning towards the standard because contrast and colors are more consistent in lighting conditions, less concerned with scratching the screen, and no rainbow like effect with white backgrounds. I really hope apple continues to improve the matte/nano-texture finish so that the cons are minimized. Will see what I think after more use with each device for the remaining 9 days or so.

Another great update; thanks, David! I used the same logic and went with the 1TB to get the unbinned chip and extra RAM with the hopes that, if nothing else, it will future proof my new iPad for a few years. I read all the warnings of people who did the same with the M1 or M2 iPads, only to be disappointed. However; it feels different this year since they introduced the new chip in this iPad; they must have some plans for it! Plus, I think I’d still be glad I future proofed. I agree with you on iPadOS too. It works pretty well for me. I know a lot of people want full macOS to be announced at WWDC, but I don’t know if that’s really necessary (for me anyway). I think they will make some significant updates to iPadOS to make the experience better and address some of the big complaints (file app, more “pro” apps etc.). Overall, I’m loving my 13” M4 iPad Pro and really enjoying exploring its capabilities.
@DavidLewisTech5 ай бұрын
It won’t surprise you to know, I totally agree with your choices! That’s exactly why I stuck with the full-beans - 1 TB and the 16 GB. Whatever config you choose, it’s expensive, so my thoughts are it’s best to be future-proofed so that whatever Apple throws at us this year or next, this iPad will be ready! Great to hear from you.

Having heard your whole story again and been immersed in it from start to finish, I now believe that you, David, made the right choice in ultimately choosing standard glass - and I'm really happy for you. Standard glass is best for you. It's good that you chose the nanocoated model first: you gained valuable experience and shared it with your audience. In addition, you have figured out exactly which model you need. However, I was once again convinced that I needed the nano-coated version. I am ready to sacrifice the benefits that standard glass provides.

Very well put. Could not say it better myself. I enjoy my nano coated ASD every single day. We, the nano lovers, are a rare breed I guess. I have a nano IPad Pro M4 which replaced my 2018 IPad Pro. I chose the nano display because I was really tired of the reflections competing with the image and the accumulation of fingerprints which made the display look absolutely filthy. The nano display shows no finger prints or reflections. In a darkish room, the nano display shows those vivid blacks, but in lighted situations it doesn’t show reflections, but the extraneous light makes the etchings glow a very little bit which washes out the colors and blacks just a bit as you describe. Given all that, I really like the nano now that I am accustomed to its differences which are subtle compared to the obnoxious reflections and filthy fingerprints I couldn’t get use to. The texture of the nano is also great for the Apple Pencil. I never could get use to the writing-on-glass feel of my 3rd generation iPad Pro.

I had the same thought but unless your sat next to to something that’s superior to the nano textured version in which i done exactly the same as you, took it to my local flagship store asked to be shown the exact same model, same specs so didn’t have it in my head it was the internal specs bad we all know the 1TB models are far superior to the lower 512GB models, i really in all honesty think the nano textured display are seriously superior in someone who will be using it more often, then in the summer zero reflections, I travel to hot countries and it’s a game changer to be sat out working or even reading the news at home or watching a show or something, where as the normal screen to get that sense of clarity you would need to move position and if your lucky then you have more glare from other brands of screen protectors, matte, Paperlike, etc they turn the screen practically white, so then you need increase the screen brightness which then heats the battery and soon the brightness will automatically be dimmed to counter that, at least on the nano you don’t have that issue you could use the brightness at say roughly the benchmark of half and that would stay perfectly clear, no reflection, no sun blindness etc. It’s a choice and perhaps you having never owned an iPad Pro before you may regret after you realise how portable these devices are and I’ve had every Generation model of the iPad Pro and sick of screen protectors having to be replaced due to wear and tear where this nano technology on the new iPads is different from the older nano textured previously used on mac screens, the store manager even wrote he would agree to a full or automatic exchange if he’s wrong and the iPads nano screen begins to scratch easily, he knows my previous iPads and was surprised at how well kept they were so all in sll, i fully trust Apple I’m an apple ecosystem person, and for this reason alone I’m keeping it, regarding people complaining about the cost of the cloth the store gave me credit for 2 more and assured me using any 70% alcohol based solutions that’s on the cloth and wiped down the nano screen won’t damage the cloth neither the screen either, and a general daily wipe with the cloth as I always do regardless is sufficient protection. Apple don’t release high end products which would risk their mass returns and suddenly profit is lost and their left with a lot of products gathering dust, I just believe to many people are frightened due to the cost which was giving me doubts, and being stuck with a £2400 device that in effect is a monumental cock up by Apple again led me to speak directly with Apple, but now I have I’m more confident eventually in 7 months or so people will have changed opinions and these nano textured devices will be more sought after from content creators that’s just my opinion thanks for your honest review I’ll continue to watch your videos buddie and good luck with your channel

I had owned an 11 M2 that i purchased last weekend, but returned in favor of M4 due to the screen. The LCD on 11 M2 can not compared to the quality of tandem OLED. If you ever experienced an OLED device, you can not go back to LCD. The brightness, color accuracy, and motion clarity is unmatched. If you watch a ton of HDR media you're in for a treat. The OLED also help improve the black bar situation you get on iPad device... Since now it will actually be a black bar, not a light gray black bar with an annoying glow due to the blacklight on LCD.

hi Eric - thanks for getting to me. Paperlike have sent me on to try but I haven't used it yet. Did you see the ESR magnetic protector I showed in last week's video? That could be a good solution. There is a link to it in the description of that video.

And not 128 go ram w/60 cores And I think I like the Magic Keyboard better than the mistake laden macbook keyboard. 2 killer machines for about the same price of a M-3 MacBook, new I-pads are so dope. Even thinking about getting the white-silver as a backup have the black cause it’s so dope. Many you-tubers putting these down, I think this is the best product apple has to date. That is fair and honest. I’m thorn as well. I do 3D Modelling and Sculpting for 3D printing. I’m more interested in the power. I have a 2018 pro, and with some tasks, I feel it could be better. I have been pushing the apps to their limits and crashing some of them. To the point one of the CAD program creator reached out to me to keep on making their app crash,because I’m using as it is not intended to be used. lol

@@DavidLewisTech thanks, I don’t lack passion, this opportunity out of a tragedy has fused my passion for story telling, creativity and with right tools to express a lifetime of tabletop gaming and RPG. So many people trash the iPad Pro for reasons its design and existence was not meant for. It’s a powerful tool for creativity and productivity. Sure it has flaws. But if you want to consume media and read your email, there are options that are more reasonable. Would love to see MacOS on it. It would give me more options. I can’t spend a lot of time at a desk, either standing or sitting, but with the iPad I can do it wherever I want and can. That has no price. It has given me a new lease in life. I sadly can’t play the games I used, but I can create for those games. I have 40 years of playing theatre of the mind, now I can share that passion even if I can’t participate in it. This in itself is beautiful because I get relive what brought the most joys in my life and share it and see other people enjoying it. Not many people have that chance to do so.

Having extensively tested the iPad Pro 13 inch versus the iPad Air 13 inch both 2024 models, I can tell you they run almost neck and neck. The only difference I noticed was that the Air gets warm when it charges, doesn’t get as bright outside - but if you don’t work outside, you’ll never notice - And the air has two speakers. Otherwise they were strangely neck and neck in data transfer speeds, video upload speeds, video rendering, and charging time. That said the big fail for me is that I have this “pro” device I paid two grand for that doesn’t even let me adjust the colour balance or have an equalizer! Plus, the contrast is so strong that if you were watching any media that has a lot of shadows - you completely lose all the detail. How the iOS doesn’t even have a basic slider for contrast is beyond me! And in hearing that the so-called improvements in the new iOS 18 basically consist of making pretty things prettier and not even doing basic. Core functionality means it will likely go back. And as a last note, my M2 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch outperformed the 2024 M4 iPad Pro 13 inch in every test. If it weren’t for the screen size I wouldn’t even consider upgrading.

I'm not sure why I watch these iPad videos. Almost feels like military counter intel work. I guess I keep hoping one of these days I'll be able to understand every one else's obsession with Apple products. The iPad is still limited by the operating system. It's always been an oversized iPhone, and until they put a real OS on there besides iPad OS that'll always be the problem. MacBook still doesn't have a touchscreen. I looked at those years ago but decided on the Dell XPS 15" instead. Regardless of my personal preferences this was a very well done video sir. Keep up the good work!

@@DavidLewisTech Yeah. Honestly I was forced to buy an iPad a couple years ago. The nursing program I was in required everyone to either rent one at $90 a semester and give it back at the end, or in my case I just bought my own. I was thinking about upgrading to the latest 2024 iPad Air and started looking into whether or not it's worth it. Most likely I'll end up getting the latest Microsoft Surface Pro 11, which can do everything I need in a smaller form factor for college, and give my 7 year old my iPad. But honestly I feel like children are already indoctrinated into that ecosystem so I might just give it away instead. I'm so anti Apple because of their "walled garden" culture. It started way back whenever the iPod first came out and they refused to allow me to rip my music I already owned from CDs I'd already purchased. I hope the DOJ lawsuit forces Apple to make their products more open to other platforms because I'd highly consider the Apple Watch Ultimate.

Apple are a consumer product company. Pro photographers who are shooting high end analogue or digital medium format won’t be editing on iPads. EIZO monitors don’t make OLED displays but they are world renowned tools for professional image creators. WACOM makes world renowned displays for artists at the higher end. Apple make solid laptops to drive these. iPads are hand held displays designed to make consuming content more agreeable than a phone. The idea of attaching them to stands and keyboards that wobble when you touch them and having dongles hanging off them that you sit away from so that all the text is barely legible and then charging you more one of those than an actual laptop is an extraordinary psych op.

I think if you were using your laptop like an iPad there was no point of you having a laptop. You only really need a laptop. If you need specific computer software, that's impossible to work on mobile. Like video editing with shortcuts. Graphic design apps. 3D sculpting apps that require specific workflows that are janky on the iPad. It's basically just a big phone and the reason for that is because desktop, laptop computers are click-based and tablets are touch-based. It's a completely different system. They have to code it differently. That's why they can't Port a one-to-one direct copy of PC apps to touch screen devices. And it will take a lot of work to be able to do that. They have to completely redesign their OS and then app developers have to completely redesign how they make apps for it
